Post Your 2011 Rookie Draft (2 Viewers)

Had picks 1.01, 2.01, 3.01, 3.12, 4.01....took over a brutal team in a 12 team, PPR dynasty league, who had little to no talent on the roster of any sort besides Jason Witten, Donovan McNabb, Joe Addai, Pierre Garcon, Mario Manningham, and Marcedes Lewis. Start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1 FLEX

1.01 - Mark Ingram

2.01 - traded w/Montario Hardesty up for 1.06 - selected Mikel Leshoure

3.01 - dealt for Matt Cassel

3.12 - Christian Ponder

4.01 - Andy Dalton

Traded Pierre Garcon for 4.02, 4.04, and 4.06

4.02 - Colin Kaepernick

4.04 - Austin Pettis

4.06 - Johnny White

I realize drafting 3 QBs is probably nuts. But this whole draft was about trying to gain some assets I could use later to build this roster, which is empty of talent. Getting Cassel gets me a legitimate NFL backup, which I desperately needed. Ingram and Leshoure give me some sort of backfield.

Didn't love dealing Garcon but his hands are meh, he's a fungible receiver, and by the time my team is any good Manning will have regressed and/or Indy will have drafted or signed more WR help. I wanted the lottery tickets.

This is the first dynasty I've ever done, and started with a nothing team. Maybe too tantalized by rookie talent, but I have very few chips to play with.

I like loading up on rookie QBs in the 3rd and 4th  If any of those guys turns into a QB1, you more than made up for your investment. But trading for Cassel when you're rebuilding  We know what Cassel's upside is. Having an okay backup when you're rebuilding can be a detriment - wastes a roster spot and could make you the 11th best instead of 12th.

Couple of picks made by the auto-drafter by one team which were terrible...

I didnt have 2.10 as I traded it last year along with Pierre Thomas for Miles Austin.

This is a NON PPR league 32 team IDP Dynasty. A lot of teams that had high draft picks were hurting at QB. Which works well for me. Because I owned picks 2 and 10. And got Ingram (1.2) and Williams (1.10)

This is the first 10 picks so far

#1(PHI)- PANTHERS-AJ Green(CIN-WR)

#2(KC)- JAGUARS-Mark Ingram(NO-RB)

#3(STL)- PANTHERS-Julio Jones(ATL-WR)

#4(CIN)- COLTS-Blaine Gabbert(JAX-QB)

#5(NO)- PANTHERS-Jake Locker(TEN-QB)

#6(NYJ)- PANTHERS-Daniel Thomas(MIA-RB)

#7(BUF)- BILLS-Christian Ponder(MIN-QB)

#8(MIA)- CHIEFS-Cam Newton(CAR-QB)

#9(CHI)- CARDINALS-Andy Dalton(CIN-QB)

#10(DET)- JAGUARS-Ryan Williams(ARI-RB)

(And I own Reggie Bush and Chris Wells. So to get Ingram and Williams I was like :headbang: :pickle:

12 team ppr. All td's 6 pts. 25 man rosters. Draft 4 rounds of rookies/fa's and then have 4 player cut down 1 wk prior to start of regular season.

Start 1qb, 2rb, 2wr,1te, 1d/st, 1k

My team before draft:

Iron City

QB B. Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco

RB: A. Foster, J. Charles, DeAngelo W., Knowshon M., and T. Choice

WR: Mike Wallace, Mike Willams TB, Mike Williams Sea, Steve Smith Car, Breaston, Mike Sims-Walker, James Jones, Eric Decker, Danario Alexander, Jerome Simspon

TE: Tony Gonzales, J. Finley, Jimmy Graham, Aaron Hernandez

K: Josh Brown

D/ST: Chargers, Texans, Bucs

I originally had picks #8,9,12,16,33,40

Just prior to draft, traded picks 8,9,16,33 for #1 and 24.

During draft, traded Gonzo and James Jones for #32, and later traded Breaston for #34.

