Portis on WR Malcolm Kelly: (1 Viewer)

Kelly is a nice sleeper. I wouldn't want him any higher than 5th on my fantasy WR depth chart, but his upside is a fantasy WR3 or even WR2, especially in PPR.

His only issues have been injuries, and by all accounts he's rehabbed very well and is 100%. Yeah, he had microfracture surgery, but my understanding is that that's really developed over the last few years and has a much higher success rate.

Absent injuries, there were many who thought he was the top WR in the 2008 draft. He's got great hands and leaping ability, is a good (and improving) route runner, knows how to use his large size to box out CB's to make catches, is a willing receiver in traffic, and has enough speed to get downfield.

Campbell has also worked closely with him and loves to target him. He's definitely a guy to watch.

I have him in 2 leagues and I basically got him in essentially the last 2 rounds in both of them. I'm happy to have him, especially where I got him, but I'm not plugging him into my lineup until I've seen him in game. He definitely has a ton of potential and another big target for campbell should be nice, I figured he would be an endzone target, but if he can be a deep threat too I'll be thrilled. Hopefully he can stay healthy though...that's the bigger concern.

Kelly had the best hands of any OU receiver I've ever seen but that's not saying much is it.

If he had a Brady throwing him the ball he could be a legit WR2 but WR1 would be a stretch until he proved otherwise.

Could he be the best WR on the Redskins? Absolutely. But that ain't saying much either now is it.

 This year, I don't expect too much. Since winning the WR2 spot, I have him projected for 45-540-4. Fact is he's still behind Moss and Cooley as receiving options. And, I think Randle El, while demoted to WR3 on the depth chart, is going to see plenty of snaps in the slot. Oh, and the team will want to get Devin Thomas involved.Dynasty, though, is a different story. If he develops to his full potential, he could be Washington's top receiving target in a couple years and reach WR2 status.

Kelly was targetted a lot in preseason, and several of them were in the endzone. They want to get him the ball. Can they? We will see...but he will have chances.

Just remember, Kelly was generally considered amongst the best - if not THE best - prospect in last year's rookie crop. It's only his second year, and he's won the #2 job over Randle El (who's admittedly not elite, but definitely a decent enough NFL player). In a dynasty league, Kelly is definitely someone to be a little excited about. Redraft, he's worth a flyer.

His hands have never been in doubt, however his long-term health is a concern. In redraft he's certainly worth a flyer, but in dynasty I'd trade him after his first good game.

That's absurd. While reinjury is always a risk, we've seen guys with far worse and more numerous injuries to their knees excel for years after surgery. Jamal Lewis stands out as an example. If you were having to spend a high draft pick to get Kelly, I could go with what you're saying, but the guy's a bargain bin player in fantasy right now so you'd have a tough time feeling like you'd lost out even if you held onto him "too long".
