Pickup Cam Newton? (1 Viewer)

I have a high waiver position, would you pickup Newton for trade bait? I already have Matt Ryan and Joe Flaco (can only start one QB). I would have to give up Thomas Jones to get Newton. Was his performance a sign of more things to come or just a lucky start against a bad defense?

No kidding. Let's wait until when he plays a tad bit better defense, the Packers & Bears. By the time he sees the Bears, there will be a little bit of game film on the guy.

If you have hair-trigger owners who will jump on a guy like Cam based on a game like this (and it's a league where active trades happen) he certainly may be worth a pick up for that purpose. I once got Gerald Riggs (on his way to a 10 TD season) for the rights to Don Beebe the week after Beebe got 4 TDs. This was like 100 years ago.

I wouldn't necessarily dismiss him as speculative add anyhow. I mean, I got Vick on the wire last year...TWICE (I dropped him after his first injury) so ya never know.

After Newton's unprecedented performance today.......how could you NOT grab him if he's available? Who cares if you've already got a starting QB? If anything, grab him just to prevent your opponent from getting him.

Hahahahah. Why would you pick-up a rookie QB? I watched the game and I would NOT pick him up (redraft league). I watched him miss receiver after receiver at the end to lose the game. As others have said, let's see what happens next week vs. Green Bay, and then wk4 vs. Chicago. Steve Smith is not going stand wide open for 80 yard TDs due to blown coverage versus either of those teams.

He hit 65% of his passes today. Bad D or not. I was at the game and watched him standing tall in the pocket and looking DBs off. This kid's the real deal.Sure he's going to take some lumps this year, but the ceiling is right up there with anyone else..even for this year alone.
