Players Asking to be Traded (1 Viewer)

I haven't gone back and added it up or anything, but it seems like there are a larger than average amount of higher-profile players demanding to be traded this off-season. Jones, Brown, Porter, Lelie, etc.. Do you think that perhaps the new CBA has something do with it, by somehow empowering players to take more control, or is it just a coincidence? Or maybe this is just a normal off-season.

Just spoiled babies showing their true colors.

I agree that it seems like more players than usual requesting trades. I know Brown is in a contract year, not sure about the others. Also, it seems like many of the guys you mentioned are underachievers year in and year out; Porter, Brown, Lelie.

it might have a lot to do with the fact that it is starting to seem like every player who makes a big fuss about being traded, gets traded. More will do it as it seems to work

The way things work now, teams seek to lock up players a year or even two years before their contracts expire. When players either realize that they won't be awarded an extension, or receive a poor offer from the team, they know that the future is somewhere else. When relationships with coaches break down, or when playing time becomes restricted, players realize that the will not have an opportunity to showcase their skills to other teams in the final year of their deal. At that point, forcing a way out is the only way they can protect their own value.

Its probably wrong to assume its always the player asking for a trade. Sometimes its the agent asking for a trade as a negotiations ploy.

This was the case with Brown, who hired new agents the week before IIRC.

I don't think it is a bad thing at all. All successful deals involves both parties being happy. If the deal consist of the player being unhappy, then who really is the loser? Probably the team.
