Just for fun, post the 2006 depth chart for your favorite team(s). If you have any outlandish signings, please try and justify why your team will/should make those moves. Also, please be cognisant of the Salary Cap rammifications of any blockbuster trades. Try to make it as realistic as possible.

As a note, please bold any changes from last year.

Here are a few sources for you that you may find helpful:

My favorite team is the Bucs, so, here's mine:

QB Chris Simms

WR1 Michael Clayton

WR2 Joey Galloway

WR3 Sinorice Moss (rookie, 1st Round)

RB Cadillac Williams

FB Mike Alstott

LT Anthony Davis

LG Dan Buenning

OC Sean Mahan

RG Davin Joseph (rookie, 2nd round)

RT Kenyatta Walker

TE1 Alex Smith

TE2 Anthony Becht

LDE DeWayne White

NT Chris Hovan (re-signed)

UT Jonathan Lewis (rookie, 3rd round)

RDE Simeon Rice

SLB Ryan Nece

MLB Barrett Ruud

WLB Derrick Brooks

LC Brian Kelly

FS Will Allen

SS Jermaine Phillips

RC Ronde Barber

KR1 Sinorice Moss

KR2 Mark Jones

PR Sinorice Moss

Notable Cap Casualties:

MLB Shelton Quarles ($3.1M), DT Anthony McFarland ($4.5M), OC John Wade ($1.1M), Brian Griese ($3.5M)

Notable Free Agent Departures:

FS Dexter Jackson

WR Ike Hilliard

Summary/Outlook:

First off, I believe the Bucs will continue to build through the draft, and will not be big players in Free Agency, other than to sign some veteran role-players on defense at DT, LB and NB. I think they will pursue Joe Jurevicius, but not land him, and I also believe they'll try to bring in a veteran tackle to challenge Kenyatta Walker at RT (Jon Runyan maybe?).

While Wade is not a big money-saver, Mahan will graduate from RG to his natural Center position, and take over the play-calling duties next year. He spent a season under Wade's wing, and now it's his time. I do believe that they will keep Kenyatta Walker, because he is only slated to make $827K in base salary next year, and while he's certainly not lived up to his first round tender, he showed last year that he's at least an adequate starter, and the Bucs could certainly do worse. At RG, the Bucs have been targeting Joseph since last year, and he can come in and really help give this line an attitude next season.

On Defense, I expect this team to drop veteran DT Anthony McFarland, simply because his value simply isn't reasonable. He's underperformed his entire career and been oft-injured. I also see Quarles going, despite having a great season last year (which I feel was largely due to the success of Chris Hovan). I also see LDE Greg Spires staying with the team, but simply being beaten out by White next season. His $1M cap figure is a good value for a solid backup should either Rice or White go down. At FS, Dexter Jackson is a free agent that might be brought back, but if he is, it will be as a backup, and not as a starter.

A couple positions that I do not feel very secure about is SS and Jermaine Phillips. I remember doing a radio show with him a few weeks into last season, and one of the questions someone asked him was "who would you most like to get a big hit on?" and his answer was "Kevan Barlow" because of a story a few years before where Barlow knocked him over and barrelled in the endzone, then made fun of him for it. Because of this reason, and seeing several times for myself this season that Phillips simply isn't very good at tackling, I see him as a weakness that will be replaced in 2007. Also, I believe the Bucs will have to get lucky with a find like Jonathan Lewis at UT to keep their DL in-tact. McFarland will get a big contract somewhere this offseason, simply for the reason that he's the best available DT, which is pretty sad to me. This is a potential hole I see in the Bucs Tampa-2 next year if a young guy like Lewis doesn't come in and really impress.

2006 Prediction: 11-5, NFC South Champions, NFC Conference Runner-Ups.

Pittsburgh Steelers

QB-

1. Ben Roethlisberger - 2. Charlie Batch - 3. M.Robinson (R.3/32)

Maddox is gone, Batch is O.K. and Robinson becomes the new 'Slash.'