So here are the picks I actually made:

# 1. WR A.J. Green

#12 QB Blaine Gabber ( a bit of a reach but had him as my #1 qb and wanted to stay out in front of a run)

#24 RB Bilal Powell (again a bit of a reach, but was ready to start stock piling decent prospects for future)

#32 RB Tawain Jones (my least favorite pick of the draft. This was me taking a desperation swing for the fences after an unexpected let down. Vincent Brown went at #31 and I was thinking I would have gotten him instead, which was a player I really wanted bad. I really thought Brown would still be there at #32 when I chose Powell at #24. Anyway, my thinking is if the Raiders let Bush go via free agency, maybe I can catch lightening in a bottle with a lesser version of Chris Johnson behind DMC and then DMC gets a bit banged up and they give TJ some carries. My gut tells me I wasted the pick and more than likely got a combine workout wonder that is like the Steelers Dwight Stone circa 1980's )

#34 RB Dion Lewis (When he was on the board after my #32 pick, I knew I had to swoop in and get him. The L. McCoy owner was picking at #36, so I figured what the heck, let me see if I can get him as I was always high on him. Traded Breaston for the pick and was lucky to get him).

#40 RB Johnny White (at this point, I am throwing what are considered to be good rb prospects up against the wall to see which will stick. I am not convinced that Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller are long term answers for the Bills and White may be able to nudge one of them out of the way).

#41 RB Chad Spann (after taking 4 rb's, why not buy a lotto ticket on a player Waldman has drawn comparisons to A. Bradshaw and Priest Holmes).

All in all, not bad. I would have liked to get another decent WR but think that I have a decent enough stable with the addition of AJ Green, which permitted me to shift to a strategy of loading up on promising but "under the radar" rb's. Only time will tell. I can post the entire draft if anybody thinks it is worthwhile.

Not a rookie draft, but a rookie auction.... Keep in mind for those not really familiar with auctions that price value is not always representative of true value. Timing of nomination and who is left on the board make a huge difference. PPR league, Start 1 QB/1 RB/1 WR/1 TE/3 FLEX/1 K/1 DEF.

I had the 1.01/2.01/3.01, as well as trading for a late 1st/2nd/3rd to give myself more auction money. I sold out for Ingram, because in a format where you only have to start 1 RB, I like the idea of having a steady force like Ingram there. In this format I shoot for starting 4 WR's, and I love Cobb and Little in a PPR format.

Hunter at 1.11 seems really high to me... is it a handcuff or a mancrush?
His ADP has risen the past few weeks. In most drafts he's now going late first, or early second. Over-reaction to SF GM praising him as being much more than a 3rd-down back. Almost as strong as the love for Dixon a year ago, who is now on many waiver wires.

I tried trading for the 1.01 & 1.04 picks but no go. I had picks 2,3,5 & 6. I also have 2.03 & 2.04, since I have Gore I'm hoping Hunter is still there in the 2nd for me. My picks were.

1.02- WR A.J. Green

1.03- WR Julio Jones

1.05- RB Daniel Thomas

1.06- RB Ryan Williams

I needed WR help and got the best 2 in Green & Jones so I'm happy about that. I just figured Thomas & Williams might get the opportunity to be the starter and I guess that's all I can ask for. Hopefully at least one of these 2 RB's succeed.

After selecting Murray, DeMarco DAL RB ® :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
For full context see the Bloom 100
I was at what you said not the pick.

I tried trading for the 1.01 & 1.04 picks but no go. I had picks 2,3,5 & 6. I also have 2.03 & 2.04, since I have Gore I'm hoping Hunter is still there in the 2nd for me. My picks were.1.02- WR A.J. Green1.03- WR Julio Jones1.05- RB Daniel Thomas1.06- RB Ryan WilliamsI needed WR help and got the best 2 in Green & Jones so I'm happy about that. I just figured Thomas & Williams might get the opportunity to be the starter and I guess that's all I can ask for. Hopefully at least one of these 2 RB's succeed.
I assume Ingram went 1.1, but who went 1.4?

