Player Spotlight: Kellen Winslow Jr. (1 Viewer)

Zoo York
2008 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. Last year, we published more than 140 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters. This year will be no different.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Kellen Winslow Jr., TE, Cleveland Browns

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

KW II is one of the primary weapons on a very good Cleveland passing attack. Despite his injury history, this is not about his longterm dynasty prospects but more about what he will do in 2008. The Browns have built a quality OL and even with the tougher schedule they are the better team a majority of the time. I look for KW II to maybe take a small dip in his numbers but he should still draw a lot of attention from Derek Anderson or whoever is the QB in Cleveland.

72/800/7 TD

I think Winslow has obviously carved out a solid spot as the #3 TE behind Gates and Witten. I do expect to see his YPC fall this season. Stallworth and Edwards will both stretch the field and there should be a good chunk of work for Winslow in the 8-12yard window.

Worries about redzone production scare me. Cleveland has bigger WR in edwards outside and a big pounding RB in Lewis. Leaving Kellen as the #3 redzone option.

Lets hope Derek Anderson's seasons wasn't a fluke either...

88 rec

1015 yds

6TD

Two consecutive seasons now, Winslow has gotten 80+ receptions and 800+ yards, not alot of tight ends are going to do that for you. The Cleveland passing game was one of the betters ones in the league last year, and if Anderson improves, then so will Winslow. Defenses have alot to worry about in Cleveland. Braylon Edwards is an elite pass catcher, Jamal Lewis was one of the best in the league last season at RB, and they brought in Donte Stallworth. All of that combined means Winslow gets open alot.

83 Receptions

1063 Yards

7 TDs

That's the key.Odds are he will "only" get 900ish yds tops which I'm sure Winslow owners will get over if he also has solid TD and catch (for PPR) numbers, which it seems likely he should.

I've noticed that the general consensus is in here is that KW will only get 5-6 TD's.

My question is where are all Clevelands' TD's going to go?

braylon - 10 (this is liberal for me, i have BE only getting 9 this year in my rankings)

stallworth - 4

lewis - 1

KW- 5

other-2

That is 22 passing Td's this year by Cleveland QB's. Is that the general consensus?

Any thoughts? I was thinking about 8 TD for KW this year.

Team 25-27Brayon 9-11Others 6-8That leaves 6-12 available. Others includes Stallworth. Its conceivable that he eats into Winslow's numbers, but I wasn't impressed watching Stallworth last year in NE, so I'll say that the floor on Winslow is 7 TDs.