RB-

1. Duce Staley - 2. Willie Parker - 3. Anthony Thomas (F/A NOS)

Staley may win the starting job from the underpowered Parker and A-Train is a solid power runner w/ good hands and pass blocking who will be there if Staley is hurt once again. He may battle Haynes for 3rd down back.

FB-

1. Dan Kreider - 2. Verron Haynes

Haynes is a FB/3rd down back and moves back to a backup for Kreider

WR-

1. Hines Ward - 2. Cedrick Wilson - 3. Quincy Morgan - 4. Nate Washington - 4. Ben Obomanu (R.5/32)

Pittsburgh is really more content w/ their WRs than most people believe. With a year in the system, Wilson is a better #2 than El was, and Nate Washington will battle Morgan for the slot position.

Te-

1. Heath Miller - 2. Jereme Tuman - 3. Klopfenstein (R.4/32)

They draft one of the better blocking TEs in the draft (because they always do) and re-sign Tuman to another short term 2yr deal.

T-

1. Marvel Smith - 2. Max Starks - 3. Jordan Black (F/A KC) - 4. Trai Essex was a late round flier last year, and while talented his character concernes have resurfaced. Black is brought in to solidify the backup spot where the Steelers are the most thin.

G-

1. Alan Faneca - 2. Kendall Simmons - 3. Chris Kemoeatu - 4. Matt Lentz (R.6/32)

Pitt is solid here, and gets a late round capable project from Michigan.

C-

1. Jeff Hartings - 2. Chukky Okobi

Okobi is set to take over, but the next backup center comes another year.

DT-

1. Casey Hampton - 2. Chris Hoke

With the backup DEs interchangeable w/ NT in the 3-4, and Gabe Watson available he serves both spots.

DE-

1. Aaron Smith - 2. Kimo VonOelhoffen - 3A. Travis Kirschke - 3B. Brett Keisel - 4. Gabe Watson (R.1/32)

These backups are too valuble to the team to let go, and at least one will stay until Watson is groomed.

OLB-

1. Joey Porter - 2. Clark Haggans - 3. James Harrison - 4. Stanley McClover (R.2/32) - 5. Andre Frazier

McClover showed a brilliant ability to get to the QB at Auburn and as an underclassman had great sack #s this year despite missing the 1st half of the season due to injury. Also flashed the open field ability nedded to transition to a 3-4 OLB. He will be what Alonzo Jackson was not-the next Jason Gildon.

ILB-

1. James Farrior - 2. Larry Foote - 3. Ben Taylor (F/A CLE) - 4. Rian Wallace

A low-priced but competent ILB is needed, and Ben Taylor got an introduction to the 3-4 this year. D.Smith (S.F.) would be even better, but may cost too much.

CB-

1. Ike Taylor - 2. Ricardo Colclough - 3. Bryant McFadden - 4. Terry Cousin

FS-

1. Chris Hope - 2. Tyrone Carter

Hope is too valuble not to re-sign. He may command top $ as a F/A though. Worth watching this.

SS-

1. Troy Polamalu 2. Reggie Tongue or Jerrod Cooper (F/A OAK whichever one Oakland releases)

K-

1. Jeff Reed

P-

1. Chris Gardocki

KR-

1. Cedrick Wilson - 2. Ricardo Colclough

I could also put Brandon Marshall in as the 3rd or 4th round spot, but I'm sure he moves up to late 2nd after the combine. If Hartings goes (salary cap casualty), and Okobi becomes the starter, I think the Steelers use the 1/32 to get the best G/C (Mangold or maybe OT Scott) on the board. If Gabe Watson lasts this long he would also be very tempting as Pitt would always love to upgrade/solidify the trenches.

Players allowed to leave-

QB Maddox, RB Bettis, WR Randle El, T Brooks, LB Kriewaldt, CB Townsend & Williams, S Logan or Hope

Derrick Brooks salary for 2006 is $7.75 mil. IMO, he either takes a major pay cut or walks.

Disagree. This is one more of those "you finally get to make what you've earned and we've been promising you."

He'll restructure after this year IMO, and they'll draft his replacement next year, to take over in 2008 or 2009.

