Players with the highest ceiling? (1 Viewer)

I've always been a fan of drafting fantasy players with pure talent - guys that can win a leauge for you but at the same time could help you finish dead last.

I was thinking just for fun that this year I would apply this theory to every one of my draft picks.

Who are some of the players that you feel just ooooooze a potential stud season despite what they may have done last year or in years past.

For Example:

I definately have my eye on a player like J. Charles. He is in one of the (potenitally) worst offences in the NFL but had a spectacular all around season last year - there is huge bust potential here as Thomas Jones was also signed to play a role.

Calvin Johnson is someone who I was sure would produce last year but had a mediocre 3rd year breakout.

I think at QB you always roll the dice with a guy like Peyton or Brady or Brees - they always have a chance at a potential 40TD season.

Who are some other guys you see as players with the highest ceilings?

Not bad - not to mention he is a pretty good RB3 on your team - he gets touches and can be a contributor any week.

i tend to think pierre thomas is worth mentioning in this context. among RBs, he finished in the top 25 in my league and around 75 overall. if you take mike bell's #'s and give them to pierre then he finishes top around 20 overall.

this season, bell is gone and reggie's role is pretty well defined at this point. they are trying to hammer out a long-term deal for pierre right now. he's not going to be the focal part of the offense but he's the undisputed #1 RB in the best offense in the NFL. at only 25 years of age and brees at the helm, he could have some ridiculously productive years ahead of him.

-Those are a few players that I believe given the "perfect" storm; could end up as #1 at their positions by miles. Those are the guys you roster regardless. Just ask the people who had Brady and Moss in that special season.

AS far as a high (but not highest) ceiling QB- Vince Young's 13 starts in 2006 projects to a full seasons worth 4300 passing yards and 24 passing TDs in a league with 4 pt passsing TDs and 1 pt per 25 yards passing (1 pt 10 yards rushing). His completion %, y/a and TD% were better to much better last year than his rookie season- if he were to have another big season rushing (he averaged 28 yards rushing/start last year- would need to get up to 40 per start to match his rookie output) he could be worth a 4,500 yard 26 TD QB.

Not bad - not to mention he is a pretty good RB3 on your team - he gets touches and can be a contributor any week.

Agree. I will try and draft Stewart in most leagues that I am in. At worst, you get a solid RB3 who can help you with RB depth and bye weeks/injuries. At the best, DWill goes down and Stewart is a top 5 RB.

If either one of them went down, the other one would automatically become my #2 ranked guy and would contend for #1 with Johnson. We've already seen with Dwill can do with a heavy load (when he did dominate the entire field), and I suspect Stewart would do nearly as well.

LOL, OK, he could go from #2 consensus, to #1 consensus.I think the heart of the OP was "find me a guy who with a couple of random breaks could be a guy with the largest jump in rankings", not "guy who outperforms the other guy directly in front of him". Same with Rice...guy is thought of as part of the "Big 4" this year...my guess is that IS his ceiling.

Michael Crabtree is going to be something SPECIAL beginning this season...this guy is the real deal and looked light years ahead of 'normal rookie' WR's who attend camp,etc..

Michael Bush - dude is a bonafide starting RB on a team playing 6 games against ho-hum (as of right now) defenses in the AFC West...he's the starter, forget about McFadden

Eli Manning - we've just started scratching the surface with Eli in terms of QB production..might become a legit top 5 QB real soon..

J. Forsett - Alex Gibbs coaches the O-line.enough said.

P. Garcon - Wayne's days as elite WR are numbered.eventually , someone has to take over.that guy is Garcon.

Jamal Charles blows up to the elite level this season.

Hakeem Nicks also has a very high ceiling this season.

I also like Maclins ceiling this year and expect him to really grab everyones attention with his TD numbers. Explosive player in the making.

Kinda risky. Jones will share carries with two other backs and probably be gone by the 3rd/4th round at latest. Jackson probably won't get enough receptions although I really like him in my return yardage league.

I agree that Jones is very risky, this thread is about guys we think have a lot of pure talent. Kolb likes Jackson, Jackson likes Kolb, this pick is less risky.

Pure talent and high ceiling is an interesting combo that limits lists.

Talent is well defined. A High Ceiling definition takes much more into account.

These are the guys I'm tracking.

Randy Moss.

Talent unquestionable. Since last year he was banged up, Brady missed him on a handful of break aways and he was a little off all season. In addition to that he was allegedly dogging it. Now you look at the fact that he is in a contract year, Bfrady has another year post surgery, Moss FIRED his agent. Welker is out for a while and the rest of the WRs developing.

Ray Rice

McGahee got a lot of RZ carries early in the year and then they realized what they had with Rice. McGahee will get fewer and fewer carries. I think he'll resemble Tubby White of last year. Rice's RZ looks went uo by 1.33 after their bye and McGahee had 1 fewer. Bal actually reduced their number of rushes last year. If that bounces back Rice bumps too. Boldin might steal a few TDs, but he might also put them in more RZ situations.

Chris Johnson

I think we might see a slight slide back, but that's still a high ceiling.

Brandon Marshall.

He gets the nod more for his pure talent. I think Miami has been looking for a compliment to the RB dominated wildcat setup.

Felix Jones.

He has durability issues, but he is a guy who can score any time he touches the ball. He is electric and has great vision. His YPC speaks volumns. Considering his health history I am targeting him as a game to game high FPPG. If he keeps it together for the season, it could be wild.

Percy Harvin

I have fewer fact based arguments here. What I have seen of him is that he is a special player. He is a Welker like kid with an electric touch. If Favre is there they build on their relationship. If he's not there I think it hurts Rice more and Harvin is a great safe target. AP will ensure they're in the RZ often.

Boldin.

Very talented. If I'm wrong about Ray Rice the reason is Boldin. I have always liked this guy and I like him paired with a young QB and opposite a solid vet like Mason.

Eli Manning

They gotz some nice WR weapons in NY and I think they will be reworking their playbook to take advantage of that this year.

Others are out there but I have less of a formulated argument.
