Phrases/terms that need to be retired immediately (1 Viewer)

I'm also tired of the unnecessary "the" in news pieces and other similar writings to describe people by their occupation. Example: "in those days, one of her close friends was the actor Ron Jeremy"It's just "actor Ron Jeremy," FFS. Just cut this out, New York Times and others.

"Supersized". Unless you are McDonalds, stop it.
Yes.We have a VP who uses this. "We're going to take that idea and supersize it, which will bring in tons of revenue"He also likes "judo move". So he's doing a lot of judo moves to supersize deals.
Also, I feel like this should have completely stopped 3-5 years ago. In one day, I read a CNN headline describing a tv show being longer as "supersized" and had a conversation with the coach of a few students of mine. He said, "We need to find a way supersize their grades...I see Joe did good on this assignment, but it was only worth 10 points. Can we supersize that one so it helps his grade more?"

Used in those contexts, they seem pretty dumb. I think it can have niche uses that are acceptable besides the McDonalds one.

"honey boo boo child" used to get a laugh. Seeing this way too much. Every TV comedian has used it in a routine, Jodie Foster used it at the Golden Globes last night. When you are standing up on stage and getting no reaction from the audience, all you have to do is make some reference to honey boo boo and it's an instant cheap laugh.Time to stop.

Time to take her show off the air.

This may have been mentioned already, but I'm starting to think adding "guys" to the end of everything is a mistake.
SacramentoBobFanGuys are a little dismayed by this post...
On the other hand, "FlapJacksGuys" would be a decent name for a breakfast diner franchise.
Right, I'm not saying get rid of it entirely. It's just gotten way overused.
I'll be sure and pass that along to Joe, guy.

Using the word "one" before a person's name. Boomer Esiason used to do this a lot on his radio show (probably still does, but I no longer listen). As in, "I went out to Jets camp and met with one Tim Tebow."

I'm really tiring of reading about company ecosystems, and I'm pretty sure it's only going to get worse. "Apple's ecosystem is growing stronger," and "I want to focus specifically on the entertainment ecosystems of Apple, Google and Microsoft". :wall:

"Dish"As in: "So-and-so will be appearing on the show today to promote her new movie and to dish about what really happened during production"Or: "He really dishes in his new book about his teammates and how he really feels about them"And that "Dish Nation" show is awful anyway.

:goodposting:Also, the ubiquitous "talks," as in "Kristen Stewart talks Twlilight XVII" in headlines/blurbs. I'm also tired of sideline reporters and other interviewers ordering celebs to "talk about" something, as in, "talk about when you were an accessory to murder in Atlanta." Please ask, don't issue commands.

Thoughts on "walled garden"?
Encountered them way too often in college. Does not like.

Has putting "The" as an article in front of XYZ State University been mentioned yet? If not, please stop it. It's not impressing anyone.

Pretty sure this is just limited (at least officially) to Ohio State, but, yes. It annoys.
Been mentioned a couple of times. Also "The U" in general is annoying.