Cowboys:

Biggest need ofcourse is offensive line. I am hoping we go after a tackle in the draft and try to sign another through free agency. Larry Allen has hinted about retiring as well so we may be in the market for a guard, hopefully Marco Rivera can hold up for another year.

I am hoping Keyshawn is a cap casualty and that we go after a big named WR. Probably wont happen though.

We are in dire need of a safety to play along RW. My dream scenario would be Ty Law converting and becoming our answer to the safety problem we have had since Woodsen was hurt and retired.

JJ/MB3 will be battling it out for the starting RB. I think JJ wins the battle again as long as he stays healthy. With Tyson Thompson 3rd, no need to go after another RB.

We definately need a veteran backup to Bledsoe. If we are going to make a run at the playoffs we are going to need some insurance.

QB- Bledsoe, Romo, Henson (Europe)

RB- JJ, MB3, Tyson Thompson

WR- Glenn, Johnson, Crayton, Copper

TE- Witten, Campbell

I really dont see the Cowboys being that active this off season, most of it is just wishful thinkin gon my part.

Draft

1- WR, OT is my guess unless a good safety falls to them. I would love to see them trade up to get Huff but I know that won't happen.

2. Safety

Forgot about Kicker. Kicker may be the biggest addition of the off season....hopefully Vandy or Vinateri.

They asked him to restructure last year and he didn't. I 'd be surprised if they did not ask him again.

Call me old fashioned, but I still think Ty Law is capable of being a shut-down cornerback who can single-handedly change games. Maybe in another year or two...He'd still come in and be a great addition to the Cowboys though, but I think he's going to the Chiefs. I doubt he's sold on Drew Bledsoe and co. being able to win a Super Bowl.

Yeah, but you have to know the history. He's been approached every time to restructure, and he has "taken one for the team" every time. Finally he said "you know, I'm in the prime of my career, I'm the best WLB in football year in and year out, I've done everything you asked me to, and I feel that it's time that I get paid." So, they paid him. I expect them to do it again if he says that, but after this year, he will be gone if he does not, because they will not pay him $10M.

Like I said, it was my dream.....Why wouldn't the Cowboys be able to win a Super Bowl or at least go to one? We beat the Chiefs last year.....I guess your idea of Ty Law isn't very strong.....if he goes to the Chiefs to "win" but not the Cowboys at least...... the Cowboys should have beaten the Seahawks, in seattle, if Craptez hadn't missed a field goal. Dallas beat Carolina in Carolina. We should have beaten Denver, again, missed field goal. Dallas could have been in the Superbowl just as easily as the Seahawks. Deny it all you want, Dallas was a kicker away from making a run.

Bledsoe had a decent year, the losing wasn't his fault, he put the team in position to win in almost every game. Missed field goals and two blown assignments caused us all but one of our losses (Washington blowout was just ugly)

Pittsburgh Steelers

QB-

1. Ben Roethlisberger - 2. Charlie Batch - 3. Sage Rosenfels (F/A MIA)

Maddox is gone, Batch is O.K. and a cheap #3 is filled w/ Sage.

DE-

1. Aaron Smith - 2. Kimo VonOelhoffen - 3. Travis Kirschke - 4. Brett Keisel

These backups are too valuble to the team to let go, and with very little exposure shouldn't be too hard to convince to stay.

OLB-

1. Joey Porter - 2. Clark Haggans - 3. Stanley McClover (R.2/32) - 4. Andre Frazier

McClover showed a brilliant ability to get to the QB at Auburn and as an underclassman had great sack #s this year despite missing the 1st half of the season due to injury. CB-

1. Ike Taylor - 2. Ricardo Colclough - 3. Bryant McFadden - 4. Terry Cousin - 5. Antonio Cromartie (R.1/32)

Pittsburgh is pretty complete top to bottom, and that affords them to take Cromartie in the 1st and accept the risks. If Hope is not resigned, he can play FS. I see him becoming the dime CB by season's end, overtaking the aged vet brought in via F/A. Ike Taylor is re-signed, but Townsend is allowed to walk as the more expensive of the two.

FS-

1. Chris Hope - 2. Tyrone Carter

Hope is too valuble not to re-sign. He won't command top $ as a F/A but is very competent and young enough to sign long-term.

