At the halfway point of the fantasy season, there are always some guys that are silently performing or emerging in a big way but are still being overlooked by the majority of owners (and are often still sitting on the waiver wire). They can be the key to winning a championship. Let's try to identify a few:

Andre Roberts - the #11 WR in standard scoring, he is top 30 in targets and is making plays. With Fitzgerald drawing coverage, both Arizona QBs have relied on Roberts and he's been delivering.

Shane Vereen - finally healthy, the preseason favorite for the #1 RB job started over Ridley last week. NE is one of the top rushing teams this year and Ridley has been fumbling and otherwise not impressing. Bolden was emerging but has a tough injury. The door is open for Vereen to be a top 20 RB the rest of the way.

Santana Moss - it has been years since Moss had a great QB. With Garcon looking like he might be done for the year and Fred Davis on IR, Moss has the chance to re-emerge as a great fantasy WR. He's been a top 15 WR over the past several weeks and there's no reason he can't stay there the rest of the season. He's also still sitting on most waiver wires.

Pierre Thomas - he's quietly put up top 30 PPG RB numbers so far and got his first double-digit carry game last week out of the bye. Should be a solid RB2-3 guy as Ingram fades from the offense.

Ridley has fumbled one time this year. Not impressing? How about 4.4 YPC and leading all rushers in first downs (41). I'll give you an impressive stat: on 2nd-4th downs of 5 yards or less he has 34 carries for a whopping 23 first downs and a 4.1 YPC.

Much thanks for the post. I'm guilty of overlooking Andre Roberts and true enough he was available on waivers. Ranked #14 in our 0.5ppr league that's a nice pickup for my WR4.

I'm really confused on the NE RB situations -- Ridley was awesome to start the year, but seems to be trending downward a bit lately in terms of production. No idea if Vereen poses a legitimate threat, but the last couple of games Ridley hasn't been as productive and has averaged under 4 ypc. It'll be interesting to see how the split goes if/when all these guys are healthy (if there even is a split, Ridley could keep the gig for sure).

Unless he becomes a little more reliable, I don't think a guy that only has good numbers every 1/3 games will help you win your league. He's worth a hold for now though.

Danny Amendola was dropped in both my redraft leagues. He's still in the Top 30. He was the #6 wideout when he went down with injury.

Appreciate the thread, but with the off chance of maybe Vereen, these guys aren't going to win any leagues for anyone unless your team is stacked with some very high quality and you need to fill your last starter position that you have been struggling with all year.

And if you league has these guys on waivers that means most of the other teams are stacked or they just have given up. None of these guys, other than Vereen, has been on waivers since about week 3 for us.

Vereen is intriguing, but to think that Belichek would focus on him enough to put up stats during a two or three week FFL playoff run when he has three other viable options in the backfield is hard to predict.

To me, the type of gamble now that could pay off in spades and may actually be on most waiver wires is Vincent Brown. By week 14 he should be plenty healthy, and SD most likely wants to get him in the fold. Gates is underproducing and they need consistency at WR, and by all accounts Brown was the star of training camp.

And if DWill is on your waivers by some chance as he is in ours, maybe pick him up to see if he gets traded in next two weeks. New GM in Carolina and DWill is sitting the bench. NFL trade deadline moved back to week 8 this year. Might as well trade him for a bag of chips vs just cutting at the end of the year. I'd also nominate Kendall Hunter if he is on waivers as Gore owner may have dropped him for bye week issues.

Those are guys who could win you a championship.

As a NE homer, I think that Vereen will probably replace Boldin and poses a significant threat to Woodhead's role as 3rd down & 2 minute drill running back. I dont think that anyone is going to displace Ridley as the primary runner on 1st & 2nd downs. He's been rock solid and is arguably the best running back that they've had in years. I doubt that you see him (Ridley) approach that 28 carry performance that he had in week 5 again this year (except for maybe in the playoffs). They dont want to wear him out before the end of the season - so in games where they rush alot, I think you see Vereen replace Bolden plus get substantial action in 3rd down & 2-minute drill situations. I dont think that they have a true goal line back. They ususally seem to rotate that duty.

