Possible DeSean Jackson holdout? (1 Viewer)

Take with appropriate salt until we see what happens tomorrow....Albert Breer reported the following on NFLN after talking to Michael Vick this morning:

The Eagles will be heading up to Lehigh tomorrow morning to open up camp, and there will be another contract situation that will be a front burner issue. Michael Vick actually told us also, that he doesn't know whether DeSean Jackson will show up or not. Jackson's contract has been an issue for over a year in Philadelphia now. Whether he shows up or not in Bethlehem tomorrow will be the big story.

If I'm Jackson's agent I'm telling him there will never be a better time to get a raise than now.

It's just business.

Jackson didn't show up to camp, though the NFL is giving all players an extra day to report, so he has one more day before he starts getting fined.

What kind of money is D. Jackson worth? Top 10 type money? How much can he hold out for? Not saying it's not the right play, just kind of curious what he might get with all of the FA money floating about right now.

He is worth big money because he is extremely fast, very productive , young, and an ideal target for Vick (strong arm QBs like WRs with speed). I think he will want 60 mil over 5 years with 30 mil guaranteed.Jackson is 25 years old which makes him vary valuable, because you get all 5 years of the contract before he is 30. With an older player, you have to factor in a sharp decline at age 30 in the NFL, so the player might be worth 12 mil for 2 years, then 6 mil for the last 3 years of the contract if he signs when he is 28.

Here we go again a little more than a year later after signing extension!!!

DeSean Jackson has fired longtime agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Rosenhaus was Jackson's agent since he came into the league in 2008. We're not going to speculate about Jackson's reasoning, but it's notable that the "five-year, $47 million" contract he signed in March of 2012 essentially contains no guaranteed money beyond this season. This could be Jackson's final year in Philadelphia unless he really flourishes in Chip Kelly's offense.

i don't think anything new here.... his current contract has always been viewed as a 2 year deal, with potential for more, but basically a 2 year extension, then re-evaluate after seeing how his health/attitude holds up...

Have fun on this ride again Philly. He's not worth the problems.

DeSean Jackson was briefly demoted to the second- and third-team offense earlier during Eagles OTAs.
Jackson went into Chip Kelly's office to demand an explanation. The first-year coach told him he had to learn every position in the offense and do "everything the right way." Since then, Jackson has resumed his normal role with the starters. He's highly motivated to succeed as he enters a virtual contract year. D-Jax is owed $10.25 million in 2014 base salary, and there's only $750,000 of guaranteed money left in his deal. Jun 4 - 9:22 AM

Yahoo Sports reports agent Drew Rosenhaus has filed a grievance with the NFLPA against former client DeSean Jackson alleging he failed to pay back more than $400,000 in loans.

Uh oh. It appears we now know why the sides recently split. Rosenhaus is alleging that D-Jax failed to repay multiple loans he took out between November 2009 and March 2012. It's not unusual for agents to loan clients money, and Jackson was rumored to be having financial problems before signing his "five-year, $47 million" extension in March 2012. As for Rosenhaus, he's risking alienating some of his other clients by going so aggressively after one of his former players.