In the 1st round, I could see Chad Jackson as a possiblity. I believe his combine #s will put him just out of reach, but if he's there its a tough decision. I like Cromartie better as he provides the flexibility to play S or CB and the Steelers complete their youth movement in the secondary here. If Hartings goes (salary cap casualty), and Okobi becomes the starter, I think the Steelers use the 1/32 to get the best G/C on the board. If Gabe Watson lasts this long he would also be very tempting as Pitt would always love to upgrade/solidify the trenches, but not at the expense of value which is why Cromartie/Jackson are my picks for the 1/32.

This is a very nice effort, and I agree with a lot of it (right off, a few differences I'd have are the Taylor and Thomas signings, and the drafting of Klopfenstein, at a glance). I'll get around to doing one of these myself, but not until after the combine.

On QB: Sage? maybe. How about Josh McCown?RB: FWP is numero uno. Staley (unless he signed a new offer) should be released. Haynes should be re-signed. Look out for the unknown Steelers RBs ( ;) . A-train or even Stephen Davis wouldn't be bad, but I doubt we sign either.

WR: WE ARE PENN STATE! Steelers draft him in round 3.

2006 Dallas Cowboys

Free agent signings: C Hartwig, RT Ashworth, PK Longwell, FS Dexter Jackson

None will break the bank but all are solid players. More quantity than quality. Not that quality is poor, just not the top at each position.

Draft: 1st OLB Carpenter, 2nd WR Hagan/Nance, 3rd OG Joseph/Lutui.

I don't think this draft would be considered as good as last year but are solid players at positions that youth is needed at.

Offense

QB Bledsoe, ???

RB JJ, Barber, Thompson

FB Polite

WR Glenn, Crayton, Copper

WR Keyshawn, Hagan/Nance

TE Witten, Campbell

LT Adams, Tucker

LG Allen, Peterman

C Hartwig, Johnson

RG Rivera, Gurode

RT Ashworth, Petitti

OL and youth at WR are most important needs. Adams return to LT will be huge. As would be a couple of solid additions like Hartwig and Ashworth. Allen and Rivera are getting a little old but I think we're okay for this year. Need another young G prospect as future replacement. With these additions, the OL should be solid.

Not the greatest year for WR in the draft but either Hagan or Nance could be a good WR2 to replace KJ in a year or two. Still need a future WR1 with deep speed to replace Glenn. Crayton is an excellent #3 but I'm not sold on him yet as a starter.

Is Henson or Romo a capable backup? I have no idea. We may need to sign a backup QB too.

JJ and Barber can handle the RB position and Witten and Campbell (needs to be resigned) the TE position.

Defense

RE Canty, Ellis

NT Ferguson, ???

LE Spears, Coleman

OLB Carpenter, Fujita

ILB James, Shanle

ILB Burnett, Fowler

OLB Ware, Ogbogu

CB Henry, Glenn

CB Newman, Reeves

FS D. Jackson, Davis

SS Williams, Scott

This is already a good young defense led by Canty, Spears, Ware, Henry and Newman. Jackson would fill a big hole at FS and Carpenter would make a great bookend to Ware at LB.

Ferguson does his job at NT but we could use a backup since I expect Glover to be a cap casualty. Ellis and Coleman are good (particularly Ellis) backups/rotation at DE.

I like James at one of the ILB positions. Between Burnett, Fowler and Shanle, I think the second is covered as well.

Henry and Newman are a great CB pair and with Jackson at FS, Williams can focus on what he does best; apply pressure near the LOS.

Special Teams

PK Longwell

P McBriar

Longwell could be the biggest acquisition of the off-season. It won't take much to improve this position from last year, it was so bad. McBriar is solid.

WR: WE ARE PENN STATE! Steelers draft him in round 3.
Thanks. I didn't go w/ a guy like McCown 'cause he will be a #2 at worst, and will be looking for a starting job. He'll command more $ than he's worth to us. We have our QB for the next decade, so drafting is not realistic nor is an up-and-comer.RB, I think Staley will renegotiate, and his #s in '04 were great pre-injury. I just thought Parker looked too weak, especially late in the season and playoffs. A strong wind would have knocked him over as did arm tackles and the threat of a collision. I also like Whitehead as a 4th. He did not fear the LBs in the Senior Bowl AT ALL! He reminded me of Gado. P.J. Daniels in the 5th looks really good too.