1ST ROUND

#1(PHI)- PANTHERS-AJ Green(CIN-WR)

#30(SF)- EAGLES-DeMarco Murray(DAL-RB)

#31(ATL)- FALCONS-Aldon Smith SF-DL

#32(IND)- JAGUARS-Shane Vereen (NE-RB)

So I got Ingram with the no 2 pick and Ryan Williams with the no 10 pick. And somehow Vereen fell to the no 32 pick and I traded Reggie Bush and Antonio Brown to go pick Vereen at 32. (Talk about a steal)

I believe a lot of us look at Baldwin as a high bust prospect. He sure looked the part in a lot of games last year, especially the bowl game against Kentucky.

True. I can see taking leshore, Williams and even vareen over Baldwin if you have a need but not these 3 guys who have only the very slightest chance at anything. These players are not close, not evenly remotely close in talent.

They both went early allowing me to grab Baldwin and Cobb, but in that league RB's get 1.5 PPR and WR's get 1 PPR.

Rotoworld draft

In-Progress Dynasty League Draft

The usual start of training camps is under two months away. We have no idea if 16 games will be played, but are confident there will be an NFL season in some form.

And that means fantasy football will continue in 2011.

Over the course of the next several days, I'll document live a Dynasty League draft in this space. I traded my first-round pick last year, but have two second-rounders. This draft began on Friday morning.

It's a PPR league with 12 owners. We keep as many members of our 40-man rosters as we want, and are able to draft rookies as well as free agents available on the waiver wire.

FIRST ROUND

1.1. Falcons WR Julio Jones

1.2. Saints RB Mark Ingram

1.3. Bengals WR A.J. Green

1.4. Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas

1.5. Browns WR Greg Little

1.6. Cardinals RB Ryan Williams

1.7. Lions RB Mikel Leshoure

1.8. Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin

1.9. Jets RB Bilal Powell

1.10. Colts RB Delone Carter

1.11. Rotoworld (via trade with Fantasy Sharks) - Redskins RB Roy Helu

1.12. Panthers QB Cam Newton

UPDATE: With RotoExperts taking their time at No. 6 overall, I've begun trade talks with Matt Williamson of ESPN Scouts Inc. Williamson won the league as a first-timer last year -- his first experience ever with a dynasty league -- although he doesn't have a single draft pick this year in the first or second round.

Williamson is loaded with running backs, owning Jamaal Charles, Steven Jackson, and Ahmad Bradshaw. He also has Tashard Choice, Justin Forsett, and Ricky Williams.

He expressed interest in Bernard Scott. I want Jamaal Charles. My standing offer is Scott, Greg Jennings OR Vincent Jackson, my pick at 2.3, and my 2012 first-round pick for Charles. Let me know what you think in the comments.

UPDATE II: Williamson wants Calvin Johnson.

UPDATE III: Here is a link to all the rosters in the league. And here is a link to the "official" draft page.

UPDATE IV: Commenter Dustin scoured the league's rosters and discovered that one in particular, owned by FFXtreme, is short on receivers (A declining Reggie Wayne is WR1, Brandon Lloyd WR2, Jerome Simpson/Anthony Armstrong WR3) but rich in running backs (Arian Foster, Chris Johnson, Michael Turner). My predicament is the opposite. So I've proposed FFXtreme the following trade:

I get:

Foster

He gets:

Greg Jennings

Picks 2.3 & 2.12

Now let's see if he bites.

UPDATE V: I've received the following offer from Fantasy Sharks:

I get:

Picks 1.11, 7.2, 8.2 this year

He gets:

My 2012 first-round pick.

Let me know whether I should consider it in the comments.

UPDATE VI: My initial reaction to Fantasy Sharks' trade proposal for my 2012 first-round pick was negative. I thought Roy Helu would go before Carter and Powell because, well, Helu is more talented than both and has the clearest path to playing time. I probably would've taken Helu ahead of Baldwin, not only because my roster is rich on receivers, but because Helu's fantasy ceiling is higher.

