What an awful group of names to choose from. How about the Portland Lack of Imagination?

Portland Breakers is the correct answer.

I vote the Portland "Yes we are in the northwest corner of the US, and have even lesser media coverage than Seattle, but we still deserve a team....Right?"

the Portland "what the hell was the NFL thinking"
I am from Portland and this actually made me LOL. That is good stuff. Portland will never get a team because they have small town mentality and that is the way they like it. We can't even get our mayor do talk about baseball and we already have a stadium for that. Portland sucks for profesional sports.

I think any city that expects a billionaire to pay for his own damn stadium is branded as having a "small town mentality". The community has supported the Blazers pretty well over the years. I can't believe any tax payers would invest in NFL football stadiums.... all that $ to host 10 games a year? At least with baseball you could make the argument that the 80-90 days out of the year you are boosting downtown businesses. Another reason baseball makes more sense is their season wouldn't compete with the Blazers season. Of course the big problem would be a baseball team in Portland would have just about the same shot at winning a World Series as the Milwaukee Brewers.

Portland Pirahanas (sp) came to mind.

I can already see someone posting " cuz there's so many Pirahana in Portland right?

Right, just as many as Jaguars in Jax or Lions in Detroit etc...

In the AFL they were called the Portland Storm and Portland Thunderhttp://www.sportslogos.net/team.php?id=1293

I like both those names better than any of the suggestions but I'm not sure about the logo. Where does "Portland Stallions" come from? Ridiculous.
WFL, not AFL...Id
Good correction. I wasn't around to see either of them... if you happen to know was the WFL a higher level of play than the USFL or lower? How legit was that league?

The Portland Porters

Portland Potbellies

Portland Springs?

I like the Portland Porters as my final answer....but it makes a bit too much sense.

True they would have almost no chance of winning but look at Oakland. As for the town supporting the Blazers, only when they win do people care. It is just like anywhere. 3 or 4 years ago when they were the jailblazers no one cared. The rose garden always had open seats but now that they drafted Oden and are respectable at least, people LOVE their Blazers again. Not to go off topic but im just saying.I love this city and we badly need a new pro team. I like the Portland Pioneers.

I always wanted to start a team named "bye week". I wondered how many of the other teams wouldn't show each week they were scheduled to play me up and I'd win by forfit. :lmao:

1986 Portland Breakers of the USFL. Good times in P-town.

Meh, completely different scenario imo. You have sizable markets nearby with no MLB in SAC and SJ(baseball and softball are very popular in both areas). Not to mention all the fans in SF and North bay from their hey-days with Reggie/Henderson/McGuire/Cancenco. OAK may like to play the small market card but there's plenty of population around the bay area to draw from. Assuming the Mariners would remain in SEA where would PORT draw more fans from? Boise? Salem? Add to that softball/baseball aren't nearly as popular in the area(I'm sure spring weather has a lot to do with that). Portland has great summer weather and I've had a blast watching Beaver games at Civic Stadium(lived across the street from Civic Stadium in fact) but unless it was owned by some deep pockets that didn't care if they lost $ I don't think they'd be able to field a product above .500 very often. Which is the shame of MLB. Sorry Brewer fans. And Royal fans. You are not going to win it this year. Or next year. Or the year after. Etc, etc.

IMO, the USFL was MUCH better, both financially and in level of play.Id

They can be kinda like the Cleveland Browns... call them the Portland Knights

ETA: Although if that happened, I'd bet Reebok doesn't get to renew the NFL apparel deal when the current contract is up.
