Players You May Not Know (1 Viewer)

If Donte Stallworth leaves via FA, look at Jason Avant. The Eagles love his route running and hands and he'll be at least #3, if not #2.

Adrian Peterson...no not that Adrian Peterson....but again the Adrian Peterson of the Bears. Depending on how the Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson thing works out, Adrian Peterson could become a very nice handcuff for Benson's mangina.

I know that we discussed him a bit last offseason, but he is flying under the radar again. Adrian Peterson has been extremely effective in his limited opportunities.

Willie Reid is far too fragile and unproven to think he will even start a game at WR.

My picks

WR Bryant Johnson AZ Looked like he could be a horse. Led league in YPC for a while.

WR Bryan Gilmore SF Someone has to catch the ball in SF, and with Bryants suspension, 2 week sleeper?

WR Ruvell Martin GB This guy got on my radar in the last few GB games, Favre likes to spread it out...

WR Marcus Vick MIA Another Vick? Hmmm... Forgot about this one.

RB Justin Fargas OAK A small diamond in the rough in OAK, did admirably as a bye week fill in 06..

RB Verron Haynes PIT Injured most of 2006, Davenport didnt do very well, Haynes could factor in 07.

Let's see about a RB....Andre Hall, Denver.
I'll never knock a team for taking a chance on a sleeper, but unheralded guys who have already been cut by at least one NFL team generally belong in the trash bin alongside Jarrett Payton, Quincy Wilson, and Damien Nash.

Let's see about a RB....Andre Hall, Denver.
Is this more about opportunity or talent? If talent, could you expand on your nomination in this thread?
Dave,It's about players that may not be on the tip of your tongue, but could hold fantasy value - either short or long term.Based on hearing this:
The Broncos are reportedly "excited" about running back Andre Hall. The South Florida product spent the last part of his rookie year on the practice squad and was signed to a future deal in early January. He shouldn't have too much trouble bumping Cedric Cobbs off the roster.Source: Denver Post
I included Hall.

Johnson will be a UFA at the end of the next season and I think if he is given the chance to start somewhere he could become a good FF WR

I like Jeff Webb, WR, KC as a longshot to start. He has been told he will compete with Samie Parker for WR2
From Rotoworld:Jeff Webb-WR- Chiefs Jan. 18 - 9:37 am et

The Kansas City Star believes second-year wide receiver Jeff Webb is a viable candidate to start in 2007.

It looks like last year's sixth-rounder will be a No. 3 at worst with Dante Hall moving out of the main receiver rotation. Webb versus Samie Parker is already shaping up as a battle to monitor, assuming Kansas City doesn't add talent to the position.

Source: Kansas City Star

Jeff Webb-WR- Chiefs Jan. 13 - 12:04 pm et

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards specifically mentioned 2006 sixth-round receiver Jeff Webb while speaking about the future of the offense Friday.

With Kansas City poised for potentially sweeping changes, Webb could have a shot to push Samie Parker to start. The 6-2 Webb has better size than Parker, 5-11/190, who might fit better as a slot receiver.

Isn't this just the 2007 version of D Carter vs K Colbert?

Someone already mentioned him, but my money's on:

Ruvell Martin, WR - GBP. In 3 of the final 4 games of the season (didn't play Week 15 due to injury) - he finished with 12 receptions, 229-yards & 1-TD - including a 100+yard game against the Bears in Week 17.

Comparatively - G Jennings finished with 7 catches for 57-yards, and no TD's (he sat out Week 17).

Also previously mentioned that I'd jump on-board with - D Orlovsky. He has great size (6'5", 225lbs), solid arm... I agree with a previous poster that I see DET moving him up the depth-chart & giving him every opportunity the minute Kitna flutters this season.

And finally a first... Billy McMullen, WR - MIN. He posted some decent numbers last year for a first-year player, and will likely be given a shot at a starting position this year. Robinson & Taylor are clearly not long-term solutions, and Williamson couldn't hold onto a signing-bonus let alone the football.

Mike Hass

WR | (6'0", 208, 4.61) | OREGON STATE

cut by N.O signed today by Chicago.

was drafted b4 M.Colston
I saw that.Justin Gage was let go, he could step in.

