Philly running game 2007 (1 Viewer)

With both Mahe and Buckhalter UFA (although both could easily make it back to PHI at vet min) Philly only has Westbrook and Moats under contract at the start of FA.

Buckhalter was actually not bad this year with about 600 yards on 100 touches, more importantly his knee held up. I'd be very surprised to see him be offered a starter role, but a short yardage/COP back could be in the cards - only with Andy Reid's patience with him over the last many years it would seem callous of him to sign elsewhere without a significant salary increase.

Moats seem a bit like the odd man out here (and has been since Westbrook was resigned). He was largely ineffective when given the ball (two games with 7 and 11 carries, both for 22 yards) so he would not seem to have a lot of value to other teams.

IIRC Mahe has been active on special teams.

What does the :homer: crowd foresee for 2007?

I would expect much of the same from a fantasy perspective. I think Westbrook has shown to be a capable overall runner including between the tackles adn will get 70%+ of the touches. I expect they will re-sign Buckhalter to fill the role he has played this year. Moats just hasn't gotten enough time to evaluate, but he is under contract so he will be back. Mahe seems like he will be the odd man out in 2007. His only realy value has been as a kick return specialist and while I believe he has a pretty decent YPA on returns, he just does not seem to be explosive enough. Jeremy Bloom will likely get a good look to take over those duties when healthy in 2007.

Thats my take on it anyway.

The Eagles are VERY down on Moats right now. From what I hear he's constantly missing blocks, running incorrect routes on passing plays and can't seem to hold onto the ball in practice. He's also been inactive for many games this season.

I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if they cut him if he has a bad camp this coming season....

Philly likes having a bigger back to help out Westbrook. They almost signed Stephen Davis earlier in the year. I wouldn't be surprised if they drafted a running back or traded for on in the offseason. Whatever happens, though, Westbrook is still the man there and will get most of the carries. The team likes Buckhaulter, but they know that he has a knack for getting hurt. In fact, he just came out of last weeks game with a knee sprain. Also, I get the impression that the team isn't that high on Moats. I don't know if it's his size or his lack of blocking ability, but I don't see him rising to the #2 spot.

Regarding, Mahe, I wish they'd get rid of him. I realize they probably keep him around because he knows the offense, but he has NO burst at all and I hate it when they have to risk injury to Westbrook to return punts/kickoffs. I'd like to see them get a better kick returner via the draft or trade/free agents.

T.J. Duckett may be the right fit for the Eagles. A big, bruising back that can complement Westbrook. The Eagles went after Stephen Davis last year, maybe they will try to sign Duckett this offseason.

Mahe is Reid's "guy you need on a team" who does just about everything more or less okay. Problem is that he's not better than okay at anything - and he's a RB, not a LB or DB where he's not handling the ball so much.

I'm hoping he gets upgraded this offseason, but he's going to be the leading candidate for the last RB spot going into every camp. He has no chance of advancing on the depth chart barring injuries.