He's fumbled twice, lost one. I thought fumbling came up last year for him and in the preseason as well, no?If BJGE was averaging 4.4ypc on the Pats everyone would be saying he should be getting 5ypc on that offense.

Weren't those the first 2 games of the season? I know for a fact he hasn't fumbled in his last few games.

When I think of "players that can help you win your league" I consider trades more than waivers.

Hitting the fantasy lottery on a waiver move is luck. Especially when I see names like Hunter, Vereen, Andre Roberts, etc. If someone needs an injury to produce you're simply wasting a roster spot. Andre Roberts? I'm not sure you can count on the #2 WR on that team to consistently outproduce top fantasy WRs in your playoffs.

I'd be targeting talented players with prominent rolese in their respective offenses that have underproduced so far.

Chris Johnson was one of these players before last week.

I've seen laughable trades posted for Calvin Johnson after Monday night's game. It doesn't hurt to ask what it would take to get him from a likely frustrated owner. I know I am.

Darren McFadden has a fantastic schedule, and he can probably be pried away from his owner without dismantling your team. In that same vein, Denarius Moore could be a player to go after if you're a little weak at WR. His owner probably drafted him pretty late.

Antonio Gates' owner might be looking to outsmart himself by "selling high" after last week.

Rashard Mendenhall could also be a target after missing last week while Dwyer had a nice game.

Stevan Ridley's owner is likely terrified of Belichick, Vereen/Woodhead/Bolden, and the Pats' tendency to pass. Their schedule is pretty light, and I still see Ridley running extremely hard.

These are some guys who could actually help you "win your league" if things break in your favor if you can acquire them.

Yes. He was on his way to a RBBC with BJGE last year, then he fumbled and got stuck on the bench.

Agreed (sortof). Vereen and Ridley are completely different types of RBs. The Pats want to use both in a thunder and lightning offense, not one or the other. But Bolden is more of a Ridley-type power runner. I see Vereen as mainly a threat to Woodhead.

He's sitting on my wire. They have a bye next week. I was thinking about letting him sit through this weekend but maybe I should grab him before someone else does.

Another slim possibility that might be out there......Beanie Wells. He was dropped in my league by a guy that had to replace him with a starter. He got forgotten about on our wire until I saw him there yesterday and scooped him up.

Would you drop D.Moore, or T. Smith to pick him up.

you guys and your mcfadden schedule, Id sell him in a heart beat. sometimes the talent cannot overcome the situation and he's due to get banged up
i'm trying to acquire him in one league (have Goodson rostered who I see as a solid backup right now)....he is still going to get the rock and OAK has some weapons....McFadden could go on one of those tears soon where he carries you for a few weeks....sure they could get things figured out a little better, but I'm willing to take the risk...also curious.....who else do you see as "due" to get banged up so I can avoid them too...tia....

Considering McFadden has missed part of all four seasons he's played, it's understandable to question whether he'll make it through this one. However, maybe he's 'due' for a healthy 16 game season.

I am really wondering about the Hankerson/Moss/Paulsen (or Cooley) trio.I agree something is going to happen there in terms of the Skins gradually allowing Griffin to open it up more and more in the passing game. They had Garcon game-planned in for the whole year I believe (as opposed to that first game or quarter just being a fluke) and I'm guessing that they are not done with that concept. Whether that is Moss or Hank I don't know, and whther Paulsen or Cooley can fill in for Davis and be that late season TE filler I am not sure.Moss has 2 very good games out of 3 now, and Griffin's passing stats are incredibly good, not in the way that newton was throwing for gobs of yards last year, but in a Steve Young efficiency way: 3rd in passer rating, 1st in completion percentage, and 1st in yards per attempt, just 3 interceptions. This is not the kind of QB you rein in.But as we all know waiting until after it happens is too late.

