Porcello... (1 Viewer)

As I type this Porcello is dominating the Twins. He has had a few rough games but he has looked SOLID against Seattle and Minnesota. Say all you want about the lack of hitting on those teams but we are still talking about a 21 yr old in the bigs...

I'm of the opinion that if he continues pitching like this - he stays on the club even after Bonderman returns. I'm really curious to here what people think he will do for the rest of this year and next. Will he be a felix hernandez who enters the league and fairs decently at a young age or a Buchholz who bounces back and forth for a few years?

Anyone have projections for this young pitcher?

His fastball has incredible movement, I mean it's just special. He can dial it up to 96 right now and with the movement he has ace stuff if he can combine his 2 and 4 seamer with a 3rd pitch. Rick Knapp the Tigers pitching coach said Porcello's curveball isn't "that good yet" because he can't control the speed and to me his release point changes too much. But that and or a change-up would be his out pitch because I don't believe they want him to throw his slider too much (in fact I don't think he's thrown it at all).

This year? I wouldn't expect much and IMO he should be pitching in Erie to work on his curve ball but the Tigers really don't have too many choices until Bonderman comes back. Next year he will settle into the rotation and just like most young pitchers he's gonna take his lumps. But in 2011? He should be the #2 pitcher on the team and he very well could be #1 sometime in that year and his upside is tremendous.

Thought I'd bump this. Porcello has been great lately. More K's would be nice but he is exceeding my expectations so far.

It's amazing how consistent Porcello has been in the month of May. He is showing maturity well beyond his years.
