Phrases/terms that need to be retired immediately (5 Viewers)

"Spend" as a noun, instead of "expenditure," "outlay," or "amount spent on", using the word "cost" in a similar phrase meaning the same thing instead, etc. Aaaaaagh

I would have to think this has been mentioned but "reno" when someone is fixing up a house. Just heard woman in my office use it & I wanted to smack her.

using the term "meta"

what the heck does that even mean?
It actually has a meaning:

meta3
[met-uh] Spell Syllables

2. pertaining to or noting an abstract, high-level analysis or commentary, especially one that consciously references something of its own type.
noun3. a consciously and playfully self-referential story, conversation, etc.: That dialogue was an example of meta at its best.
4. an abstract, high-level analysis or commentary: writing a meta to explain the character’s motivation.
verb (used without object)5. to analyze or comment on something in a meta way: I spend more time metaing about the show than actually watching it."

Yeah especially #5. Metaing, really? Who have we put in charge of the language now? It used to be smart people.

...."and I approve this message"
Can't they for once just end their ads with "...and #### that other guy."
I've said before that if I was a candidate, I'd have a commercial that went like this.

(voice-over guy) "Sheik's opponent says that he likes to burn the bible. He's also been known to molest kids and murder neighbor's pets. And he's cheated on his wife with hundreds of gay men in truck stop bathrooms. No way he's the right guy for the position."

Then I'd pop on the screen with a look of sadness and I'd say, "I'm TheIronSheik, and I do NOT approve of this message. Not at all. :ShakesHead: "

"THIS C.J. Moseley . . . ."

"THIS Tamba Hali . . . . "

"THIS Martavis Bryant . . . ."

Also, "Great play by Demeco Ryans, the ex-Houston Texan."

Basically, anything Gruden says. Hate hate hate.

Story "arc". Invented by TV geeks, I suppose. What's wrong with it being a storyline? Now it has to have a a slight curve to it? Quit it, you're not impressing anyone.

like pizza, stories and character development don't come in straight lines.

since you put it like that, ok. brb.
To me, it sounds like something a 14 year old boy says. I guess if you're 14, it's a cool term. If you're over 14, it sounds hella-dumb. Totes hella-dumb.
ok I'm back. feeling tired, but refreshed. could use a smoke.
That took way too much time. Did you light candles and get all romantic about it or was there just an extra-long crying session afterwards?

:coffee: an arc is still, technically, a line.

Feel free to convince yourself we needed a snarky, better-than-you way of talking about this sorta thing.

crying on the inside. yes.
