This is an awesome forum post and let me tell you why. Not only do you get to see all these drafts to see how people value players you can see how the rookies stack up so if your thinking about trading a player for Mathews or Dez Bryant ect you can see what it should take.

I am thinking about starting up a 2nd dyansty league as well. I have been running my CFL one since 1997 but only having 1 makes it tough because if there are players you want sometimes people will not give them up but being in a 2nd one would make it much easier to get who you want.

I have a question. For all of you starting a dynasty league do any of you use salary cap/contracts ? I have been doing mine since 1997 and if you check out my rosters page you can see they all have these salary's and contracts and it gets tough sometimes I have found myself trading players year after year just to make the salary cap. I traded out Palmer this year and looking to deal Boldin now to make this year's cap. Traded Hines Ward a few years ago, Steven Davis before that.

http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2010/o...=37477&O=07

I would like to know how others do their salary's/contracts and how it compares to mine.

Sometimes I wish I didn't have this because I hate being forced to trade players but sometimes it works out fine the pick I got for Ward turned into Charles.

Still frustarting to keep turing over your roster when you don't want to.
The dynasties I have played have never had salary cap or contract years. You change your roster through trades, waiver wire pickups, and the rookie draft.Wouldnt be opposed to playing the salary cap/contract leagues but I guess I dont really see the point to limit it with caps or contracts.....seems like like a deep keeper that way.

DEZ BRYANT AT #8 OVERALL? I am all for getting your guy, but trade down or wait a round (at least)!
That would be me sir. Well sitting at 8 was a bad spot imo...the top 4 runners were gone as well as AJ Calvin and Fitz. I went into the draft wanting to land AJ and Dez together. I thought very seriously about moving down and tried but was weary of teams sitting at 2.01 and 2.02 of nabbing him before i could. After i made the pick teams holding the 1.11 and another at 2.02 said Dez was there pick. In a startup to me you have to get your guy, or you probably never will. Some guys hold some players for ever and its so hard to try and trade for them even if you overpaying, so i rather overdraft him and get him then. I knew i would have to cover that pick up with landing a very good vet which i did with R.Moss in the late 5th. I doubt you see him go this high in other league but i also dont think you will see him going in the 4th range anymore as we get more into TC. The more and more film and data on this guy will only raise his ADP. I also want to add i drafted Calvin in a fbg/staff league @ 2.01 as the 1st wr off the board. I was VERY high on his prospects and value and i never regretted that move. F&L has Dez at wr9. That pretty high, but when i look at whats after the big 3, i think Dez has more potential than them (Vjax/Roddy/Austin/Jennings/Djax) So i will go out on a limb for a player that i think has potential to be in a elite stud tier like AJ/Calvin. My team thru 16 rounds. We start 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1FLEX 1K 1DEFPlayer YTD Pts Bye Drafted Kolb, Kevin PHI QB - 8 6.11 Roethlisberger, Ben PIT QB (O) - 5 9.05 Stafford, Matthew DET QB (P) - 7 8.11 Best, Jahvid DET RB ® - 7 3.08 McGahee, Willis BAL RB - 8 13.08 Stewart, Jonathan CAR RB (P) - 6 2.05 Tomlinson, LaDainian NYJ RB - 7 14.05 Bryant, Dez DAL WR ® - 4 1.08 Hester, Devin CHI WR - 8 9.08 Heyward-Bey, Darrius OAK WR - 10 12.05 Knox, Johnny CHI WR - 8 9.09 Moss, Randy NEP WR - 5 5.08 Thomas, Devin WAS WR - 9 8.05 Wallace, Mike PIT WR - 5 6.08 Keller, Dustin NYJ TE - 7 9.06 Eagles, Philadelphia PHI Def - 8 15.08 did pick up a high future pick as well in trades but i like my core right now.

I'd question selecting Reggie Wayne at #9 before I'd question the selection of Dez at #8......

I would question both. But Wayne has more value than Dez, even in dynasty leagues, in my opinion. Wrs have a pretty big bust rate and Dez will have to really earn his looks. I don't take fliers with my first pick in a startup draft. The owner has designated himself to "rebuilding" with his very first pick.