Good call. :goodposting:
Wrong. Justin Gage's contract is up. He's an unrestricted free agent. Man alive are you guys dense. Let me guess... it's the offseason?
Bitterly cold, or just bitter there Mr. Bears Fan?Let go, not re-signed, whatever. Hass is in Chicago, Gage isn't.

(Rotoworld) Bears signed wide receivers Mike Hass and Brandon Rideau, tight end Richard Angulo, guard Tyler Reed, defensive end Copeland Bryan, and tackle Mark LeVoir and allocated them to NFL Europa.

Impact: Hass couldn't make the Saints as a sixth-round pick (a round ahead of Marques Colston) last year and landed on Chicago's practice squad. He has an outside shot to take free agent Justin Gage's roster spot in 2007.
Not bitter. Just clarifying the cold hard facts for the mouthbreathing Casual Footballguys on the message board.

Good name to drop. The MIN WR situation has to be watched, but McMullen and Tarvaris Jackson did well together. McMullen we covered (ok, I covered) in the end of year Dynasty Watches. His prospects are decent if he does well in camp and the Vikings don't make a big move to add WR help.

Thanks. I don't know much about him. Was hunting for information with regard to background, size, speed, etc.

Derek Hagan WR/ Miami Dolphins

I remember seeing the guy play at Arizona St. and he was pretty impressive. Stepped in last year and did alright, but dropped some catchable balls. Could turn in to a pretty decent no. 2 next to Chris Chambers ( assuming they ever get a legit QB to throw to them).

Andre Hall - DenverAlso his scouting report from ESPN:

2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.

Grade: 30 | Key

Alert: RB

Comment:

Is a quick, athletic and versatile back. Has great fluidity in his hips and extremely quick feet. Runs with a great center of gravity. Shows balance and body control. Is quick when changing directions and hitting the opening crease. He shows great vision and the ability to stop-and-start on a dime when he sees something open up. He is very elusive and will make defenders miss in space on a consistent basis. He runs hard for his size and isn't afraid to "hit it up" full steam inside. Reminds us a bit of a Tiki Barber as an inside runner finds his crease, gets lost behind his linemen and gets through the LOS with great quickness and burst. He has very smooth and natural hands as a receiver. Is a threat in space after the catch. Is fluid and can adjust to the poorly thrown ball. Is tough and willing as a pass blocker; just needs to improve his technique and learn to overcome mismatches. Also has some upside as a KOR specialist. ,Is a quick, athletic and versatile back. I would add EBF's opinion of Matt Cassell. He is a buy and stash candidate for dynasty. The downside is that there is no point in holding him unless you are committed to holding him for the entire year. If Daniel Graham moves on, I like Dave Thomas, the TE 3 for NE. He might have the best hands of anyone on the team. If Graham goes, get him fairly early. Don't wait for him to have a big game, and then be at the mercy of the waiveer wire. NE spreads the ball around, but without Graham, I believe Thomas will produce in that TE 10-15 range, which is not bad for a waiver wire player.

People know him, but watch the Cleo Lemon situation in Miami closely. He could get playing time if Daunte struggles.

I haven't forgotten him, I just don't see him as much of a factor. I think Thomas will do better in the pro game. Mills has a chance to play if Evans leaves, but otherwise I see him as way down on the FF productivity order. Thomas made an unbelievable td catch agaisnt Jax in week 16.

I also like Hagan. With Booker's injury issues and Chambers underperforming, it is possible that he could get a chance to start or at least be a WR #3.Also like McMullen in Minny. If for no other reason than they have to throw the ball to someone.

something to remember CLEO LEMON knows his new head coach from LEMONS days in S.D ....
...Where they liked him enough to trade him away. SD's staff did like Cleo Lemon enough to pick him up, but they didn't like him enough to hold onto him. What role Cam Cameron played in those two transactions, we don't know.

Really really really out of left field.....Devin Hester

If Ron Turner is smart, he will make this guy get his hands on the ball from the backfield, slot, reverse etc .... if Dante Hall can play WR, then this guy can too. And he does have crazy skills (that cannot be taught) once he gets into the open field and get a burst going.

Crazier things have happened so who knows

are you being serious ... you most not follow stuff too close . this was one of the big marty and A>J SMITH arguments .. marty and the coaches loved LEMON .. and A.J SMITH traded him without even talking to marty or the coaches.. ....

