Loki - Shiba Inu who was rescued as a puppy with a supposed heart murmur that two different vets could not find. He does have some breathing issues though. Very loving and loyal dog, albeit a bit nutty and a runner if he gets out. The breed is supposedly aloof towards other dogs and humans but this guy loves both and is extremely friendly.

Bun Bo - a Corgi/Jack Russell mix (?). While visiting the graves of my wife's grandparents in Vietnam this guy (about 2.5 months at the time) started following us around and looking to play. The people living on the property asked us to take him. After a long process where he stayed with my wife's brother for about two months to get his shots and paperwork in order he took the 23 hour flight to NYC and we picked him up at the airport. He's a very lucky dog, as he was eating rice and covered in fleas with ringworms when we found him. He's a bit viscous at times but very smart, very loving a very loyal. He loves to run and play and cracks us up.

Abby - She is a Border Collie / Australian Shepherd mix.  Rescued her when she was 4 months after a small local rescue found her and 11 other dogs of varying breeds and and ages abandoned in Bakersfield.  All the dogs were famished, sick, and covered in fleas.  It took a while and a lot of vet trips to get her back in good health.  I suspect she was abused as she has always had a deep distrust of people, but once people are able to establish a relationship with her she is extremely loyal and won't leave their side.  She's very smart and trainable, extremely fast/agile (will catch squirrels running on the fence), and has become an awesome family dog even though it hasn't been an easy road.  She is going to be 9 and is losing a few steps physically and starting to go grey (it's been a stressful life).

We have a rescue that we have had since she was a little under a year old that is turning 13 this year.

Some moron tied something around her left front leg to apparently gimp her to use her as a bait dog.

She had to have her leg amputated

We were fostering her and the shelter said she was considered unadoptable.

Everyone should have a 3 kegged dog, it makes you grateful for things.

But, the smartest dogs we had were a pair of Jack Russels.  I am convinced Sammy (looked like Wishbone) thought he was a human.  We were at my in-laws house for Thanksgiving one year, and there must have been a total of 8 dogs there, and they were all in a large fenced in backyard.  All the people were inside, and pretty soon we hear a dog barking at the front door - Sammy had found a way out of the backyard, and ran around to the front door trying to get back in the house so he could be with the people!  We let him in, and he jumped up on the couch with his peeps.

But, when we had our first child, and brought her home, we were a bit nervous around the dogs.  Sammy, was fine, happy to have someone his size around, but from the moment we walked through the door, Mookie was jumping at who ever held the baby, and was nipping at the blanket.  After a couple of days of this, my wife was in tears because she could not imagine having to get rid of Mookie because she could not trust him around the baby.

Well, to make a long story short, it took us a little while to figure out what Mookie was doing - he was not trying to jump and bite the baby, he was trying to get the blanket off to see the baby - he was simply trying to see what he was going to protect.  And, from that moment on, he rarely far away from the baby.  We have tons of pictures where Mookie is laying right next to our daughter, but this picture has always been a favorite of mine - its my Dad holding our daughter, while Mookie is standing guard, and making sure nothing bad was going to happen.

We used to vacation sit the Jack Russell that lived next door.

He jumped up on a kitchen counter to get to an open bag of potato chips.

I walked in and there he was eating them 1 at a time out of the bag.

He was smart enough not to knock the bag on to the floor where our dogs that were too big to jump up could get the chips.

 
Our new pup, a patchwork Catahoula Leopard. He's  being picked up 2/1 and currently without a name. We are thinking about Brody, Rocket, Dozer and Chewie. Odin, Loki and Heimdall have been thrown into the mix but the family isn't agreeing on a name.

Met a guy at a bar in near the beach in California a couple of years ago.  His dog Riley was hit by a car and ended up having to get one of his legs amputated.  He changed his name to Triley.  Best name ever.