If Brandon Marshall is available in the 3rd, cool. But what is the WE ARE PENN STATE!?

Cool, I do like that a lot. If they do get a back like A-Train, they could pass on a Humes. That pick is very doable.Parker is not uno. He may be the starter next year, but I think he is a better Zereoue, and that is all. A very good change of pace back. But really, I thought Bettis should have been the starter during the playoffs rotating in the 1st quarter, wearing down the D in the 2nd and 3rd, then rotating again in the 4th where Parker could hit the homerun vs. weary defenses. Parker just doesn't fight hard enough for me, and Cowher will tire of his speed soon as well.

figured I'd bump this. There has been some good stuff for Bucs/Steelers/Cowboys. At the least, I think it's fun to look at how these teams might all shake out once the season starts.

This is more hope than what I really think will happen. As long as the Chargers get Chad Jackson, LeCharles Bentley, and one of the top FA SS's (Archuleta, Chavous, McCree, Tank Williams) I'll feel good about the team this year.

3 FA OL changes seems nuts, but then the Bucs tried to do that only a few years ago.

Everyone is in the LeCharles Bentley Sweepstakes...... I wonder who will actually win it?

And you see McCardell being re-signed? I don't.... especially if they draft Chad Jackson, with Osgood looming...

obviously this wont happen, but the Vikings will be active, we got the most room in the nfl, and with this cba situation, a ton of players will be cut and i we will be there to pick them up.

We need LBs, i would love to see three new ones.

Like I said, that's in a perfect world and financially ($25 million in cap room) it could be done without Brees in the picture. The primary concern should be getting Bentley (like everyone else) and at least one of the safeties available. Chad Jackson would be ideal, but a tackle would also be a good pick in the first round. Mike Williams is just a flyer if he could be signed for a decent bonus and Fabini would be icing on the cake.

I'm hesitant about making wholesale changes to the OL, but with Oben getting up in age and Olivea better suited to guard than tackle, I think at least two changes should be made. Bentley of course is the jackpot and would allow the Chargers to move Hardwick to guard where he can show off his pulling skills. McCardell was re-signed through 2007
signed 2-year EXTENSION thru 2007 on 3/9/05
for a decent contract. One of the reasons I really want the Chargers to get a WR is to take advantage of the veteran leadership that McCardell provides before he retires.

I could definitely see Runyan as a Viking.

If the OL is in as bad a shape as you say, why would the Chargers not go for Jonathan Scott in the first round rather than Chad Jackson?

I heard that AJ Smith was said to be really high on Scott (no link, I suppose it could just be something I read with no substantiation).

Tennessee Titans:

Offense, will do D later on.

QB: McNair(though this is getting less and less likely), Culter(1.3), Matt Mauck

RB: Chris Brown, Henry(Im assuming he renegotiates), Payton

FB: Fleming

WR: Bennett, Roydell Williams, FA Veteran WR(Corey Bradford, Gaffney, Price), Courtney Roby, Brandon Jones

TE: Kinney, Troupe, Scaife

T: Hopkins(Will be cut, assume he resigns for around vet min), Roos, Witworth(4.3), Mathews(might not be around), Loper

G: Pillar, Bell, Reugamer, Stewart

C: Reugamer, Amano, Rialoa(6.3)

A little update to mine, as Cromartie's combine helped himself out of the 1st round, and some others moved in allowing Watson to fall to the 1/32.

I probably shouldnt do this, but why not? I'll make several suggestions at each position. Your Dallas Cowboy 2006 Starting Lineup:

QB: Bledsoe, Romo, Henson or late round draft pick. If Henson bombs in Europe, then a 3rd QB may be drafted late.

RB: JJ, Barber, Thompson.

FB: Sowell (FA), or Polite, or a second day draft pick. Dallas probably only keeps 1 FB.

