Picking up players if you're out of the playoffs (1 Viewer)

In a redraft league, freeze rosters once teams are eliminated after the regular season. You can't freeze them before playoffs begin because they might be making moves to be competitive even though they are eliminated.

In dynasty, NEVER freeze waivers if you use waivers or freeze FAAB unless a team is out of FAAB.

I think everyone's various league configurations are confusing an otherwise simple question.

If your season is over (by whatever definition of "over" applies to your league), you stop playing.
exactly. And DH has explained more clearly now, that this guys season is OVER. He has no consolation, no prize, no total points, literally isn't even matched up next to anyone on the website that he can make a side bet with. He picked him up for NO reason.

I'd say this is collusion and you should ask him why he picked him up. If his answer is to help his brother, you can reverse it or kick him out. If his answer is.... well... I don't even know what his answer could be that would make this not cheating.
He could answer "it's a keeper league and you never know what Hightower's situation will be next August...worth a shot." I don't know if that league's keeper rules allow them to keep players picked up this late.

Correct, he could. And if he does then he has a point and it's okay. But I have a feeling that this brother isn't the most experienced fantasy player (he would know how shady it was if so), and would panic or admit he was trying to block him. I'd get him on the phone, ask him why he did it. If he says cause he thinks me may keep hightower next year, then he gets a pass. If he says it was to help his brother, then he's gone from the league.

Simple -

Dynasty / Keeper Leagues, pick up guys as you see fit, anytime.

Redraft - When your season is over, you walk away.
Do intentions not matter though? What if it's a keep 1 league, and he has Julio, Gronk, Beckham, Gurley on his team. If that's the case, then the hightower pickup was clearly done JUST to help his brothers' team out. I think the intent needs to at least be questioned.

I wasn't going to, but I ran into the guy in question while picking my daughter up at school (he was picking up his brother's son) so I jokingly asked why he picked up Hightower. He gave the BS answer of keeping his options open. When I brought up the fact he had Gurley and ODB on his team and we only kept one he stammered something or other and walked away.

One player in our league that has Stewart pickup up Fozzy, the other that had Rawls got Brown. Both are in the consolation, I see no problem with those moves. Redraft league with a bit a money on the line for the toilet bowl. I dont see why the 4 teams left should have exclusive rights to those players. If your 2-12 or whatever you should clearly walk away in a redraft.

In my Dynasty and Keeper leagues additionas are allowed by all teams.

in my Reg season if your out of the playoffs, your team gets locked.

Let people run their team how they want to. If they are out of it, but still want to make moves, let them. Not your job to police other teams

I doubt this guy picked up Hightower to keep his options open, but that answer satisfies the minimum requirement for keeper league purposes, imo. Sucks for you. If your opponent is your friend you might mention it to him and see what he thinks. I don't think you're going to get Hightower but, at least, he might be able to straighten out the brother so there are no such shenanigans in the future.