Now 3 yo, my first dawg. And I'm no kid- don't know what took me so long. An Alabama rescue,lab mix. One can see the lab involved, but we're open to suggestions as to what it is that is keeping him lean and athletic.

If this thread isn’t the best argument for embedding pics I don’t know what is. So tedious to create links as well as open/close pics. How much time is wasted by Members doing just those things?

@Joe 8ryant With the renewed push for more moderation and a well established base of good posters, isn’t it time to allow pics? Please reconsider your past position on this matter. Thanks.

Lizzy is 6, had her since she was 10 weeks old.  She has a bad hip so our walks aren’t as long as they used to be, but she’s a wonderful companion, a sweetheart who loves to give kisses and receive stomach rubs.  

Rory is 3 months old, adopted her last month.  She’s very bright and vocal.  A bit more stubborn than her sister, but we’re learning her learning style and having a blast getting to know her; my daughter loves training her and teaching her tricks.

Good thing they are both cute.  

They were worn out after their favorite game, balloon volleyball.  We blow up a balloon and throw it in the air, and they make turns knocking it around with their muzzles.  I'll try to capture some photo/video of that; normally I'm too concerned about one/both of them crashing into the television while trying to make a play to record the action, but I'll see what I can do.

98% of my time on the site is iPad or iPhone. 

Much easier and 10,000% better experience scrolling through pics than opening and closing each link. I don’t know if that can be disputed. 

 
We have two cats that are both ~7 years old now.

We took Gracey home from my wife's Pappaw's farm all those years ago. He is a big softie, in stature and heart. And, yes, he. Named after Mark Grace, my favorite ballplayer when I was a kid, and therefore ever. His temperament is often times pretty even, aloof with guests, but he'll warm up by juuuuust about the time you're leaving. He likes to drink from a cup instead of a bowl.

We found Nyx roaming around our apartment complex just a few months later. Her name is pretty apt, she is the goddess of darkness toward visitors. For the life of me, I cannot get her to behave around guests, she is so super territorial. Oh well, in their room she goes. But, man, she is a kittydad's little girl. She's on my lap for tv time, or sitting in a basket right beside me when I'm on the PC. She loves to play with little plastic springs.

It's amazing how attached we can get to our pets, they really are a part of the family.

So me and my dog are walking along the main drag in our apt complex when freakin' Cujo the unleashed weimaraner charged us (ran in front of a moving vehicle, narrowly missing death). Growly McBeal would have none of it. 10 seconds later, weimaraner was nowhere to be seen.

My girl was upset. She knows fighting with dogs is "bad girl" territory, but tonight she dined on New York strip.

In Florida the rules are more stringent for service dogs than for therapy dogs.Really they are two separate things.Most hospitals here require therapy dogs to be registered through therapy organizations.Nursing homes could have different rules.You could contact some of your local hospitals to find out their requirements.Florida Hospitals is one of the Largest Hospital group in the state here are some of their requirements.

My BIL has a very emotional husky.  She whines and coos a lot more than she barks.  It’s like she’s trying to figure out human speech.

Bo is the best dog I have ever owned.Smart as a whip but stubborn as as a mule.We are going to have to go back to a little more training though. Lately he just gets so exited when folks come over he starts that crazy bloodhound baying and just comes full blast at our guests.Pretty intimidating to see a 110 lb dog coming at you full speed.He's just happy to see any human though.Couple more pics of Bo he really loves him some S.O.S. and that tongue Gene Simmons has nothing on him.

Terrific pics!

Good point about the big dog running to greet human guests.  I’ve gotten used to having a big Labrador around, sometimes forget that not everyone lives with a big, friendly dog who wants to run up to you and lick you as a greeting.

I have two 80 LB Yellow Labs who think everybody loves them.  Watching some peoples reactions that is not the case. I can tell right away people who are not fond of 80 lb dogs nuzzling them.

How would you solve this Issue? Neighbor keeps dogs off lease and they run around and do their business on other neighbors property.
