Players to Avoid (1 Viewer)

Guys - I'm not talking about Brooks - Brooks, I understand avoiding. It's the avoiding Moss part I don't get.
Moss has been a flop for the past 2 years. He starts strong then limps out with injuries. Then comes back sort of. He is a good back up WR option depending on his health and the team they are playing. But I have seen several fantasy players get burned by drafting him high the last 2 years. He is a late round pick at best in my 2 cents. Not to mention the QB situation in Raiders camp is untested and questionable at best. His best Fantasy years were in MN when he had spent some time working on timing with Culpepper and well making Culpepper look good. Once again my 2 cents.
Lots of people missing the boat on Moss. He is one of the biggest steals in this years draft as a 3rd rounder. Moss just has by far his most disapointing and injury riddled season ever and posted 1000/8. The sky always has been and still is the limit for him. That basement is a penthouse compared to 90% of the WRs in the NFL though.

Yeah, he also got about 200 of those yards and two of those TDs in week 17, when my leagues were done. During the fantasy season he was an absolute killer last year. I couldn't bench him b/c he was Moss and yet each week after the injury he was a dud.3rd round as a WR2 maybe. But not ahead of the other elite WRs or Gates.ETA: I think that Moss is still and all world talent, I just don't trust him to stay healthy or happy on the Raiders this year.

I agree. I have seen him burn too many teams as a primary WR. He is riskey at best. You never know when he is going to light it up. Sure he might have 5 or 6 killer games at best, but the rest are flops. Not to mention that he is a threat enough that any team with a decent CB is going to make his life difficult. I'd seriously look at the Raiders schedule before I took him early. I'll take 2 solid consistant performers over him any day. Yea those days when he puts up huge fantasy points are nice, but they are far between these days. Toss in the mid season injuries over the last 2 years, he goes late in my draft.

Moss was all world last year until he got hurt against the Bolts. W/o the injury, I'm guessing he would have ended up ~ 1300 and 12.A healthy Moss = top 3 WR.

That is the key, healthy Moss. In the last 2 years his health has been an issue. So, you can speculate about what he would have done without injury but the fact is, he has the mid season blues big time. Will he have them again this year? Who knows. His track record around mid season over the last 2 years is not great though. I know, I had him in 2004 and he cost me big time. Not to mention the fact that the Raiders are in a bit of a turn around phase with a very questionable QB situation. I'm simply stating that in legues I have been in the last 2 years Randy has burned the guys that took him high. Is he a deal this year? I'll belive it when I see it.

A healthy Moss = top 3 WR.
While I agree with this basic premise, I question Moss' mental and physical health with the Raiders this year. The current QBs seem to throw an awful lot of hospital balls and I don't see any fantasy producers on this team until the Oline gets better.Gallery and Grove look like total busts right now.

So you're going to let 2004's Moss mistake cost you the opportunity to grab him when he's an extreme value in '06?Good fantasy GMs are like relief pitchers - never compound last nights (or last seasons) mistakes by letting your emotions get the best of you. If you're picking early in round 3, and Moss is on the board, don't pass. You'll regret it.

Reminds me of Isaac Bruce having the "injury-prone" label prior to '99 - then having two back to back steller seasons.

Well look at his supporting cast though. New coach, crappy o-line, untested QB in a new franchise. You can be the best WR in the world but if your o-line folds and an untested QB does not have the time to let you get open you get nothing. Please draft5 Randy early, make sure you come back to let us know how it works out for you.

I try to stay away from anyone with a Detroit Lions uniform on, its worked out well for me.
Ahh, come on John Kitna is the new Detriot revolution. Draft him first for the win. LOLAll kidding aside, I can't belive they named him starter with out even a fight. Side note, Detriot has sucked for so long dont you all think it's time for them to pick a new team for the Thanksgiving Day game. It would be one thing if they were ok time to time. It's another to watch Detroit get spanked in a boring game ever year on T-day like it is supposed to be some exciting event.

Chester Taylor & Antonio Gates
quoted for posterity. Gates is fantasy gold my friend. Maybe after his 5th 1000 yrd, 10 TD season you'll stop hitting the snooze button.
Gates was fantasy gold with Brees at QB, now that so many other TE's are in better siutations he will be a huge disappointment in 2006. Guaranteed. As for Taylor, anyone who saw his stellar performance last night where he racked up an impressive 2.0 YPC against a staunch Raider defense should know he'll bust in a big way.

QB:

Culpepper

Palmer (I'd draft him if the price is right. Make sure to get a valuable back up).

RB:

Davis

McGahee (Situation in Buffalo hasn't got better besides #### Jauron).

WR:

R Moss
The only guy on this list I would even consider avoiding is Dom Davis.

Rivers > Brees.Only way Gates busts in '06 is if he gets hurt. Charger TEs caught 11 balls against the Packers Saturday night, and that was with Gates only catching 1 before leaving the game.Philip Rivers is EXTREMELY accurate with the short pass - I think Gates will catch close to a hundred balls in '06 if healthy.

Statistical impossibility for Gates to even be top 5 among TD's this year. Other Te's are in the mix now to take away his receptions. Gates = decoy now.

you must be nuts pal, i wish you were in my league.
:goodposting:
I mean really..... how can Gates even be considered here. He has a new QB, but that makes little difference with his talent. He is still assured of, barring injury, at least a top 3 TE showing. That is low side given the new QB risk.
Anyone care to revise their opinions?
see this week's roundtable for the staff's opinion on Gates.Collectively, we feel he'll finish in the top-4, top-5 from here on out.Personally, I think he'll still end up in the top-3, depending on scoring system.

:lmao: On Taylor?

brooks

and Moss if Brooks is the QB
???Why?

Because Brooks failed to get the ball to Joe Horn?? Horn finished as the #3, #9, #7, and #9 WR with Brooks throwing the ball. And Brooks' deep ball is at least as good as Kerry Collins'.

Makes no sense to me - Brook is a horrendous decision maker - but a fine athlete, with a great arm, and a great fantasy history.
Preseason kneejerk reactions and hate.
Good thing we never pay attention to preseason...
