Please keep Chance in your thoughts and prayers (3 Viewers)

Thank you guys. Chance is a champion. Though he has lost nearly all motor function in his extremities, and can hardly talk any more, he is still eating, and will give his trademark smile when a visitor stops by. We have not yet had to transition to morphine, but that is on the horizon. Not sure how much longer he has, but we are with him 24 hours a day, whispering expressions of our love in his ear, and celebrating the moments as simple as feeding him orange sherbet and seeing the enjoyment and satisfaction on his face. In many ways, he is our infant child once again, and we love him with all our hearts now, as we did then.
This is heartbreaking. You're a better man than I am to be able to deal with this.

You, Chance and the rest of your family are ALL champions. Beating cancer doesn't just mean surviving it, but it can mean telling it that you're going to be strong and live a beautiful life despite it. Chance is living the best life he can with you and your family beside him. Good for all of you. Love every damn one of you.

What everyone else has said.

Thank you for sharing this deeply personal and emotional time with us. It means something to me and obviously many others here. I hope that is meaningful to Chance and your whole family in some small way.

Beautiful

BB, continuing to pray for Chance, you, the rest of your family, and all of your caregivers. I wish there was more I could do to help. You are an inspiration.

God bless you and your family, BB. Chance is lucky to have you in his life. Sounds like you are cherishing the time you have left. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. Pax Christi.

Extremely well said, Krista. I'd like to echo these thoughts, BB. God bless you and your family.

I'm lying in bed with tears rolling down my face. This is easily the worst I've ever felt in my life about someone I've never met. But we have the easy part of reading the updates and sending our thoughts and prayers. BB, you are a wonderful human being and I hope one day to meet you and give you a hug and buy you a beer. I hope to god that Chance is there too so I can meet someone with courage far exceeding my own. Cherish each moment.

#### cancer.

pretty much where I'm at now. Keep enjoying every minute.

Chance is an inspiration to us all. I'm proud and happy to simply know of him and his father. Much love and compassion to Chance, and the rest of the family and friends around him.

BB, I have only know you through your music, humor, and thoughtful commentary here. But, as a father of a 3-month old daughter, this hits home, and I can't tell you how much I admire your grace and resilience.

Thoughts and prayers to you, Chance, and your family.

So, so sad. You weren't kidding when you said this was an aggressive form of cancer. Your family is in my prayers.

I know a number of you have suggested that the FFA come up with something special or helpful for Chance. Well, a couple of our FFA brethren have come through in a big way.

As you may be aware, Chance is a big Houston Texans fan, and his favorite players are Andre Johnson and JJ Watt. And as many of you know, rabidfireweasel is an amazing artist with a big heart. Yesterday, we received a really cool painting of Andre Johnson in action hurdling a defender after making a reception. What a really cool thing for RFW to do (I'm sure it took a long time) and Chance really, really liked it. We're going to frame it, and it will likely end up in his younger brother Clay's room. Thanks so much RFW for such a meaningful gift.

Others of you know that St. Louis Bob is one of the best guys around. Just a genuinely good person. Well, SLB reached out to his contacts, and I don't know how many mountains he had to move, but today Chance received a personalized video from JJ Watt. Chance was sleeping (he's on low dose morphine now), but as soon as I started to play the video, he perked up and had a smile on his face throughout the entire video. It was absolutely clear that Chance recognized JJ and understood everything he said. And that smile was worth the world to me.

I couldn't have asked for two more meaningful gestures to bring happiness to my son during this difficult time. Thanks to you both, from the bottom of my heart. And sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to my good friends here in the FFA for your kind words, continued support and offers of assistance. This is a special place. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Great update. I'm happy to hear that RFW and SLB could help out during what must be a horrible time. Still keeping your and your family in my prayers.

Awesome gifts! I'm happy Chance had huge smiles for these gifts! He must know that even strangers love him, too! (I'm assuming that he hasn't met SLB and RFW)..

 this one cut onions in my house

Those are amazing gestures by rfw and SLB! I am glad that Chance had the opportunity to experience some joy and happiness from this place, because I know that his strength (as well as yours, bb) has given so much to this community. On a personal note it has given me some much needed perspective during a time when I needed it. We are all pulling for you guys.

My only advice, which should be taken with a ton of salt, is to not worry about being 'strong'. There is no strength in having to go through this. This is likely to be the worst thing you will ever have to go through, and its okay to not always be strong. Let your feelings out. Be true to yourself, and be true to your family.

This times infinity -- so awesome to hear, and so glad to hear Chance enjoyed it.

Wow. Biggie, you are a tremendous, tremendous Dad and are going through an incredibly difficult time with such dignity, selflessness and grace. Truly an inspiration to us all. Chance is truly lucky to have you as a Dad.

RFW and SLB - I don't know either one of you personally but man, after this, I sure hope I do someday. The kind of people I like to associate with. Giving to others and walking the talk. Most excellent. Very proud of my FBG brethren. LIfe is people. And some damn fine ones on this board.

Chance may indeed be a champion, but he's not in the only one in your household. You and wife certainly qualify as well. You are amazing.

BB, I really hope you don't mind my saying as I don't mean this the wrong way at all. This thread has the two extremes of the spectrum: Utmost despair and tragedy paired with the triumph and love and goodwill and generosity and humanity. To see what two "strangers" have done for another is so uplifting and gives us hope that there are still some very great people in the world. Unfortunately, it's just so heartbreaking that this has to happen to begin with. As someone else said, feeling so helpless, I'm so happy that SLB and RFW were able to do what they did for Chance and so very glad that Chance was able to enjoy what was done for him.

Again, words can't really express how sad I feel for you,Chance, and the rest of your family. I can only wish you the best moments of those that are left. I'm glad you were able to share this time with everyone here and I hope it's been helpful for you and yours. If anything, it serves us all as a reminder how lucky we all are to be here and have what we have and that it can all be gone at any moment. God bless Chance and God bless you.

I can speak for us all in thanking RFW and SLB for bringing both smiles and happiness to Chance and his family.

If I ever think they should shut this thing down, I'll remember this thread. It's nice to be reminded of the goodness of humanity, something we too easily forget when we focus on the negative side of things.

More love sent your way BB, we're here for you.
