Portis unlikely to play (1 Viewer)

Clinton Portis' sprained knee showed no improvement Thursday, and the Washington Redskins RB appears unlikely to play in Sunday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The NFL's second-leading rusher left Redskins Park during practice, wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt and burgundy sweat pants as he stepped into his Maserati. "I was hoping today that there would be a little more optimism, and there's not," coach Jim Zorn said. "He's still questionable. I would say there's no change today. I was looking for another jump, but there wasn't." Portis sprained his left knee in the 23-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers before last week's bye. With Portis ailing, Ladell Betts appears set to start Sunday. Betts has missed the last three games with a sprained knee, but he was on the field in steady rain for Thursday's practice. "Betts looked good," Zorn said. "He's got a brace on, but made some cuts. That was encouraging."

Thank you for the early update AB!

I have to prepare with Stephen Jackson, Gore and Portis as my RB. It is looking ugly.

I had a feeling grabbing Betts was a good idea.. if he goes, what would his expected production be? 80% of what Portis's numbers?

Hey I'm not trying to be Johnny Board Police, but it doesn't say anywhere in those comments he won't play.

I have already made the assumption he won't, but he has not been ruled out yet.

Personally I believe Betts gets the nod. Not sure if he will make a good start or not though.

You're right. I changed the thread title.

which is what the title now says

SA or Betts?
Betts! Pick him up if you can, I would not be shocked to see Portis out for a few weeks. From Rotoworld:Redskins RB Betts practices fully, looks good Ladell Betts (knee) returned to a complete practice on Thursday and Redskins coach Jim Zorn said the backup runner "looked good.""He's got a brace on, but made some cuts. That was encouraging," Zorn said. Desperate owners can plug in Betts against the Cowboys for Sunday night's tilt, but should have limited expectations. Betts is worth owning in all leagues, though, because Clinton Portis (knee) is no guarantee to be back soon. Nov. 13 - 3:42 pm etSource: Associated Press

Does this mean I shouldn't trust this:

"(KFFL) Ryan O'Halloran, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins RB Shaun Alexander may start in the team's Week 11 game if RB Clinton Portis (knee) and RB Ladell Betts (knee) are not able to play."

As long as you understand it will take two "If's"

Right, but it doesn't sound like either player is healthy (less so for Portis).
