Portis Bruised Ribs (1 Viewer)

News: Clinton Portis bruised his ribs during the first quarter of Sunday's game, the Associated Press reports.

Spin: X-rays on his ribs were negative. The bruised ribs may explain why Ladell Betts was given as many carries as Portis. Although Betts is expected to steal some of Portis' carries this year, he may have gotten more than usual on Sunday due to Portis' injury.

Oh no...

They really slowed him down when he ran for 100 and 1 on the same number of carries that Betts received.

20+ this Monday night.

He seemed to get stronger as the game wore on. Were it not for Gibbs sending in the field goal team early Portis would have easily had over 100 yards and possibly 2 tds. Maybe it was adrenaline.

This is just horrible reporting.Gibbs said all week he expected Betts to have more carries. That was the plan. The ribs had nothing to do with it. In the postgame PC, Gibbs briefly mentioned that Portis had bruised his ribs some on one play. He kept playing and it shouldn't affect him going forward.

people will still hate on Portis even after he has 1500 yards and double digit TDs... :blackdot:

I'm not a Portis "hater" (in fact I'm a Portis owner in one league), but the guy is decidedly fragile. Seems like he can't go a few games without some kind of injury which is significant enough to require xrays or an MRI. I realize that's exaggerating some, but not too much.

Makes it tough to depend on him.

Here's hoping it's true. I don't care about the ribs honestly because it was clearly NOTHING considering th eway Portis played the rest of the game. If Gibbs' plan is to ease Portis back into game shape and creep up on the carries slowly that's fine. However, if the 50-50 split on carries is a plan for the future then :excited: Honestly, everyone knows Portis is clearly the better football player and so does Joe Gibbs. Eventually I'd like to think the Skins are smart enough to work more towards an 80-20 split of carries instead of this stupid 50-50.

I hope they pop him hard in the ribs on the first play of the game this week. I'll take another game with near 100 and a touch.

I love Portis but the last thing i want to see is an 80/20 split when the Skins are going to run it 450+ times this season. I wouldn't call it smart getting Portis 360 carries.65-70% of the carries for Portis is hopefully what they have planned.

Almost no back gets that kind of split. 65% of the carries is about right. As between the two, I think you mean you hope that Betts has 20% of the carries that Portis has - which would be a fine split of carries (ie - 20 carries for Porits and 4 carries for Betts)

this is actually a good little tidbit for folks to use in order to get portis on the cheap. that's what i would do if i didn't own him in every league.

20 carries a week from Clinton Portis = Top 5 fantasy RB. So yea, I'd love to see 20 and 4 the split. Whatever as long as Betts is getting a lot less than half like he did last week. :lmao:

As a Redskins fan I love the split. It keeps Portis fresh in the 4th quarter, and overtime like we saw this week.

So it was in the first quarter and he played the remainder of the game plus overtime with it? Everyone's ribs should be so bruised.

If anything, this bumps up Portis relative to Betts more because it means that Betts may have had an unusually high number of carries this past week.

I just picked 20 because it was really easy to figure out Betts' 20% of that.I think Portis will average 17-18 carries and 3-4 targets per week.

i'm starting portis this week, damn it! lost last week because i benched him for my flex position. damn yahoo analysts!

as a PORTIS OWNER I'd like to see him worked into the game when he can be most effective... ala Marrion Barber.I realize Portis is too good for this to happen though.

FYI on split of carries for teams

Last year, only 3 RB's got 80% or more of their teams carries (SJax, Edge, LJ). And only 4 RB's hit 70% (Rudi, Tiki, FWP, and Gore).

Aside from the possible bruised ribs, what kind of look are you giving Portis against the Eagles run d?

I know this post is boarderline Assist. Coach, but I am playing MJD, Reggie Bush and Willie Parker over Portis simply because of who they are playing. I would have considered benching MJD but he is playing the Falcons. I like that match up more than Portis against the Iggles.

I liked MJD at home against the Titans more than Portis over Miami last week so I started him, figuring the Dolphins had a stouter D and Portis would split carries. Pretty much was right but Portis still crushed MJD's output. This week the matchups are again in MJD's favor...but I don't know, it's hard to keep CP on my bench another week after that. Think I might have to ride him from here on out.

The Eagle run D is nothing to be scared of. They looked good vs. GB and hopefully the 2 young tackles are stepping up this year but teams were pretty successful running against us last year.I'd play Portis over MDJ.

How come Roto or another FF sites haven't reported this.... Lately; ESPN has been getting some bad info and I would like some other sources.

Homers....

I'm thinking of having a LB tackle me a few times before work to make me more productive throughout the day.
Terry Tate

Probably because it wasn't worth reporting. It was from a quick comment by Gibbs in either his postgame PC or Monday's PC. There is no reason to think this is anything more than the bumps and bruises every player gets during a game.

Thats what I'm thinking too... but you would think if there is any mention of an injury to Portis, even a baby toe, it would be on every FF Website.

MW
FBG Cheatsheets had Portis 26th last weekand 28th this week...

Is Dodds buying the bruised ribs? :wall:
Sometimes you have to rely on your own judgment rather than what you read in the preliminary projections. Portis will be fine. If you saw him play on Sunday you saw he is back. Start him with confidence.
