Pierre Thomas #2 in NO? (1 Viewer)

Why did they bring Deuce back if they had no intention of playing him? The guy gutted his way back from several serious injuries. Why does he fly all the way out to DEN, dress, and then stand with his helmet in his hand? If he's ready to go, let him play. Or let him play somewhere else.

Back to Pierre: I've watched all three NO games this year. He looks like he can make plays, but I'm not sure goal line back is his best skill-set.
Just on national radio with Chris Myers...

Saints VP of Operationsand General Manager Mickey Loomis was asked about Deuce McCallister.

He stated... that Duece currently is not the same runner he was before the knee injury.

He knee is healthy.

They will be very cautious with him.

This week he is 50/50 to play.

He could play if needed.

He inferred that maybe later in the year he could be leaned on.

On peculiar note - He never seemed to mention or imply he expects him to be what he once was before the injury. I was expecting to hear him state "its just a matter of time" or something along the lines of "he'll get back to form". But he didnt. He seemed candid in the interview.

Good post BigSteel. This goes back to my post earlier - I think many Saints fans clamoring for Deuce are living in the past. The guy has had several major knee injuries the past couple of years and it may be unrealistic to think he's the Deuce of old. Instead, he may be an old Deuce who is a shell of what he once was. And it's very possible that's how Payton views him right now. That definitely fits with Deuce's lack of action thus far. Perhaps the team is hoping that at some point later in the season they'll be able to count on him more but right now he's way too far behind Thomas to take any meaningful snaps from him.

That definitely fits with the numerous reports we've been given, including the one just posted from BigSteel, and the way the season has unfolded so far.

50/50 to play as in Dress or get significant carries?
That post was from two weeks ago so keep that in mind. It's also been speculated in the New Orleans media that if Stecker is able to play tomorrow then Deuce will be inactive since he (unlike Thomas and Stecker) doesn't contribute on special teams.

He may have been there for an emergency, but Deuce dressed for DEN, but never put on his helmet, and had a sour look on his face the entire four quarters.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Saints don't want to get into a shoot-out like they did in Denver, and this could be RB Deuce McAllister's coming-out party. The plan is to get him 10-15 carries and see if he can soften the San Francisco defensive line. It might be tough running the ball with rookie LG Carl Nicks starting for the suspended Jamar Nesbit and Billy Miller starting at tight end. Saints CB Mike McKenzie is supposed to play ahead of Randall Gay while the defense also gets SLB Scott Fugita back. San Francisco RT Barry Sims starts again for Jonas Jennings. Tarrell Brown will also play some nickel with Shawntae Spencer out.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8614950...could-be-on-tapI don't know what this guy's credential's are, but 10-15? So he is basically going to get more carries than Bush. I guess it's cause for concern nonetheless.

Czarnecki's credentials are awful. He gets "inside" info wrong all the time. But he may be on the mark here. This is some info from the Biloxi Sun Herald:

A running game finally emerges. Saints coach Sean Payton has finally given Deuce McAllister significant snaps during practice this week and appears to be No. 2 on the depth chart going into this week's game behind Reggie Bush. The Saints have lacked balance and McAllister's return could make the 49ers defense honest in defending both the run and the pass.

I can't wait to see if the level of disillusion of Deuce being this huge threat will stop in it's tracks. Or if I'm wrong.

Either way, at this point I want to find out one way or another. And the funny thing is we won't really know if Pierre wouldn't have performed equal to or better than Deuce, in the same role (last time he got 10 touches was week 1 and he averaged 5+ per touch).

And if you listened to me about Deuce and what his comeback meant to PT

You are welcome

Saints would be 3-0 if they had brought him back sooner

And you disagree? or just like posting smiles.Washington game-m 1 yard needed to sustain the game winning drive, PT fails on 4th and 1Denver game- one yard needed at the goal line- PT fails on 3 attemptsDenver game -one yard needed to sustain Saints drive that would give them the go ahead, PT fails just like the week beforeDeuce has not had a carry for a loss to my Knowledge so I rest my case.

You were right about Deuce playing this week but honestly :lmao: He is doing no better than PT when he got a similar amount of touches in week 1. In fact, he's doing worse. This chapter isn't closed yet.

You are watching the game right? Deuce hasnt had a bad carry except one where he was met at the line but he still managed to get a yard by lunging forward. PT would have lost at least a yard in that situation. Perhaps FF points wise, neither PT or Deuce are a play right now. Keep in mind this is Deuce's first game back and his role will increase. I dont think it hurts Reggie Bush's , probably helps because Bush can concentrate on what he does best now and leave the short power stuff to Deuce. PT's value is gone unless you are in deep leagues or get points for kick returns.Sell!

He also ran one for 0 yards, and no short yardage redzone situation where he has come through. Conclusion: the jury is still out. It goes without saying if Deuce plays, PT's value gets hurt. That's like saying if LT plays, Sproles value takes a hit.

O.K. if you think soNice L.T. Sproles comparison by the way

I have Thomas and think that before the season is over he will probably be sharing with Bush again because I am skeptical that Deuce can make it through a full season at this point without another injury.

But today Deuce clearly laid claim to being the primary ball carrier. He has good instincts and fights for the extra yards. He didn't bust a big one so hard to know if he has his speed back, but he definitely ran aggressively and hard today.
