Phrases/terms that need to be retired immediately (4 Viewers)

Talking of words that get made up though, "ginormous" has always bugged me. It sounds like a word a teenage girl made up to describe her crush on Justin Beiber, and I don't think I heard it used until about 5-10 years ago. But no, it goes back to the late 1940's. I don't care, I still hate it.
I always thought it was a 21st century word too.

It's hard to believe in this day and age we still use words like "Jew" and "Puerto Rican". Certainly we could come up with more politically correct words to describe these races.

If I am ill or not well then it's perfectly ok for me to say "I'm feeling poorly".
Sure. And if I'm driving a tractor, it's perfectly okay for me to say that I'm not driving at tractor.

If we're not sticklers for accuracy, we can say whatever we want. :)

Can we stop calling stuff the something-pocalypse? Smogpocalypse. Fogpocalypse. Snowpocalypse.

Aaaarrrrggghhhh!
:goodposting: and it's probably been mentioned a few times in here but using -gate as a suffix for problematic issues.
Makes me wonder if there are people out there that think Watergate was actually a scandal involving water.

It really is pretty odd...it's like if you use the suffix "bine" to describe school shootings because of Columbine.

Uh, it's Columbinegate...

"PHABLET"

This ####### word is so annoying... Great advertising Samsung - It isn't a phone or a tablet, it's a phablet...

Like #### off, it is one or the other, it isn't both!

Using letters and numbers in place of words, especially in song titles. Spell out the word "you", genius. Using "U" doesn't give you street cred or make you look edgy. And if you don't believe me, keep in mind that one of the biggest hits to use that convention was the entirely lame "Nothing Compares 2 U". There are few things less edgy or cool than that song.

Don't mind it as much in songs as I do in company emails.

Just that song. I don't know enough about her entire body of work to diss her beyond that. I do remember watching her on SNL when she tore up the picture of the Pope and I thought she was as loony as a toon, but that was what, 20 years ago? <shrug>

It's Prince's song and title

Ohhh, that's RIGHT!

The song is still lame, though. And the title is silly. That's all I'm sayin'.

I can't believe a ####### AP article lead with that sentence. I know what the writer was going for, but that's just awful. Have we no standards in professional writing?

don't think you are going to win this one, GB. designers LOVE that word.
This word is so dumb - "My phone just died, can I borrow your phablet for a second?"
I agree, and I don't think it will fall into mainstream, because it's so stupid. But as an industry term, I think it's here to stay.

"Libtard" - not because I have a problem with people saying "#######" or variations of it, and not because I have a problem with people insulting liberals... but just because it's a really stupid ####### word.

To be fair to the other side, I also think "repuglicans", or "rethuglicans", is ridiculous, too.

If you can't insult someone without using a silly sounding made-up word, you're not trying hard enough. (Or, you know, just stop insulting people and attack their stance on the issues instead. That would be nice.)

[edited to add - that's funny, I didn't know the board would # out the word that "libtard" is based off of. Interesting.]

I'll go with, "Accountable."

I just saw some evil hag that still has a job use it on TV. Actually, now that I think about it, I've heard a variety of evil hags use that word the last few years.

Must be a gender thing or something