How much better do you think he will be than Michael Crabtree and Sidney Rice, who both went 1 to 2 rounds later? Not only do I think their talent levels are close, they are both more proven and don't have other top WRs to battle with. I see what you are saying with Dez being a potential stud. But you drafted a potential stud, where proven studs should be drafted. Just my opinion, with doens't amount to much. :lmao:

I swung for alot of upside but i made a very costly move IMO, and thats where i traded my 4th rounder for a future 1st and a couple of move up in the 9th round area. Should have just grabbed my choice of Felix/P.Thomas or Vernon Davis there. Made a bad quick judgement call with me rushing to go to work. As for the Moss pick....well i knew going in if i did decide to grab DEZ 1st i would need some very good production guys to "cover him up" sort of speak. Moss was nearly a 6th rounder...and i mean...this for a wr who could very well post some ridiculous numbers. He was taken to be my starter wr1. Its pretty meh....after that but with Dez Wallace D.Thomas and the Chi wr's im thinking i can get some wr2/3 action. But i always build my 1st startup teams young and or for value (trade value). I highly doubt the team looks the same when the season opens. Just sharing my views.....its a very uncommon odd view of drafting but by my years of drafting and even trading experience, you have to be agressive in you technique. And im just that way, not only grabbing the best rooks very early put you in a wierd position, it could very well be beneficial when the other owners feel they may not get there guy/s and start grabbing there young guys leaving great older value guys to slide. That way you get the young guy you want for sure and even get some great value on older value plays. These guys in this draft was pretty sharp though.

DEZ BRYANT AT #8 OVERALL? I am all for getting your guy, but trade down or wait a round (at least)!
:lmao:
No we all on here for opinions/views. And yes i knew i would get some flack from many with this style of drafting. But let me better help you understand "why" it was necessary. Ok, this for one is a FBG filled league with many of the

owners i currently play with and been playing with. They know me just as well as i know them and we have already participated

in many rookie drafts together. And even bounced traded back and forth, so i know the value standpoint for those that i play with.

Yes FBG has there dynasty ranking and F&L have his....that #### goes out the window when you drafting with guys and you know how

they operate. Ok back to DEZ, just from looking at the highlights and choppin it up with the COWBOYS FAN in the league me and him

gushed over DEZ from his TC highlights. I mean probowl corners have said he could very well be the best wr on the cowboys and one of the best in the league,

ROY also says the same things...but screw that, just from looking from my own eyes and also his body of work in college, i see another AJ/TO/BOLDIN type of wr.

One that I WANT!! So thats why i grabbed him. Funny thing is that NOT just me but a few others wanted him very soon...just about that high....so he wasnt falling to no

mid 2nd in this league whatsoever. Should i just taken...ugh...lets say Wayne and be happy with it? How about Vjax? Roddy? Meh...sorry i can point out issues with them

just as well as not being a surefire guy going foward. Does Dez seem more talented to me than them.....YES...and easily YES.

Alright back to this wierd draft of mines. Did you guys happen to notice i picked up J.Stewart with my 2nd rounder....hmmmm, this same Stewart who is going in alot of leagues

as the #5 or #6 rb behind the big 4. The same Stewart who is getting picked in the 1st round in some drafts. So....what if you flip-floped my picks? Still looks bad? I guess its all depends on how you want to skin a cat. There is many ways. You could chance it and not get guys you really want and get the guys who is ranked to go where you are drafting by the masses or you could take another approach. I think landing DEZ STEWART and J.BEST in any order is a good way for me to build my foundation.

But while my team is freakin awesome on paper...in this league most teams are very well balenced.

I'm just givin you crap Reg, I appreciate owners that go out and get "their guys". I think your strategy is rounding out more as the draft rolls on. I love lookin a FBG start-ups cause it gives me a great idea of where guys should be going. I wish there was this kind of forum back in 1997 when I had my initial dynasty start up draft. I still have that draft in a notebook and sometimes look at it and wonder what was I thinking on some of the picks made. So many things go into drafting a new dynasty start up team.

Does anyone have a link to the 2009 dynasty start up drafts thread ? I would be really interested to see where the Slaton's, Ray Rice's, Miles Austin's of the world went last year. Things can change on a dime it really is amazing. Can you imagine drafting Forte/Slaton as your top 2 players last year.

Also is there anywhere that has the avg drafting positions on dynasty start up leagues for players ?

I know you can easily find avg draft position for redraft leagues but I would really be interested in seeing the avg draft position from all the dyansty leagues combined somehwere.

PPR/IDP - QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 KOffensive Draft only...defensive one after....some trades involved 2011 rookie picks and or defensive picks. My team is Chicago Rampage
I like Brees in the 3rd a lot better than Aaron Rodgers in the first.

Awesome. Thanks. I could not believe 1 of the drafts. Slaton went 7th and Boldin went 22nd. Man I wish I had traded them last year. This year I can't get a wooden nickel for them. Someone took LT in the 2nd round of a start up last year ? What was that person thinking.

