Phillip Rivers' Attitude (1 Viewer)

I wonder if the Chargers fans will be able to do the same? :goodposting: Hey, but atleast they won 2 playoff games in a row this year!
Unlikely. I won't be crying to NE fans if they lose though.
Whose crying? :lmao:
If the Chargers lose to the pats, maybe their GM should ##### and moan at the NFL competition comittee to get rules changed to help out their offense so things are easier for them and nobody hits them too hard.Of course the Colts would never do that

First line in today's AP article: "Mouthy to a fault, quarterback Phillip Rivers made a pronouncement..." Guess my view of how he is perceived was way off base.
This is a national story that has run in many newspapers and on ESPN. You are representing the popular opinion, which, believe it or not, is sometimes off base.
Wait a minute, to be fair every talking head on ESPN and nearly every national publication took IND to blow out SD last week so that was a popular opinion that wasn't way off... well, maybe that's a bad example.

How many years, how many decades will it take for some idiots to realize that no rules were changed in that situation.Geez, some people are so dense and so incredibly stupid.

True. No rules were changed. Do you deny that Polian, in an effort to improve his teams chances of winning, based on the style of offense they ran, spearheaded the efforts to have the illegal contact past 5 yards called more closely? While you're technically correct that no rules were changed, the net effect of the lobbying in the competition committee was the rule was called differently on the field, essentially changing how the DBs around the league had to play. It had all the effect of a new rule, although as you correctly point out, it was a "re-emphasis" on the current rule as written.

no rule was changed but the way it was called/enforced was changed.there is no way to refute that.it is documented that Polian campaigned for a change in the officiating philosophy.it is documented that passing statistics rose dramatically afterwards.it's like calling balls and strikes in baseball. technically, no rule has changed but deciding to tighten or loosen the calls has a huge impact on the game.

Jeez, why does a guy get bashed for doing what is in the best interest of his team? I'd think you'd be pissed if your man didn't do the same for your team? And, what good is the rule if you aren't going to enforce it?Might as well let people chop block, video tape opposing coaches from the sidelines, etc.

Because, on the competition committee, he shouldn't be representing his team's best interests, but the leagues. If you can't see past what benefits your team, then you don't belong on league policy committees. As for enforcing the rule, thats fine. But I still have a problem with any leadership that uses a position of power to better their own situation, rather than looking out for the greater good.

Is it a stipulation of being on the Competition Committee, that you must be blind to the rulebook, your team and the league's best interest? Please come down off of the soapbox.

Every member of that committee has their respective team's best interest in the back of their minds.

To think otherwise is incorrect IMO.

I give credit where credit is due. I posted in this thread earlier what a POS I think Rivers is (Bronco fan, yes I am), but he showed a great heart today and did his best.

I don't like the guy at all, but hats off to the effort today. He very easily could have phoned it in, but he showed a great heart. :goodposting:
