Pittsburgh LB's? (1 Viewer)

I know Tomlin is more of a 4-3 guy but if the team is already rostered for the 3-4 who will be the four starters?

Is this what they're looking like:

OLB: Clark Haggans

ILB: Larry Foote

ILB: James Farrior

OLB: James Harrison

What will it look like if they go to a 4-3?

Thanks

You are correct! I think there is a decent chance they will take an OLB in the first couple rounds of the draft to replace Harrison or Haggans. Lots of talk flying around that the team wants to get rid of Haggans. In a 4-3 Foote would be the odd man out.

Really? I'd have thought Foote would be a better WLB than Harrison.

This article suggests that in a 4-3 look, Farrior could move to the outside with Harrison and Foote would play MLB. Kind if interesting since fantasy values of these players will be severely impacted with a move like this. Farrior (hurt) & Foote (improved). Here is the quote,

The middle linebacker could be Larry Foote with James Farrior moving outside along with James Harrison.

Tomlin commented in an interview that they would be sticking with the 3-4 primarily this year.

Yesterday, for instance, he publicly committed for the first time to staying with a 3-4 as his base defense next season.

"I know what it does to offenses, I really do," Tomlin said. "It's all about the personnel you have. We have the best 3-4 people in the world, I think. That's what we're going to do."

The more Tomlin looked at the way the Steelers played the 3-4, the more it convinced him to stick with it under coordinator **** LeBeau rather than try to convert to a 4-3 Tampa 2, the type he coached with the Buccaneers and the Minnesota Vikings.

"To me, I was excited because I came into this league, a mecca, if you will, for the 4-3 defense in the Tampa 2, working with Tony Dungy and Monte Kiffin," Tomlin said. "Now, I'm working every day with what I believe to be the mecca for a 3-4. If you look at my growth development as a coach, man, it doesn't get any better than that. To be around Monte Kiffin and **** LeBeau, I think you guys will agree with that. It doesn't get any better than that."

The Steeler fan in me loves this quote - it tells me that Tomlin is smart enough to trust the people he respects and he wont try to fit round pegs in square holes because that's all he knows - which often sets franchises back years. If the Steelers D was in disarray, it would be appropriate for him to tear it down and rebuild it in his image. Since he has as he put it "the best 3-4 people in the world", theres no reason to switch. He can certainly impart some concepts and enhance the 3-4 with what he knows, but Im thrilled to hear his healthy attitude about it, and it opens the possibility for some kind of hybrid that harnesses thestrengths of both.

Great post Sig

Do you see James Harrison as a player that can be a solid starter in the NFL?

I'd really like your thoughts on Harrison

Thanks

Yes. Ive been high on Harrison for the last two years and really telling anyone who would listen that he's going to be as good as Porter/Haggans in that D (assuming he can stay healthy).

I have been following Harrison's career since his days at Kent State.

Actually have met him a few times and have 3 autographed pictures in my pizza shop in Kent. I am hoping he gets the starting gig and runs with it. Very nice guy!
