Post a song lyric (not all the lyrics, just one line or two) that you absolutely love (2 Viewers)

I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a ####.

How hot and sorrowful, this machine begs for luck.

All my lies are always wishes.

I know I would die if I could come back new.

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over

pieces  of the ground

silly monkeys

give them thumbs, they make a club

to beat their brother down

how they’ve survived so misguided is a mystery

repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability

to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.

Think about how many times I have fallen, spirits are using me, larger voices calling,

Don't let the past, remind us of what we are not now.

One man gathers what another man spills

Is there a place for the 'opeless sinner, who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?

Ah but it's a sad reminder
When your organ grinder has to come to you for the rent
And all you've got to give him
Is the use of your side-show tent
Yes and that's all that remains of the years
Spent doing the rounds
And it never rains around here
Well it just comes pouring down

Will I see you tonight on a downtown train?
Every night, every night, it's just the same
Will I see you tonight on a downtown train?
All my dreams, all my dreams, fall like rain
On a downtown train.

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and the kid's got the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

What a downer that song is

Broken bottles, broken plates,
Broken switches, broken gates,
Broken dishes, broken parts,
Streets are filled with broken hearts
Broken words never meant to be spoken,
Everything is broken

Another radical dream
Becomes a long lost friend
Beneath the rhythm and sound
Lies a another meaning

What do I do when it seems I relate to Judas more than you,

And I can't ever, I can't ever see the end?

Brilliant IMO

There's a bottle
On the dresser by your ring
And it's empty
So right now I don't feel a thing
I'll be hurting

When I wake up on the floor
But I'll be over it by noon
That's the difference
Between whiskey and you

Come tomorrow
I can walk in a store
It ain't a problem
They'll always sell me more
It's your forgiveness
Well, that's something I can't buy
There ain't a thing that I can do
That's the difference
Between whiskey and you

One's the devil
One keeps driving me insane
At times I wonder
If they ain't both the same
One's a liar
That helps to hide me from my pain
And one's the long gone bitter truth
That's the difference between whiskey and you

I've got a problem
But it ain't like what you think
I drink because I'm lonesome
And I'm lonesome 'cause I drink
But if I don't break down
And bring it on myself
It'll hit out of the blue
That's the difference
Between whiskey and you

You make me come .

You make me complete...

You make me completely miserable.

My interpretation: The 3 stages of a relationship from a man's perspective

1) I took a moment from my day
And wrapped it up in things you say
And mailed it off to your address
You'll get it pretty soon unless

The packaging begins to break
And all the points I tried to make
Tossed the thoughts into a bin
Time leaks out, my life leaks in

2) Lingering slowly melting away
Tossed with the salad and baled with the hay
Pooling the water that drips from above
Trampled by lambs pecked by the dove

3)  They walked into her cabin shack
They had never seen a southern home
And they liked it, better than their UFO
They liked it, they really liked it
They said, "Here's a place of elegance
Here we shower ourselves in lightness"

And now my bitter hands

Chafe beneath the clouds

Of what was everything

Oh the pictures have

All been washed in black

Tattooed everything

I could never understand
The wind at all
Was like a ball of love
I could never never see

The cosmic sea
Was like a bumblebee
And when I'm sad
I slide

I have never never kissed
A car before It's like a door
I have always always
Grown my own before

All schools are strange
And when I'm sad
I slide

I have never never
Nailed a nose before
That's how the garden grows
I could never understand

The wind at all
Was like a ball of love
And when I'm sad
I slide

Watch now I'm gonna slide

Life's like Sanskrit read to a pony
I see you in my mind's eye strangling on your tongue
What good is knowing such devotion
I've been around, I know what makes things run

I'll never hold you back
And I won't force my will
I will no longer do the devil's wishes
Something I read on a dollar bill

Can't help it bout the shape I'm in

can't sing, aint pretty and my legs are thin...

but don't ask me what I think of you...

might not give t the answer that you want me too....Oh Well ...

I actually opened this thread to post these lyrics, but I know it as Once in a while you get shown the light...  knowing the Dead, they probably sang it in a few ways over the years.   :hifive:
Just saw this. Yeah, I was going off of the Sublime version, so you're probably a lot more accurate. The Sublime version is  actually how I first heard the song, so that's just how I remember it. The passive voice is more Dead-like, removing the "I" from connecting someone to something spiritual.

Good observation.

I saw someone under my kitchen table, talking to my old tom cat
They were talking about hockey and the cat was talkin' back
Along about then everything went black

I can hear sweat trickling down your cheek
Your heartbeat sound like Sasquatch feet
Thundering, shaking the concrete...

Yea, I'm hung like planet Pluto, hard to see with the naked eye

But if I crashed into Uranus, I would stick it where the sun don't shine
