Players You Changed Your Mind About (1 Viewer)

not so much interested in players you liked before & still do, or players you didn't & still don't...

for me, one that sticks out is lawrence maroney...

i had seen some highlights of him before & was impressed but i didn't really know what to expect in the NFL...

after seeing him shred first team defenses in the pre-season, i have a much stronger impression that he is the real deal...

this is not the same as saying he is destined to put up massive fantasy production in 06 (that will depend on how dillon does & is used)... just that if he is given the chance, i now think he could star...

i'm interested in this question because i'm curious about how & why people change their minds... a persuasive thread on board, learning new information, highlights, stats, combination of things?

i think a key to fantasy football is not only being right a lot, but because nobody can be right all the time, also being able to recognize when you were wrong, cut your losses early, get out of there & move on to something better...

this is of course a tightrope, because sometimes wavering leads to mischief if your initial impression was right & you end up changing your mind BACK (see DEN RB situation... bell, bell, cobbs?)!

above question could also take into account players you liked before but now don't...

i'm a bit more concerned about dre johnson... had high hopes & still do, but i'm starting to think that kubiak may not be able to turn things such as the OL around as quickly as i had hoped (my first mistake :) )...

Lee Evans. Wasn't particularly enamered with him last year, but now I really think he has a shot to break into the top 10 WRs this season.

For example . . .

I am higher on S-Jax than previously based on what the team has been saying, researching his numbers some more, and generally getting a sense that the team will in reality run more than in the past. His health and durability still trouble me, but he has jumped up some in my mind since the end of last season. (I used him as an example since I know you generally like the Rams.)

good ones...

i already like evans a ton, but thought QB confusion & ineptitude might hold him back... he might be so good that he scores regardless, & bonus is losman could be serviceable (they hooked up for 3 TDs in one QUARTER last year!!!)...

i'm warming up to FWP, too... gotta like recent news that he should get goal line carries (that could be subject to change if he doesn't convert his early opportunities)...

I think I'm starting to come around on Willie Parker.
Me too.Warming up to Frank Gore - I wanted nothing to do with the SF offense at the end of the season last year but since watching Gore in the preseason and the trading of Barlow I think Gore could be a good #3 Baack with upside in my 10 team league.I am cooling on Kurt Warner - The play of ML spells the transition at QB might be closer than I thought. Cold on Clinton Portis. - The Shoulder injury and the horrible (not just bad ) preseason by the skins has me thinking Portis will be limited this year and I am no longer considering him as a STUD FF RB.Edit made to make my selections more clear.

thanx, attempting to parse your thought process was EXACTLY type of answer i was trying to elicit from others to compare notes with & hopefully improve on my own...ironically i'm convinced jackson will get opps but i'm starting to have questions about OL (may not be as good as i thought) and just how good a RB he really is... oh, i know he is good, but i'm starting to question more whether he is a truly great RB (to the extent any RB as young & relatively unproven could be... i can only speak to potential here, because that is almost all he has)...

I have the opposite opinion of SJax. I saw the Rams hardly run him at all against the Texans and each time they did he was stuffed at the line. As a Texans fan I wasn't sure if I should be happy that our defense was improving or wondering if SJax's line was that bad should I have the opportunity to draft him.

I'm really warming on DeMeco Ryans. He's really coming on for the Texans' defense and should help them to respectability in the near future.

Ben Roethlisberger. I think they are going to open it up a bit, they seemed to last year as the season went on, and I think with Bettis gone, Whisenhunt will put the ball in Ben's hands more.

Chris Brown. I thought he might have value, and might have some nice games. But the Titans offseason hasn't impressed me, and he's been a malcontent.

DeAngelo Williams. After the draft, I thought he might be the top rook back, now I'm not so sure.

Corey Bradford: I didn't have him ranked at all, but with the poor summers by Rogers and Williams, I think he may have some nice games, and when/if ROY goes down again, he could have some games as the #1 target of a Martz offense. I'm keeping my eye on him.

Muhsin Muhammad. I thought he was a steal in every draft I participated in, and think he could easily get 90 catches this year. I've come around a bit on the Bears offense in general.

Reuben Droughns. Put up good numbers this year, but based on everything since, I wonder if Frye can keep offenses honest enough. With Braylon and Winslow, there's enough talent to prove me wrong, tho.

This is a bold statement I know, but Maroney could be this years version of last year's Larry Johnson. Maroney in my mind is one Corey Dillon injury away from being a top 10 back.

some more good ones...

ryans probably single IDP i wish i had targeted (that i didn't)... a few months a go i thought he was most likely to be SLB, & he didn't really stand out on highlights i saw... he didn't strike me as an explosive athlete, though ironically in one write up here somewhere, i compared him to tatupu as possible success story despite exceptional measurables... funny too, because in dynasty leagues i weight intangibles heavily & his (like tatupus) soar off the charts in terms of character, leadership & football smarts)...

agree on dunn... he has had material change with duckett traded...

another material change with mcnabb is stallworth trade to PHI... though i was already super high on mcnabb this year, so not sure if i like him much more than i already did... maybe some of completions that would have gone to LJ smith or westbrook before will now go to stallworth...

i guess i have to add stallworth to list, as i like him better with mcnabb going to him than sketchy brooks or brees with potential shoulder issues (hasn't seemed to throw ball deep much in pre-season), & long term, reggie brown opposite him has more upside than horn who could be done in few years, if stallworth opts to sign with the eagles instead of becoming FA in 07...

Jay Cutler

I didn't believe the hype before the draft, but his preseason has completely turned me around on him. Obviously he still has plenty to prove, but I have gone from quite skeptical to very optimistic on this guy.