WR: Keyshawn, Glenn, Crayton, Copper are pretty much locks. The fifth guy could be a draft pick (not first round) or a moderately priced FA.

TE: Witten, Pierce are locks. I could Dallas drafting a TE in round 2 and latter. Probably 3rd or 4th round. Perhaps a Fasano from ND, or Klopfstein from Colorado. Re-signing Dan Campbell is not unlikely either.

LT: Flozell Adams, Jason Fabini (FA). Fabini is likely to sign and will start at RT. If Flozell went down again, Fabini would likely move over to here and be the backup. I can't see how Tucker makes the team this year. But for some reason, I bet he does.

LG: Larry Allen, Peterman. Allen may be a cap casualty. He has a ~$7.5 million cap figure for 2006. It needs to be restructured. Peterman is entering his 3rd year and its time to see if this 3rd round draft pick can play. IF Allen is let go, Peterman probably starts.

C: Johnson, Gurode. Dallas will be a player in the LeCharles Bentley sweepstakes. Given the number of suitors for him, I am not expecting him to sign with Dallas. But Parcells has a history of giving big bucks to a young pro bowl center by the name of Kevin Mawae. He played well for a long time for the Jets. History may well repeat itself.

RG: Rivera and 2nd/3rd round draft pick. I expect Dallas to draft Oline in rounds 2 and/or 3. All spots along the line potentially could use some quality young blood.

RT: Jason Fabini (FA), Rob Petitti, Marc Columbo, Jacob Rogers, draft pick. As mentioned, Fabini will likely be signed to play RT. He was originally a Parcells' draftee with the Jets. Petitti and Columbo (former Bears 1st rounder) are developmental guys already on the roster. Jacob Rogers was Dallas' 2nd round pick 2 years ago. He was waived/injured last training camp after he elected for season ending surgury against the wishes of Parcells and Jones. He cleared waivers and so his rights revert back to Dallas. Since he is already on cap for ~$800K, he will get a shot to play again. He had to show some talent to get drafted in the 2nd, right? He was winning the RT spot last year before his surgury. He might surprise, but I wouldn't count on it. Lastly, as mentioned in the RG line, a first day draft pick or two is likely.

K: Longwell (FA), Vinatieri (FA), Matt Bryant (FA), Suisham. Jerry Jones has publicly stated that they want a veteran kicker. But they don't want to spend major bucks. Well, Longwell is an experienced guy who has kicked under pressure in bad weather. He is likely a step below Vinatieri in terms of price and is likely the primary target for Dallas. Vinatieri is a Parcells guy but is likely the most expensive FA kicker. Bryant is a more moderately priced FA. Suisham is the encumbent.

LDE: Spears, Coleman/Ratliff. Same combo as last year.

NT: Ferguson, (?), Thomas Johnson: The ? is either LaRoi Glover or a first day draft pick. Glover has publicly stated that he doesn't think that he will be back next year. Dallas has said that they want him. My read is that Dallas wants to trade him and get something in return for this multi-time pro bowl selection. A vet team close to making the superbowl like a Denver may see him as a missing piece and send Dallas a second or third rounder. Dallas then uses that pick on his replacement. Perhaps a guy like Dvoracek (sp) from Oklahoma. Gabe Watson is a potential first rounder if the OLBs are gone. Thomas Johnson is more of a 4-3 rush DT. This is the same role as Jay Ratliff, listed above as a DE. Johnson is under 300 lbs and is not a pure nosetackle. Getting a space eater to back up the over 30 Ferguson is a priority.

RDE: Canty, Ellis. Same combo as last year. Ellis, like Glover, has stated that he doesn't think he will be back next year. He is more suited for a 4-3. It would not surprise that he is traded, again, to a team like Denver. Now Dallas has stated that it wants to retain Ellis and that it wants to expand his role next year. We'll see.

