Player Spotlight: Ben Troupe (1 Viewer)

Zoo York
2006 Player Spotlight Series

Over the course of the offseason, we will be evaluating a multitude of players at every fantasy position. One such way we go about that is through the Player Spotlight series. Think of the Spotlights as a permanent record on some of the more intriguing players for the upcoming season. Each Spotlight will be featured in an article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Ben Troupe, TE, Tennessee Titans

Player Page Link: Ben Troupe Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide sustainable value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsBest of Luck and ENJOY!

149 TE receptions last year in Norm Chow's offense. That's remarkable.

A lot of unknowns in this situation next year. Volek, McNair, Young. Right now it looks like Volek will most likely start the season. I think overall the TE receptions will dip a little, but Troupe will see a bigger % of them. He's the most talented of the three, and he's just going to get better.

60/573/5

Both Troupe and Kinney will feature in the passing game in TEN

Neither Troupe and Kinney will match last years numbers.

The new TE coach is emphasising blocking for the run and the OC is talking about more receptions to the WRs (and yes, it is June).

IMO 47/485/3

As long as Kinney is there Troupe will be only OK, in fantasy terms at least. Get him on the team as the undisputed #1 TE and then you really have something.

60/590/5

Why is everyone projecting under 10.0 ypc?

Troupe is one of the fastest and most athletic TEs in the league. He played injured all of last year and still approached 10.0 ypc.

50/600/6

As a Titans fan, I was really high on the kid when we drafted him, so far, I haven't been as thrilled with the results. Hopefully he changes that this year, but given the offensive situation, I don't see a major statistical breakout.

48 receptions 550 yards 4 tds.

The amount of continued Troupe hate on this board is simply ridiculous. I won't even bother to enter the discussion with you haters, but I"ll give my projections:

105 receptions, 1400 yards, 15 TDs.

You're projecting him to miss half the year?

59/600/5completely agree.

With as high as everyone has been on him in this thread, his ADP is significantly lower than many other TEs. Interesting.

I swear I read somewhere last week that Chow intends to rely less on the TE position this year.

A healthier Bennett and Givens addition coupled with one of the 20 rooks from 05 should limit the Kinney/Troupe combo to average numbers in 06.I like Troupe to far outweigh Kinney's production in 06.

Posts like this make me think that when the Spotlight is published with average board projections, the top and bottom score should be thrown out...

Seriously:

65 / 711 / 9
 Kinney disagrees with you. I'd be pleased to draft Kinney, whose numbers will be very similar to Troupe, and who I can draft considerably later than Troupe.

I don't care if Kinney disagrees. Troupe, 2005:

11 games started (I see him as the full time starter this year, but with Kinney being involved): 55 receptions, 530 yards, 4 TDs. Is it that hard to see an extra 10 receptions, and 181 yards? Keeping in mind that Troupe wasn't 100% at the start of last season? The 9 TDs is probably high.

Kinney disappeared when Volek started the last couple of weeks though...
What?Volek played in weeks 16 and 17, did not start.

His only start was in october, against Arizona. FWIW, Kinney and Calico were the leading receivers that game.

Don't be surprised if Kinney is traded before the season starts. The Titans have 3 TEs that they love

Troupe 47 rec 500 yds 7 tds

Are you sick in the head?

The 2005 Titans we're second only to the 1983 Chargers in terms of receptions by the TE's in a single season..

I think that speaks volumes about where Troupe is headed in 2006 and beyond..

if he managed 55 receptions after last years slow start, the sky is the limit with this kid.

LOL, like I said, theres no reason for me to enter a conversation with people who are blinded by hate, so I'm going to stay out of this one. Bump this after the season though....you'll see.

Bump! Big change today with McNair being traded to Baltimore. Does that change anyone's projections? It sure does change mine. My new projections for Troupe:

55 catches, 625 yards, 4 TDs

It's hard to say until we know who the QB is going to be.Volek?

Collins?

Young?

The more Volek starts, the worse off Troupe is.If Volek starts 16 games, I see Troupe with 60 catches, 480 yards, and 3 TDs.

with your hatred of Volek I'm surprised you didn't put 0 catches, 0 yards and 0 TDs for your projections if Billy is at the helm.

Fluff piece.

In deciding between Troupe and Watson for my TE this year, I was doing a lot of research and was leaning heavily towards Troupe. I saw the amount of targets, catches, system, and size as good enough reasons to take Troupe over Watson.....until I saw his YPC. 9.8 yards per catch is not indicative of the gamebreaking possible top 5 tight end I envisioned. It pales in comparison to almost every other top or potential top tight end's ypc. Was it because of an injury? Or certain routes in the system? And will it change this year?

I think that as Troupe proves he can stay healthy and play all season, he will become the unchallenged #1 TE in Tenn. I think that starts this year.

67/850/8

Troupe is severely undervalued in all formats. And I mean severely. And that was before Kinney underwent knee surgery.

He's the one receiver that shouldn't downgrade much when the transition from Volek to Young occurs.
