Hey Guys,

Preseason is one time of the year when TV access to games is very limited. But most games are shown in their local markets.

If you can watch a preseason game, you can be a hero for the board and let us know what you see.

Please Note: Assume with these preseason game threads that the other people in the thread aren't watching the game. Normally, these threads are full of "nice catch" posts and that's cool because everyone is watching and everyone knows what you mean. But for these, please tell us more specifically what you're seeing as if we can't see the game.

Please focus on the things that won't show up in the box score.

- who got time with the starters

- how they looked

- body language on the sidelines

That kind of stuff. Basically, post the kind of stuff you'd like to know about a game that you are not able to watch.

Thanks.

J

I will be watching this one with a close eye. Some specifics I wioll be looking at

1. Samie Parker - does Green look his way and whats the communication like.

2. Kyle Turley vs. Mario Williams - That will most likely be the matchup when KC has the ball. Nice battle between #1 overall and a guy who is fighting to protect TG's rear.

3. The KC safeties - rookies Jarrad Page and bernard Pollard. I have a gut feeling one or both could start this season. I want to see how they play coming out.

I will be looking at others, but thats the main three things.

1st play roll out pass completed to Moulds on the sideline.

2nd play completion underneath to Moulds

Carr's not looking stellar. fumbles the snap on 4th and 1 but manages to fall forward and get it.

So far...

- Antowain Smith looks very average

- Carr is still forcing things and needs to settle down

- Carr is looking Moulds' way a lot (the one time he threw at AJ he threw into double coverage and should have been picked)

- Lundy seems to have good vision as a returner

Lundy looks great thus far, both returning and carrying the ball. He has nice vision with this blocking scheme.

Regardless any "who's the better back?" talk...Kubiak has really turned this O around. Lundy has had some HUGE holes. Any RB in this system should produce very good numbers.

Blogger storyRookie safeties Bernard Pollard and Jarrad Page — in some ways the sensations of training camp — might be at the very top of that list.“Page and Pollard are obviously going to play more than our starters,” Edwards said. “Those poor guys are going to have to play for four quarters. They’re never going to take their helmets off except to rest, and they’re not going to get much rest. They know that.”In that sense, tonight’s game should be a taste of things to come. It’s not difficult to envision Page and Pollard as the Chiefs’ eventual starting safeties. The question is when. So far, they haven’t been able to beat out the incumbents, Greg Wesley and Sammy Knight. But if they play in the preseason the way they have in training camp, that day can’t be far off, particularly given Edwards’ affinity for young players.Page has been the defensive playmaker of camp by scooting all over the field to intercept or break up passes. Pollard has shown a taste for physical play, something the Chiefs believed they lacked in their secondary.“(Page) is out here making plays,” tight end Tony Gonzalez said. “Bernard’s out here making plays.“But I’ve been around this game long enough that I’ve seen guys come in and light it up in practice. They look good in shorts and even in pads out here, but as soon as the lights come on and they start selling popcorn and hot dogs, it’s a different story. We’ll see how it goes in these preseason games.”The Chiefs suspect that the rookie safeties are the real thing. Both players showed signs of it during offseason practice in Kansas City, so they aren’t completely surprised that they are pushing for playing time.

For the Chiefs...

- LJ looks decent. His line is showing a bit of the downgrade as he's having to fight for more of his yards than in the past.

- Green is only looking at Kennison as a receiver thus far

LJ up the middle for 11, nice hole there.

Samie Parker with a HUGE block on a dumpoff to LJ

Dee Brown in now

I've been eager to see Printers play since the day he signed way back in Feb or March. I think this kid has real talent and a very good chance to be Green's successor ahead of Brodie Croyle.

Lundy shows some nice moves on a 15 yard run. I'm a little impressed. Running the ball he looks very similar to DD. Very similar builds

KC is the worst in the league at defending the bootleg. Plummer kills them twice a year with this nonsense. Kubiak is just expoiting a weakness he's taken advantage of for years.