ETA: Ouch. This one is all sorts of brutal. Forte at 2. Picks 14 through 22 all look pretty bad in hindsight too.

I just seen that 1 too...would have been funnier if I didn't own Slaton in my only dynasty league I play in...but it was still funny. The reason I was wanting to look all these up was because I have been trying to move Boldin in my dynasty league and the most anyone is offering is a 2nd round rookie pick this year. I think it is crazy to see a guy who in almost every single 2009 start up dynasty draft go in the 2nd round (and even in the 1st round #11 overall in one of them) could fall off the face of the earth that fast for a guy in his prime and is now a #1 WR on a good team with a good young QB with a solid #2 WR opposite of him.

I mean I can understand why Slaton, LT, Forte, Portis ect have fallen off a cliff for value but Boldin goes from 2nd round pick to worth a wooden nickel ?

Wow after looking at some of those 2009 drafts I am almost afraid to do a start up league. So many monster busts from the 1st few rounds. Too many old RB's taken too early those teams are now going to pay for a long long time. Ray Rice, Charles, Miles Austin super amazing steals.

Rice going in the 6th-9th rounds last year and I seen Austin as low as round 24.

How about this classic gem from the same cat after taking Jermichael Finley at 2.08 in a startup a few weeks ago"Surprise Fooooooools!.....Heeeeheeheeeeeehee"

Awesome. Thanks. I could not believe 1 of the drafts. Slaton went 7th and Boldin went 22nd. Man I wish I had traded them last year. This year I can't get a wooden nickel for them. Someone took LT in the 2nd round of a start up last year ? What was that person thinking.

Oh good lord that doesn't make me feel good about having Finley in my dynasty league. He already jinxed Slaton now he does it to Finely!

My team is the colts, traded my first rounder away seemed to work out great!!!!
How in the world does Calvin fall to 2.06 ? Stewart fall to 3.05 and Marshall to 3.07, Greene to 5.06, Sidney Rice to 5.07 ?????????????????????There is no way in the world then to top it all off Dez Bryant 5th rookie picked ???????????????????????????????????????

How in the world can this be a real league ? There is no league in the world that has Calvin outside the 1st round in a dyansty league.

Marshall and Stewart in the 3rd ???????????????

Josh Cribbs was drafted ahead of Moss, SSmith, Holmes, Witten, Finley, and Clark. That should tell you how relevant that draft is lol...

The funny thing is the same guy got all 5 players. At least the league has one owner who knoes what they are doing.

The return yard points obviously play a part here - DJAX was WR2 in this format last year, Harvin 8th & Cribbs 14th.....I'm not saying the draft should have been THIS different then most but that obviously went into the drafting. Also, it's IDP & the scoring there had Willis & Beason with a pretty decent edge in PPG it looks like over even LB12, so I can see them going early too. It's a different type of league then we usually see here so I wouldn't use it as a reference (or get so freaked out by it) unless you happen to play in a similar scored league (which I don't)....

Here's the dynasty auction that I'm currently in - I'm the Chargers. We start 1 x QB, 2 x RB, 2 x WR, 1 x TE, 2 x RB/WR/TE, 1 PN, 1 PK, 2-4 DL, 2-4 LB, 2-4 DB. Scoring is pretty std on offense, PPR (1.2 for TE) and varied per position for IDPs. Return yds are also included. First auction I've been in so would be interested to hear thoughts.

How did you guys get to be able to draft ***Rookie 1.01 pk*** ?I mean how is that set up by the commish to be able to draft that way ?

I would like to know how it is done.

Thanks.
Looks like the commish just entered in custom players with the name "Rookie 1.01 pick", "Rookie 1.02 pick", etc.
or maybe because the draft was before the NFL draft the site had slots for those ?If they were custom entered what sucks about the site it won't allow you to merge or delete a custom player.

I see other sites draft yahoo players no one ever heard of then post in comment "rookie 1.01"

16 Team PPR, 1qb, 2-3 RB, 3-4 WR, 1TE, 1PK, 1DST

Some of these guys are new to FF (it explains some of the very strange choices). My team is the Buckeyes.

I should have stopped reading when I saw Carson Palmer at 1.16......but I stayed with it until the Jets at 2.07...that is a JOKE
That was a mistake pick. I gave the guy to change it but he didn't get back to me for like 5 days. Rather than revert the draft I let him pick from the remaining players. He took Sidney Rice instead and I dropped the Jets D. I had a total WTF moment with a number of those picks.