LOLB: Carpenter/Lawson, Fujita. As I have discussed ad naseum in other threads, I expect Dallas to draft an OLB at pick 18. Manny Lawson and Bobby Carpenter are the most likely picks. If they don't take one in round 1, round 2 is likely with guys like Wimbley and Anderson. Fujita is a serviceable vet but is not an explosive playmaker. A reasonable backup/special teams guy. Al Singleton is still on the roster and may be retained. But he is coming off injury and is small for a 3-4. I expect him to be cut for salary cap purposes.

ILB: James, Burnett, Fowler, Shanle, draft pick. All but Burnett finished the year in 2005. James really emerged as a leader last year. Burnett was a 2nd rounder last year and struggled at OLB, particularly early. Parcells said that he would likely end up at ILB. With the retirement of Dat Nugyen, don't be surprised to see Burnett move inside this year. Now, he is coming off an ACL tear late in the season and likely won't be available until training camp. Fowler (run stuffer) and Shanle (nickle guy) are reasonable backups and good special teams guys.

ROLB: Ware, Kalen Thorton. Everybody knows about Ware. Thorton spent last season on IR with a knee. He made the team in 2004 as a nickle passrusher. He is a ~250 pound former DE who was competing with Ware before blowing out the knee in camp. He's back this year and should be an adequate backup. Ogbogu is another guy on last year's roster who could play here. He will likely be released.

CB: Newman, Henry, Glenn, Reeves. Very good depth here.

SS: Roy Williams, Justin Beriault. Beriault was a rookie 6th rounder last year who tore up training camp. He made a big impression. He is definitely a strong safety, though, not a free safety. He played "in the box" for much of his college career. He spent 2005 on IR after having microfracture surgury on his knee. Should be back in 2006 as a special teamer and backup to Roy.

FS: Keith Davis, Willie Pile. Many have speculated that this spot will be "upgraded" in 2006. Dallas gave up many long passes, with this spot being the primary blame. There were stretches, however, where these two played pretty well. Given the needs at other spots (Oline, LB, K, and NT), I would not be surprised if Dallas did not "upgrade" this spot. That's not to say that Dallas won't go after a FA like Corey Chavous, or draft a guy like Pat Watkins in the second. But given the other needs and stretches of solid play, I'm not as conviced as I once was that they address this spot for next year.

Looking at the team that played in 2005, the most glaring need is an upgrade to the tackle spot. This spot "held the team hostage" last year. Meaning they substantially had to alter their game planning around these spots. Dallas had to keep in TEs, use max-protect schemes, slide guards outside. Despite these moves, teams buried Dallas' offense late in the season. In the entire NFL, the two offensive linemen who gave up the most sacks last year were Rob Petitti and Torrin Tucker. Dallas' starting tackles at year end. Now, Dallas gets back multi-time pro bowler Flozell Adams at LT. And I expect Dallas to pick up Jason Fabini in free agency. I also expect at least one offensive lineman to be drafted on Day 1. Fixing this spot is the most critical offseason move that Dallas must make.

Not sure I can do it all in one shot, but I'll edit later to finish it:

New York Jets

----------------

QB: Pennington, Bollinger, Cutler (1st round pick)

RB: Martin, Houston, Blaylock

FB: Askew, some 5th or 6th round draft pick

WR: Coles, McCairens, Cotcherry, rookie, rookie

TE: Baker, Jolley, Dreesen

T: Jones, Gragg, Kavka, Winston (1st round rookie, pick from Denver for Abraham)

G: Moore, Goodwin, Morley, rookie

C: Mawae

DE: Ellis, Thomas, Johnson, 2nd-round rookie

DT: Robertson, Poahu, Reed

LB: Vilma, Barton, Hobson, Brown, Wright, rookie?

CB: Barret, Miller, Strait, rookie?

S: Rhodes, Coleman, Washington Maddox,

P: Graham

K: Nugent

KR: Miller, Cotcherry

PR: Miller

I don't expect any new starters to be signed, except possibly at QB, which is a giant crapshoot for the Jets right now. Maybe on the O-line or the DT spot.

Interestingly, at the Jets homepage, they have changed up the depth chart to reflect the switch to the 3-4. They are listing Abraham as the WILL, not a DE, among other things.

Updated the Chargers (post #20) with Bentley going to the Browns and McCree coming to visit SD.