we had those same questions before the season started....yet he was still a top 20 pick in most leagues...the thing about an injury is that when/if it does happen, it will happen on a play because that is what happened on that particular play.....he is not going to bet banged up, just cause he is "due" to get banged up.....if/when he gets banged up it will be because of what causes it to happen, not cause he is "due"...some may chose to factor this in more then others when doing on going player assessment....if this attitude is the general consensus regarding DMC then everybody that owns him should be dumping him....I don't think you will find that to be the case...but could in fact be something to take advantage of if the owner really feels this way....

yeah kinda like when he was probably "due" last year too about this time... but then averaged 19 touches after the bye (week 7) thru week 16....I get what you're trying to say BSS....and exactly why people could maybe get DMC cheaper then normal if that is the attitude of his owners....and if he doesn't get hurt, he is the type of guy that could turn it on and carry you down the stretch...

Three weeks ago they said he "almost died" on the field, and he would be out 6-7 weeks. With bye week issues, I waived him. He was scooped up by another owner in my league last Sunday morning, and bing bang boom, the next thing you know, he is practicing again. F me on that one.

They've also had a bunch of injuries on defense, so they are likely to end up in a bunch more shootouts. There are going to be a bunch of receiving fantasy points scored here. Maybe both Hankerson and Moss will be solid. I'm not sure, but Moss certainly seems to be making the most of his opportunities so far. 4 TDs in his past 5 games and 3 TDs in his past 3 games. Last week probably looks closest to his "opportunity" from here on out, since that's the first time without Garcon or Davis. And he certainly could start seeing more targets, too.

Stevie Johnson? Not a new name, but his schedule gets a lot easier from here out. Seattle and NYJ are all I'd worry about. Decent buy low option.

I still like Kendall Hunter. He just went on waivers in my league and I'm dropping Mendenhall for him. SF took carries away from Gore last year and I am reading that Mendy is in bad shape with the achilles and is highly questionable going into the week.

STL and SEA are going to be rough matchups WKS 14 & 15. Then again, sweet SB matchup vs. Miami.Dwayne Bowe has great matchups those same weeks, but WTH will be chucking it to him?If we're talking solely sweet matchups, Kerley has a nice stretch run. But who trusts Sanchez?Decker has a nice stretch run upcoming, probably not too expensive to trade for now.Jamal Charles and Willis McGahee are the RB1 and RB2 you should target for trades - both have great 2nd half schedules.

Randall Cobb is that guy. I have been targeting him in every league the past 2 weeks. I've been able to aquire him for loose change at the RB spot with a throw in WR.

Randall Cobb of #Packers is the most efficient WR in NFL. This is not exaggeration. Has secured 26 of last 30 targets for 339 yards & 3 TDs.

Agree with all of that but Charles would cost a lot to acquire unless his owner has a very short memory and has forgotten about weeks 3-5 over the bye and instead remembers only week 6's so-so outing.

Definitely - guy probably spent 1.05-1.08 in redrafts, and he leads the NFL in rushing. But he's not scoring TDs so maybe that eats at the owner in your league...I never trade RB 4 RB or WR 4 WR. So if you have a WR1 whose role might shrink going forward or is facing a brutal schedule (Welker, Marshall), package him with an RB2/3 and try to get a low end WR with upside coming back.

Mind sharing where you are reading that? I've been looking for information about the Pitt RBs, and haven't heard anything remotely like this; only that he has a chance to play, but hasn't practiced yet. TIA.

I'll say it again: Jeremy Kerley

I've been pimping him since Holmes went down, and he's still being under valued, especially by some FBG staffers. Some are still calling him a WR3 but only when there is a good matchup. He's a WR3 sure, but more often he can be counted on as a WR2 in a good matchup.

