points allowed question (1 Viewer)

So in the DEN v OAK game Cutler threw a pick that OAK returned for a TD. Denvers defense and special teams were never on the field for the play, but on ESPN it shows that Denver has allowed those points. I thought in that situation it did not count twords points allowed? Anyone have a ruling?

It most leagues, it counts against you. Sorry.Only if your particular league scores "points allowed against defense" instead of general "points allowed" (it depends on the website you are using if you can even make that change) will there be a difference. I believe in the generic ESPN leagues, the standard method is used--any points scored against a team count against the DST.

The only fantasy league I have seen that does NOT count return TDs against the defense is The Sporting News' salary cap fantasy football.

This has always bugged me, but as others said that's how it goes in most leagues. One of the reasons I like a scoring system that indexes both yards allowed and points allowed in defensive scoring.

aol will differentiate those if you wish....our league doesn't count those against the defenses.

i'll say it again, aol is the best free website i've run across...handles salary caps and contracts, blind bidding, multiple scoring options like this...

very good for the price.

IIRC, Yahoo differentiates as well, although it does count the XP against the defense (which is still a bit silly because that XP wouldn't have happened if not for the other 6 points, but oh well).

I haven't really checked the ESPN league I am in because it's a freebie work league so I don't pay it too much mind but my other 3 leagues (1 yahoo, 2 rtsports) differentiate. Only points scored when the defense is on the field count towards the point total. If I take Denver's D and the Raiders score a defensive TD while the Denver O is on the field still, nobody I drafted was out on the field so why would my D be docked? And to take it further, if the Raider fumbled and Walker picks it up and scores that wouldn't be a defensive score for Denver, it would be Walker's. That's like having JT O'Sullivan's INTs count against Kitna. I guess some leagues don't make the distinction but that's one that I always check out if I join a new league because it's truly unfair, especially if you have a great D on a team with a horrid QB (ahem, Bears). The xp I can understand because it's the same guys on the field as it would be in a normal xp situation. But if my guys aren't on the field, I aint losing points for it.

We specifically set up our league on MFL, so that only the points that a D truly gives up, count against.

But we did have to customize it.