Right. I'll be sure to work on my football acumen for you. But just in case, :link: to the A.J./Marty fall-out on Cleo Lemon. I could have sworn I read through 6 or 7 pages of Marty vs. A.J. talk in the "Marty's fired" thread last night. Several requests were made for specifics on the feud between Marty & A.J., and not once was Cleo Lemon mentioned.

here is another article ..

this is just a tid bit from it

Despite a 14-2 season and yet another disappointing playoff loss, Schottenheimer was nearly fired last week, largely in part because of his highly publicized feud with Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith. One of their most heated disagreements came when Smith traded Lemon to the Dolphins for quarterback A.J. Feeley and a sixth-round draft pick in October 2005 without notifying Schottenheimer.

"We didn't see it coming, so it was kind of frustrating on both of our ends," Lemon said. "It was my day off and I was getting out of the shower when I saw that I was traded on ESPN's ticker at the bottom of the screen."

Ironically, if Schottenheimer was fired, Cameron was considered a front-runner to replace him. Schottenheimer stayed. Cameron's here, and Lemon may reap the benefits, particularly with the uncertain nature of Dolphins projected starter Daunte Culpepper's knee and the inconsistent tendencies of backup Joey Harrington.

Regardless if the coaching staff liked him or not when i saw this guy play I thought he was very good and had some great intangibles. Very diverse Qb and FWIW i liked him from the first preseason game i saw him in.

That is why it is the preseason. If a backup QB is what caused Marty to be fired, then the Chargers are in much more trouble than I thought.

not why he was fired .. just one of many that lead to the firing ..

but what i was proving to whats his name was that LEMON indeed might be someone to consider .. he was saying that S.D didnt really like him because they dealt him . what i was showing was that he was dealt basically in a power struggle and now that his former coach is his current coach .. it mght be someone to keep on radar

I liked Fred Gibson coming out of UGA and he has now latched on with the Falcons.

Falcons signed former University of Georgia star WR Fred Gibson.

Gibson is a former fourth-round pick of the Steelers who nearly made the Dolphins back in September before an arm injury ended his chances.

I was pretty big on this guy too coming out of college thought he had a real shot when Plax left Pitt. Think he has a nice skill set and nice size for a WR.

Mathis is an excellent Kick off returner...ok to average punt returner and a below average WR. His progression as a WR has been stunted. Last year he was injuired all season except for 2 games I beleive. He did not participate in off-season drills because of a motorcyle accident. During his rookie year, he had hamstring trouble, so he rarely practiced at WR so the Texans could take advantage of superior KO return skills. He was far from a polished WR coming out of the draft and really has not put in the time to improve those skills. Right now is a primary KR who is a speed option as a 4th or 5th WR. If your league rewards return yardage he is an option, but has work to do even become a regular 3rd WR.
I agree with this assessment of Mathis. He seems to be more of a PR / KR threatthan an every down WR in the NFL.

Willie Reid is far too fragile and unproven to think he will even start a game at WR.

I think the receiver to be watching in GB is Carlyle Holiday rather than Martin. Favre was throwing to him alot the last game of the year and the kid used to be a college QB and seems to have good hands and presence. Just needs work on his route running.

McMullen was a stud in Virginia catching a good amount of balls from Matt Schaub. When he was taken by the eagles, I drafted him kind of high as I had seen him play a lot and knew what he could do. Come to say, he rarely to never took the field for some reason. He's swimming in the FA pool in my dynasty league right now but I stll keep an eye on him and liked that he got some playing time in Minn since the trade. He could bloom into a solid veteran.

Join the club. I took McMullen in 2nd round of a dynasty league, I was so convinced he would be the 2nd coming of HErman Moore, but he has done very little, despite getting some opportunities with the Eagles. Really a head scratcher becuase he was excellent in college.

Where does Koren fit in?
No word from title town yet. If the Packers keep him - I figure he'll be up for a starting WR position. Just my thoughts, nothing to back it up from the Packers.

Do you gotta link to the dynasty watch jeff? I cant seem to find in in the article section

I'm gonna add:

K. Walters hou, Texans WR- Big target, great hands and route running. Tough guys. ie Easy ED

D. Anderson Hou, Texans wr- late speed wr taken for KR, PR duties, seems to be just as fast as mathis with better hands.
