Just think if Steve Johnson wouldn't have dropped what should have been an easy TD catch in OT to beat the Steelers back in week 12. The Steelers drop back a game in the standings, the Ravens win the division, and the Jets get the 5 seed over the Steelers (by virtue of their later win at Pitt). Seeding would have been:

1 NE

2 Balt

3 Indy

4 KC

5 NYJ

6 Pitt

Just think of how that could have changed everything. Even if Pitt wins at Indy in Round 1, do they win at NE in Round 2? And if the Jets beat the Chiefs, do they win at Baltimore in Round 2? I know none of this matters, and there are a hundred plays you could change to move everything around in a similar fashion, but in the case of Johnson's play, dropping what would have been a game-winning TD in OT was pretty big in retrospect, as the entire AFC landscape changed because of that single drop.

Yeah a lot of "what ifs" could have messed with the order. If that order had occurred, we would have seen Pitt @ Indy and NYJ @ KC. I would see Pitt beating Indy and NYJ beating KC. Then you'd have Pitt @ NE and NYJ @ Balt. There, it's a tossup what would have happened. I could see Pitt beating NE as flat as NE came out, but who knows? Maybe Brady and company show up for that game? Then NYJ would have had a tough time beating Balt at Balt with the Ravens having a week off. It very well could have been Pitt @ Balt for all the marbles...

Just another thread that proves how close things are in the NFL. Green Bay had to win at home in week 17 to make the playoffs. They did and entered the tournament seeded sixth. Now, they are in the Super Bowl and favored.

Things are very close in the NFL and that is one of the reasons that the league is so exciting and has so many stalwart fans.

What ifs are always fun.

1 NE

2 Balt

3 Indy

4 KC

5 NYJ

Pitt/Indy = Steelers win

Jets/KC = Jets win

Pitt/NE = Steelers win

NY/Balt = Jets win

Pitt/NY = Steelers win

What if Calvin Johnsons catch in Week 1 counted...would GB have won the division...too lazy to look it up

The Patriots' offensive scheme is designed to beat the Steelers. Brady moves the ball seemingly at will against that defense. I would never favor the Steelers to beat the Patriots. This would set up Jets-Patriots or Ravens-Patriots in the AFC title game.

All depends on if the Lions make the 2-point conversion and if the Bears go down and tie the game up or win it. That play becoming a TD wouldn't have ended the game right there. Johnson's TD in the Buff/Pitt game would have.

You also forget the fumble at the end of the dolphin game that gave the steelers the ball after ben fumbled into the end zone.
