Player Spotlight: Trent Edwards (1 Viewer)

2009 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. Last year, we published more than 120 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters. This year will be no different.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Trent Edwards, QB, Buffalo Bills

Player Page Link: Trent Edwards Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Attempts, Completions, Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

I'm not sure where he's being projected at this point, but I may target him as a high upside backup if I get one of the top 4-5 QB's. If I don't get an elite guy and I'm playing match-ups every week I don't think I'd trust him as one of my two.

Edwards isn't horrible, contrary to what some people think. The addition of TO, plus the absence of Lynch for the first few games means the passing numbers should be decent. Put me down as cautiously optimistic:

3500 yards, 21 TDs, 15 INTs

People are going to see what kind of impact T.O. has on a Q.B.'s numbers this year, both in Buffalo and Dallas. Edwards is a lock for 20+ TDs this year, and will certainly outproduce his draft position.

Any new thoughts after tonight's airing of the no-huddle? Even if this team isn't good Edwards will probably put up startable fantasy numbers. I still don't see him getting drafted as a starter (Top 12) though.

Feeling a little better about him and Hass as my QBs, but I would like to see some consistency as this is week one. Cant get nuts yet.

I think he is pretty smart, above average arm, good feet, just needs to get rid of the ball a bit quicker some times, but that can be improved over time. Not a world beater and could use a bigger contribution from TO.

I was planning on dumping him as my bench QB and picking up Leinart for a week 9 bye (assumming leinart would be in by then) but after tonight, not sure.

That's assuming a lot there. At the minimum, wait until Leinart is playing....if that happens?

Trent Edwards had a good game. I think the no huddle did help but I'm not sure it's going to be enough all season. Trent has a great pair of WRs and if his line can keep him standing he will post decent numbers. I think it will be very difficult to determine when to start him. Unless he's playing the Rams or Lions.

Starting him in place of an injured McNabb and Garrard (FBG/Chase Stuart love).

Considering playing him ahead of Warner to spread out my Cardinals risk since I have Larry Fitz and the Cards suck when coming east for a 1 PM game but that is just over thinking in this hobby..

Starting him over Palmer, Campbell, and leftwich. Bryant out may reduce Tampa Bays TOP, giving Edwards more opps to do something.

Anyone else rolling with Edwards this week? I am sitting Hass for him, hoping to get what I got last week, 200+ 2.
Glad this worked out. He looks pretty good, would have had another 40 yards if TO holds onto an easy catch. Could be good value this year (I need it, Hass is my other QB  )
