Philly DEs (1 Viewer)

Anybody have any insights on how the Philly DEs will shake out for next year?

I understand that it appears that Kearse and Howard will likely be gone.

It seems that Cole did not have that much of a dropoff late in the year, if any, ...contrary to what a lot of folks were saying.

Is this because he's bulked up, or just playing more time in the rotation?

Is Cole a bonafide top-10 DL now?

Also, who figures to step up on the other side, J.Thomas or V.Abiamiri?

...Insights on Abiamiri appreciated!

I had a post about this in another thread somewhere.Howard and Kearse are probably gone, if not, they will continue to be non-factors. Howard is at least versatile as he can move inside on passing downs and play DT. Kearse is just done.

I liked the way Cole played and he did hold up through the season but he will never be a run-stuffer and needs a rotation. he may be a top 10 guy but I wouldn't draft him as one. Some other owners may though.

Thomas impressed me but I don't know what to think since its like his 7th season and he finally emerged.

I do see Abiamiri stepping into the rotation as the #3 DE and being used a lot in run downs. They have pretty high hopes for him and I had posted a link about him from the Eagles homepage a while back.

All that said, they will draft another DE early this year or potentially look for help in FA. Probably not a primo Justin Smith type but some one to fill in the rotation with Vic, Thomas and Cole.

This thread but I can't find the one with the link

Cole's gotta be seeing the field quite a bit on run downs. He's averaged 46/20 tackles/assists over the past 2 years. Are the the majority of these coming from the backside, or are they just running at him? From those #'s (if his part in the rotation doesn't diminish), he definitely appears to be DL1/top 10.

good info, but it seems to me that he was no slouch when it came to run stuffing. He led all NFC defensive lineman in tackles.

They did run at him and maybe a lot of those numbers were racked up as half tackles. I just don't remember him in the backfield blowing up RBs multiple times a game. Probably some backside pursuit and down-field tackles as well.Maybe Pasquino has some insight.

Not really - I don't recall anything in particular for him on running plays or him being run at.He had 4 games of 4+ tackles, including a 3-sack game vs. Detroit. Wks 7 and 8 were big games (7 solos each), but both Chicago and Minn didn't run the ball 30 times so it wasn't that... if anything, the weak passers (Griese, Bollinger/Holcomb) just gave the defense less passing attacks to worry about.

I personally don't remember anything spectacular about his performances in those games, but I did notice him less in the 2nd half of the year.

I'm also curious to see who's opposite Cole. Personally, I have Cole at #3/4 in dynasty right now behind only Allen and Umenyiora, equal to Mario Williams.
