potential/injuries when voting on a trade (1 Viewer)

houston

Footballguy
Commish in a 12 team league.

When evaluating trades, I wonder how you guys deal with injuries (like Vick), or potential for slow starting stars(guys like Ray Rice).

Should records of teams involved matter? Should a trade between 4-0 and 0-4 teams be looked at differently?

I won't bore with the details with particular trade here (i'll put in asst coach), but struggling with how to view trade values.

We do have a 3 person trade committee so we get a variety of opinions, but still tough when there are so many variables.

No reason it's any of your business. Push it through. Players come back from injuries early, other players continue to slump until the season is over and you realize they were a bust...it's up to them how they value the players and whether they can afford to take the gamble.

If the trade is at all questionable then you let it stand. Period. No other anaylsis needed.

If it's so bad that no reasonable player (doesn't have to be a shark) could say, "I'll take that gamble" then consider voting against the trade.

You are suggesting that you have to put a decent amount of thought into managing someone else's team. I'd respectfully suggest that just the opposite is needed. The trade needs to SCREAM unfairness.

+1

And even if a trade SCREAMS unfair... the commish should allow the trading parties to explain their reasoning of how they believe they're improving their team. The key is their belief... even if you don't agree with their reasoning, if they are making the move with the intention of getting better, regardless of how you or the other owners in the league perceive the value of the players, you allow the trade.

Do not manage other owners teams based on your perception of player value.

I was previously unaware that your triumverate of Tripe. :lmao: In that case i would multiply the players avg ppg / the % injured. Ie probable gets 75% of his stats, doubtful gets 25%, though if the coach is traditionally known to lie about injuries this factor can be tweaked and adjusted if needed. We find it makes these decisions a lot easier when we try and shoot down creative trades made by the mouth breaters we play with.

Repeat with me:

I WILL NEVER, NEVER, EVER EVER REQUIRE A VOTE TO APPROVE TRADES.

I WILL NEVER, NEVER, EVER EVER REQUIRE A VOTE TO APPROVE TRADES.

I WILL NEVER, NEVER, EVER EVER REQUIRE A VOTE TO APPROVE TRADES.

I WILL NEVER, NEVER, EVER EVER REQUIRE A VOTE TO APPROVE TRADES.

I WILL NEVER, NEVER, EVER EVER REQUIRE A VOTE TO APPROVE TRADES.

Please don't do this. Unless you are playing with 12 yr olds...

Obviously, this guy is playing in one of those socialist leagues where they work hard to ensure that everyones' a winner.

Take it easy on him....I think he should try his best to predict the future, and if he feels that he knows what is best for everybody, he can veto the trade, because after all, he is the almighty commish and he surely knows what is best for all of the others...rest easy,he will certainly save the day...we can't have any of those pesky owners thinking for themselves could we?

VIVA OBAMA!!!!!!

There's no mathematical formula to determine player value and the effect of injuries. Not sure what you want to hear, just use your head.

1) Does your league have trade rules?

2) If so, any trade that is legal is GOOD

3) ONLY if collusion should a commissioner get involved in a trade

4) Teams in a league should NEVER vote on every trade.......should there be a problem with a trade regarding the rules/interpretation/collusion it should be handled by an impartial committee of three owners (commish being one unless he is one of the teams in the trade)

In my 10 team money league, one of the owners took Addai with the 9th pick. Looking back at his numbers the last few years, that was sort of a dumb move. The commish never should have let him make that pick!!!

In my 12 teamer, MJD, because of all those pesky injury rumors, fell to 1.11. Not fair! The commish should have stepped in right away and made whoever was drafting at 6 take him since there is no way he should have fell that far.

If a trade is viewed as bad enough it needs to be reviewed for collusion, I'd have the two owners submit an explanation of why they believe the trade helps their team, and why they felt what they got was fair market value for the players. Then all you're deciding on is whether you think their explanation is something that a reasonable person could believe. Not whether they are right or wrong, whether the trade is good or bad.
