PPR - Should RB/WR/TE really get points for catches (1 Viewer)

Fight The Power!
Has anyone modified their PPR so that no backs or receivers get a point per reception if they don't gain any yardage?

Just curious.

Should RBs get credit for picking up 10 yards on a draw play on third and 20?

Don't micro-manage. Fantasy points are not always aligned with meaningful game results.

No, but the merits of PPR as a whole has been discussed frequently on this board.

I have put forward the suggestion that, instead of PPR, a yardage multiplier should be used for first down plays. Example:

RB: 10 rush, 50 yards broken up to be 5 rushes resulting in first downs for total of 25 yards (x 3 multiplier) and 5 for 25 not resulting in first downs = 100 yards worth of points = typically 10 points

WR: 2 rec, 50 yards both resulting in first downs (x 3 multiplier) = 150 yards worth of points = typically 15 points

Since the yards per catch for a receiver is usually 2-4 times that of the yards per carry for a running back, they get more of their yardage rewarded by the multiplier, having the desired effect of increasing WR fantasy scoring to be competitive with RBs. This places proper value on important plays (first downs) and does away with rewarding meaningless stats like receptions. It also makes big-play threats more valuable in fantasy than short-yardage possession or 3rd-and-1 types of players, which better reflects their value on the field.

:goodposting: and end of story.I have engaged in many of these debates over the years. PPR vs non PPR, 6 Pt passing TDs vs 4, and many other FF rule preferences. I have yet to have my mind changed on any of the rules I prefer and doubt that I have changed anyone elses despite my compelling arguments.Bottom line is find the scoring systems that YOU like and play in those leagues. At the end of the day, no matter what the scoring system is it's not going to perfectly align with meaningful real football results. It just isnt.Accept that and have fun with whatever scoring system you enjoy the most.

Your whole league plays under the same rules as you...... /thread

Why shouldn't they? Should RBs not get credit for yardage when they run for 1 yard on 3rd and 2?Just because the play did not convert to a first down, these plays still netted positive yardage, unlike in the OP's example.

Hawk leagues would have the scoring set so that - yards = - points. The ppr is separate in and of itself. :goodposting:
That's the standard in most leagues I've played in - negative yards = negative points. As for the PPR angle, I like PPR for RBs as though it makes some of the elite backs who are involved in the passing game that much more valuable, it also makes for potential flex starters in guys like Earnest Graham where benches are shallow. For that reason, I'd be willing to still grant points for receptions for 0 or negative yards, but adjust it to be, say, 0.25 rather than a full 0.5.