I accepted the trade because I believe in Roy Helu. I studied him as much as any player leading up to the draft, and considered him the fourth best running back in the 2011 class. Shanahan backfields can be unpredictable, but in my opinion Helu is easily the best tailback talent in D.C. and will win the lead back job early in the season, if not before it.

Jamaal Charles remains in the crosshairs, however.

UPDATE VII: Okay, I just got a flurry of trade action, and executed two deals, one with Pro Football Focus and one with ESPN/Scouts Inc.'s Matt Williamson. Here's the sum of both deals. (More in the morning.):

I gave up:

Greg Jennings

Kevin Kolb

Bernard Scott

Joe McKnight

Chris Ivory

Pick 2.12

I received:

Steven Jackson

Matt Schaub

Robert Meachem

Rex Grossman (will be dropped)

SECOND ROUND

2.1. Bucs LB Mason Foster

2.2. Broncos LB Nate Irving

2.3. Rotoworld - Patriots RB Shane Vereen

2.4. Packers WR Randall Cobb

2.5. 49ers RB Kendall Hunter

2.6. Rams WR Austin Pettis*

2.7. Ravens WR Torrey Smith

2.8. FF.com let clock expire

2.9. Redskins WR Leonard Hankerson

2.10. Packers RB Alex Green

2.11. Saints LB Martez Wilson

2.12.

RD 2 UPDATE I: After bolstering the top of my running back depth chart last night, I felt it necessary to add depth with the selection of Shane Vereen. An excellent pass-catching back whose versatility was likely one of the main reasons he appealed to Bill Belichick, Vereen currently looks like the long-term favorite for touches in New England. My expectations obviously aren't for Vereen to be a fantasy starter in year one, but he was the 56th overall pick in the 2011 draft and should prove valuable in a PPR format.

RD 2 UPDATE II: RotoExperts caused the holdup at No. 6 overall, and have now allowed the eight-hour clock to expire on their second-round pick. They'll be allowed to select a player for 2.6 whenever they get around to it. Meantime, FF.com wasted to time getting in their selection of Torrey Smith. I'm still surprised that a certain wide receiver is available.

RD 2 UPDATE III: * = RotoExperts got their pick in after the timer expired, and it's Rams third-round pick Austin Pettis.

THIRD ROUND

3.1.

3.2.

3.3. Rotoworld -

3.4.

3.5.

3.6.

3.7.

3.8.

3.9.

3.10.

3.11.

3.12.

Im not sure who is more underrrated in rookie drafts, Shane Vereen or Titus Toung. I know one thing, 2010 was a good year to win a championship. Not only do you win your league, but you can get Vereen with your 1st round rookie pick, and Young with your 2nd. I would consider either/both of these guys with any pick after the top 3.

hahayeah he meant to take Locker but was picking from phone. He posted right away he wanted Locker and commish made the waiver exchange for Locker but Ainge is left in draft forever!

I'm in rebuilding mode after adopting an orphaned team and made a few moves to get extra picks. Still some work to do but I'm happy with my draft. I had Leshoure as my #1 RB and Hankerson as my #1 WR for rookies (yes, I realize many will call me a crack head) so I was stoked to get both of them. I like Hunter's chances to spell Gore this year and take the reigns completely within the next couple of years. Fannin was a major swing for the fences hoping he's this year's Blount but my mancrush overcame any sort of rational judgement with my last pick.

Wow some surprising picks... Two QB league?

Wow Leshoure going earlier than Williams... Probably handcuff

12 Team IDP My picks are bolded

1.04 Von DEN LB ®

2.11 Matthews, Clay GBP LB
Seems strange...?
While Matthews had plenty of sacks he only finished with 56 total tackles. It's a tackle heavy league and we only start 1LB 1DB 1DL and 1 Flex. But I do agree with Miller being picked way too high. Even in my larger IDP leagues I would never select a LB that high. In my experience its too easy to assemble a solid defense with later picks and waiver moves to ever waste such a valuable pick on an IDP.
