Possible Williamson trade? (1 Viewer)

The trade rumor I have heard is Williamson for DD and the 1st pick in the 2nd round (33rd overall).

Still I doubt the Vikings would give away a top 10 pick last year for so little.  There are a ton of RBs available in the draft and through FA.
So little? I'd do this trade in a second. The Vikes get a quality back in Davis AND a second round pick! Williamson looks lost on the field and can't beat out Marcus Robinson to even crack our lineup. Lets cut our losses now on a terrible selection
Maybe this is Minny moving up to #1 in order to select Bush - offering their 1st rounder and Williamson in return?

Houston, You Have a ProblemBy Viking Update Staff Date: Jan 30, 2006In the land of the Texans, Houston fans are trying to justify who to take with their first-round pick. It's unclear if new coach Gary Kubiak is on board, but one solution could be what the Texans top brass was looking at last year. Any time you have the first pick in the NFL draft, it's a sign that you've hit bottom. In some instances, like the Chargers from a couple of years ago, it can be a short-term demise. In others, like the Niners from last year, it has more of a long-term feel to it.So it is that the Houston Texans have the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft three months from now. The questions are already being tossed out whether to go for hometown hero Vince Young or snap up USC's Reggie Bush. There are drawbacks to both -- the Texans have already invested heavily in QB David Carr and RB Dominick Davis. Enter the Vikings, stage left.About a week ago, VU was posed a question by a Texans beat writer about Davis. The crux of the question was whether new Vikings coach Brad Childress was enamored with the idea of a Brian Westbrook-type running back in the Vikings offense? If so, the Vikings could be the ideal trade partner for the Texans. The scouting department for the Texans had designs on taking Troy Williamson in the draft last year and the Vikings scuttled those plans by making Williamson a surprise selection at No. 7 overall. The team liked Williamson as an ideal complement to big, physical Andre Johnson, but that plan was shot down when he went off the board to the Vikings. It's the feeling around Houston that if Young is the choice, Carr has to go. But if Bush is the pick, Davis just as likely has to go since he signed a big contract just two years ago and the No. 1 overall pick will command a ton of cash to get signed. The Vikings might make the perfect dance partner for the Texans. While this may sound like simply a concocted rumor, VU's being told there may be considerably more validity to this deal and it would likely require both teams to move relatively quickly once free agency begins or even before. The Vikings are going to be looking for a running back, whether in free agency or the draft, and the Texans have multiple needs on both sides of the ball. With money to spend, both teams are likely to be free agent players and getting that piece of business done -- a running back for the Vikings and clearing out the competition for the Texans -- would likely have to get done early. While several other parameters will have to fall into place, this is a proposed trade that could have win-win possibilities for both teams -- giving the Vikings the running back they need to make Brad Childress' system work and giving the Texans a speed receiver and clearing the way for another Bush to make a run in Texas.
This story was on vikings.scout.com. I don't think there will be a trade, but if there is it won't be for DD, it will be for Reggie Bush. The Vikes would have to give up at least Williamson and their 2006 1st rounder, along with other picks, possibly even their 2007 1st rounder.

Williamson's got a shot to be solid. IMO He could be a late bloomer like Stallworth.
Donte Stallworth in no way resembles a "late bloomer." He had quite a good rookie year (for rookie WRs), yet in four years has not really increased his production all that much.2002 New Orleans Saints 42 catches 594 yds 8 TDs

2003 New Orleans Saints 25 catches 485 yds 3 TDs

2004 New Orleans Saints 58 catches 767 yds 5 TDs

2005 New Orleans Saints 70 catches 945 yds 7 TDs
while he has failed to match his rookie TD total in the past three seasons (came close this year), his 2005 reception & yardage totals represent about 60% increases over & above his 2002 numbers... if that isn't a substantial increase... how would you define a substantial increase...100%... 200%?
I'm not really looking at it from a percentage basis. My point is that Stallworth made a pretty significant splash in his rookie year and has struggled to advance beyond the stature that he had as a rookie (primarily due to injuries). His fourth year was solid for an average veteran WR, but nothing special. I just don't see how you can look at a guy who people thought was destined to be a star based on his instant impact in his rookie year but who does no better than the rest of the pack over the next three years as a "late bloomer"

People keep metioning Bennett! Bennett is GONE. They will not resign him. Moore has not proved he can stay healthy. DD + Moore + Fason + O. Smith(??) would be a decent depth in the backfield. I would love this trade in any sense that exchanges DD for WIlliamson. If KRob is resigned, we really don't need Will, but we need some help at RB. I don't see Fason as the answer. Moore is a good back when healthy. Who know what they will do with O.Smith. The only senerios I like better than this trade is Lendale White, Edge, or SA, and reality tells me that these three probably won't be coming the Vikings' way.

Just my :2cents: .
Time to give up on another raw rookie after one year?
I am not giving up on him. I said it was my 2 cents. I don't see the talent that everyone raves about. He averaged 1.9 yards per carry this year. (I know a lot was in goaline duty, but let me get to my point.) TO ME, he didn't seem to have the vision or the ability to quickly hit the hole, so I don't see him as the answer as an every down back! Could he be a fill in or a nice RBBC player...maybe. I said it was my opinion. One I formed while watching him during preseason. You aren't giving up on a guy just because you don't think of him as a NFL starter. I just don't see what a lot of others see in Fason.
I watched a few of his games at Florida and he looked to have the talent to succeed in the NFL. With only one season starting in college, he was expected to be inexperienced and it showed last year. However, I like his combination of size, speed and hands. EVen though he only ran a 4.6 on his pro day, here's the info I have about it:
Florida's pro day on Wednesday was marred by wind and soggy 50-degree weather.

Running back Ciatrick Fason, who will likely have to bulk up to be an every-down back, drew a prickly response for not working out at last month's combine. Considering Wednesday's conditions, it looked even more like a mistake. Fason was clocked in the high-4.5-second range in the 40.

Linebacker Channing Crowder, whose knee surgeries and off-the-field issues have raised red flags, remains a popular prospect because he fits the profile of the "flexible" 3-4 linebacker – someone who can also play some defensive end. Crowder ran in the high-4.6 range.

Both Fason and Crowder were said to have looked "solid" in drills. Still, the day was somewhat of a disappointment, although it appears scouts aren't going to go overboard with the numbers because the players ran outside in less than ideal conditions.

 Someone already hit the % increases from this year to his rookie campaign.

Year 1 -- Decent rookie year

Year 2 -- Everyone and their mother is pimping him. Miserable

Year 3 -- 3rd year leap. Not really

Year 4 -- Everyone's given up on him. Nice value pick. He has a solid year (career highs) with a crummy decision maker in Brooks.

Notice I didn't say Stallworth has hit his prime yet. He's still just 25. And playing for a contract this year  and a declining Joe Horn.

Wouldn't be shocked at all if Donte had a breakout campaign type like Santana Moss did this past year. (Leinart or not behind center)