Rudi Johnson. Not that he wouldn't have been high pick before but Cincy's offense simply looks unstoppable. Even against good run defenses, I really don't see him slowing down that much. It helps that Chris Perry won't be back right away either but Rudi seems to be a pretty safe pick in the middle of the 1st round. :football:

Donald Driver - Just never gave him his props. Maybe because he looks like a flailing girl making those catches... or drops.

But at the end of the day, guy consistently produces. Was very happy to draft him at great value.

Fixed

Like others, I'm real high on Maroney, but that is more bias because I am a Patriots homer.

But two guys that I am really keepinng an eye on for late round pick-ups are Steve McNair and Derrick Mason. They were great in Tennessee, and I think that the Ravens might be more of a passing team then people expect them to be.

Count me in as high on Lee Evans as well...Also add:

Frank Gore

Warrick Dunn

Bobby Engram

Eric Parker

I really don't like the way I feel about:

J.Witten

D.Rhodes/J.Addai

Brad Johnson

Brett Favre

Parker certainly heads this list for me. (kicker is I dropped the guy in 2004)

Antonio Bryant, continues to be underrated, I had written him on the list of guys to avoid, but now have targetted him late.

Chris Simms, while I don't think he'll be elite by any stretch, he deserves to start in the NFL.

As Bob said, Maroney is right up there. I didn't like what I saw before, then NE drafted him and I paid closer attention. Again, I don't see stud, but he'll be productive.

Braylon Edwards, I almost wrote off this year. Now, he may be ready to roll.

Rudi, I forgot to add him here, and he may be the guy I've grown to like the most. I don't have him in any league, but wish I did.

Re: Lee Evans - all I'll say is :D

Mason is not a late round pickups in most leagues. He is a mid rounder, and possible early mid, at that.

Warmer on:

Evans & Driver at WR. I was worried these guys would have trouble producing, but I've heard and seen enough.

Wiggins at TE: Krob gone, and then I look harder the MIN WR situation. I then find out they have a TE who leads team in catches, and has a body type most FF'ers can relate to. Excellent!

Parker at RB. I had him and played him, but I viewed him, as a guy I got lucky to snag a year's production out of that would be in a RBBC soon. I feel he's the guy there, and in a dynasty on a team with RB problems that I inherited, it's gravy.

Leinart & Vick at QB: Leinart looks better than I thought he would. Vick really started to stand out to me when I realized how his situation improved while many QB's had more questions this year.

Cooling:

Alex Smith at TE. I thought he was goign to be the guy this year down there, but he hasn't done much, and the Jolley trade makes me very leery. He's my #2 TE in dynasty, but I'm worrying.

Alex Smith at QB - if it's possible. I think he's goign to get passed soon at QB by someone there - I guess Dilfer, but it wouldn't shock me to see them even try Michael Robinson at QB. I think Smith is a Leaf-level bust, but for different reasons.

Portis at RB: the injury scares me.

Rod Smith at WR: Not sure why, but I targetted him as a guy I wanted, and now I'm glad I don't have him.

Warming on:

Chris Simms. I always thought he was destined to be a 2nd string QB, now I think he could have a pretty good year as a starter.

Cooling on:

Eli Manning. I had him last year, he was great at times, but I can't get visions of wobbly passes out of my head.

Wobbly passes for yards and TDs still score you FF points. Eli will never have that Peyton beautiful football toss - but he gets it there and should continue to progress, imo.

FWP

I was a big hater last season until i saw him play a bunch. I don't think he'll end up a goal-line RB though unless it's out of desperation (which might be the case this season). But as far as a career outlook i still see him being solid, albeit not a goal-line runner.

witten is interesting & classic case where you can interpret things in completely different ways & make compelling cases on either side, so there doesn't seem to be RIGHT answer...not sure if concern stems from TO... i thought about it, but concluded it could be good for him as he will probably never see double teams & it will clear things out more between hashes... fasano addidtion was also ambiguous, but i thing he will block more which should help free up witten to go out on patterns more often...i still think addai will supplant rhodes eventually (but will he be supplanted himself in few years for fantasy purposes?)... but i'm not as sure as before that it will be closer to 50/50 RBBC by mid-season & then maybe addai having higher percentage second half of season... i'm starting see increased possibility addai may not be as big a factor as i thought this season, & am a little higher on rhodes (for this season)...thanx for reminder on williamson... departure of robinson big material change... i already liked him before, & he will get more opportunity now... of course the dark side is he now has to go up against #1 CBs... i think he has a lot of talent, but he came out as a junior from south carolina team that predominantly ran... and it takes many WRs 2-3 years before light goes on & they "get it", even under best circumstances, so it wouldn't come as huge shock if he is still another year away from REALLY breaking out...

:goodposting: I overreacted like most people when Bentley got hurt, but the more I look at cleveland's situation, the more I think Droughns is undervalued. Especially at an ADP of 35.

Agree on FWP & Evans. Finally coming around on both.

Also, I'm starting to believe in Blaylock. Thought he really had no chance but I think he's gonna end up being their #1.

Now, I know it is one of the more worthless preseason games, but I really am starting to warm to Brandon Jacobs. This guy might just have some skills... at 265. And speed to boot.

I drafted DeAngelo Williams figuring DeShaun Foster was an injury risk.

I did some research and last week I drafted Foster, in OMEGA 20, as my #2 RB. I think he is a steal now.

I also drafted Peerless Price in every draft I,m in, and in the late late rnds.

I,m loven Peerless Esp. in PPR leagues, and at pick #18.

EDIT to add:

I drafted Foster in rnd 3 at pick 11.

So add value to that love.