He may not blow up, although I'm sure he'll start getting some TDs', but he'll average 9 to 11 targets/week and be a very consistant double digit (or very near) WR from here on out in 0.5PPR leagues. He is still only 68% owned in CBS leagues, and that's crazy. He is in my starting line up for good, behind Ju Jones and Wayne, above M Floyd, N Washington and S Hill.

WR's are notorious for being inconsistant. Jones, Washington and Hill are typical examples. Wayne and Kerley will get me points, at LEAST WR2 points just about every week. Since I start 4 WR's as a standard line up, Kerley is invaluable. Garanteed points.

Wayne and Kerley will get me points, at LEAST WR2 points just about every week. Since I start 4 WR's as a standard line up, Kerley is invaluable. Garanteed points.
I think Kerley has probably peaked. He got a lot of looks by default when both Hill and Keller were hurt. Hill got more snaps than Kerley last week and Keller is going to be a big part of the offense. Unless you think the Jets have really turned it around, I don't see much value there.

Much thanks for the post. I'm guilty of overlooking Andre Roberts and true enough he was available on waivers. Ranked #14 in our 0.5ppr league that's a nice pickup for my WR4.
Unless he becomes a little more reliable, I don't think a guy that only has good numbers every 1/3 games will help you win your league. He's worth a hold for now though.
How much more reliable does he need to be?It seems like he is just a reliable as any other WR currently in that WR13 to WR24 range

Danny Amendola was dropped in both my redraft leagues. He's still in the Top 30. He was the #6 wideout when he went down with injury.
That's the one! I scooped him up yesterday. If he's available in your league, grab him now!
Would you drop D.Moore, or T. Smith to pick him up.
I'd probably drop either for him to be honest in a PPR. I like Moore a touch more than Smith in PPR so I'd dump Smith. Just too inconsistent of an offense.

Three weeks ago they said he "almost died" on the field, and he would be out 6-7 weeks. With bye week issues, I waived him. He was scooped up by another owner in my league last Sunday morning, and bing bang boom, the next thing you know, he is practicing again. F me on that one.
I'm usually on the opposite side of that. I appreciate you taking one for me. :hifive:

I'll say it again: Jeremy KerleyI've been pimping him since Holmes went down, and he's still being under valued, especially by some FBG staffers. He is in my starting line up for good, behind Ju Jones and Wayne, above M Floyd, N Washington and S Hill.WR's are notorious for being inconsistant. Jones, Washington and Hill are typical examples. I snagged him in a dynasty off the wire (shallow rosters) last night. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Randall Cobb is that guy. I have been targeting him in every league the past 2 weeks. I've been able to aquire him for loose change at the RB spot with a throw in WR.Randall Cobb of #Packers is the most efficient WR in NFL. This is not exaggeration. Has secured 26 of last 30 targets for 339 yards & 3 TDs.
Agreed and with Jennings being out for an extended period with no return date in sight and with Nelson ailing with a hammy, this week against the Jags should be a bigger day then last week. Value will continue to rise.

Hill got more snaps than Kerley? Where did you find that? Kerley is in on just about every snap, and he gets FAR more targets than Hill. Over the last 3 games, Kerely has 26 targets, Hill 10. Keller has 8. Last week, Kerley had 11 targets, Hill only 7. Keller had 7. Kerley is still the most targeted Jets WR. No flash in the pan.

Yeah, honestly, lots of WRs like Andre Johnson, Dez Bryant, Dwayne Bowe, and even Calvin Johnson are disappearing for a week or two at a time. WRs are inconsistent, generally. Roberts is getting good targets and producing, especially in the red zone. Lots to like.

"Stephen Hill led Jets receivers with 66 snaps (80 percent) at New England in Week 7. Now that Hill is over his hamstring injury, he's reclaimed the starting role opposite Jeremy Kerley (76 percent)." http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/7445/stephen-hillLast week was Hill's first back all the way from injury. He's much more of a TD threat, too. Not saying Hill is awesome, but his presence and Keller are going to limit Kerley, who isn't worth much outside of PPR.