Carr still looks almost mechanical to me out there. Didn't look very fluid or comfortable. Rosenfels seems much more poised. Carr looks better when he just takes off and runs.

Moulds with some short possession-type receptions (10-12 yd comeback, a short hook, and a short drag).

AJ with a couple of targets; tight coverage by Surtain on an in route (could've been intercepted, Carr threw behind and inside), and a deep seam route that could've been a big play had the LB not dropped deep into the zone and tipped the pass away.

Wali Lundy looks pretty good so far, a couple nice returns and doing a good job at RB (aside from one bad drop on a swing pass). Definitely looks better than A. Smith, although to be fair Smith got no blocking at all on his couple of runs. Lundy's made a nice first impression and got the offense going.

Owen Daniels (TE) has made a couple of nice catches; looks like he knows how to find the open spots and settle into them.

Mario Williams was a non-factor while he was in there, didn't really have an opportunity to make anything happen. It looked like he lined up at a few different spots along the DL.

The Texans' run defense still needs a lot of work, they really got gashed on that 1st TD drive (first by LJ, and then Dee Brown, it didn't matter).

As a Chiefs fan, I'm a bit surprised to see Printers on the field this early. Pleasantly surprised.

Uh-oh. Printers has taken 2 sacks (one avoidable) and been flagged for intentional grounding. Lousy start. NFL jitters. Here's hoping Herm sends him out in the 3rd quarter to shake the cobwebs.

Injuries to both Huard and Croyle necessitated it. They signed Smoker this week just to have another arm.Printers has a lot to learn about the difference between the wide CFL field and slower defenders, and the NFL game. He's got 2 years to learn how to play the more controlled, less free-lance game here. He'll be fine eventually, but right now I think he's going to get an edumacation.

Chris Taylor will be the third Texans RB to see carries tonight while the team goes through the evaluation process of who's #2 behind DD. Taylor is the undrafted FA rookie that has apparently been very impressive in practice and is growing into a coach's favorite, along with Lundy.

Thanks for the explanation. Disappering into the "real world" tends to create questions and confusion. I'm gonna try to avoid making that trip from now on.

Halftime report

-Wali Lundy made A. Smith look old and average. He has agility and a great burst. With Kubiak installing a Denver system here, its not beyond the realm of possibility that Lundy becomes the starter in HOU and gets 1K yeards. I get the impression that its already 1A and 1B and 1A is oft-injured.

-CHiefs clearly playing smashmouth football. The OL looked good after the first series. Even Samspn and Bober were blowing people up. Dee Brown came in and had massive holes to run through after LJ.

-Naked bootleg.....YAWN. As was said before GK knows Gunther CUnningham is too aggressive and exploits it every time. The thing I take away from that though is that if he can move Carr around, Carr's #s may drastically improve as it keeps him upright more. Denever used this against KC all the time.

-KC DBs made several nice plays...Surtain jumped a couple routes early.

-KCs DL was solid in stuffing the runs over the middle of teh line...its when Lundy would cut up through the tackles that he made his hay.

-I LOVED Samie Parker's hit.......too bad he didnt even get a sniff of the ball. KC was using the play clock to shorten the game....many times it went inside of 5 and was followed with some sort of run.

-Casey Printers looks lost and overwhelmed.

-Didnt see much form the young KC safeties...will be hoping to see more in 2nd half.

Texans :: RB

Battle Of The Texans' RBs

Ana Chavez, HoustonTexans.com - [Full Article]

With RB Domanick Davis still out, RB Antowain Smith will definitely be seeing playing time this Saturday, according to Kubiak. RB Vernard Morency, RB Wali Lundy, RB Chris Taylor and RB Damien Rhodes will not all get to play against the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead, two will join Smith against the Chiefs and the other two will play at St. Louis. “We are going to make sure that they get a chance to play and not try to play four guys and end up with three or four carries each,” Kubiak said. “We aren’t going to do that; when they play we want them to get some reps.” Who will play Saturday will be decided Thursday afternoon.

I think this has more to do with it. I hadn't heard of an injury.

Printers is certainly doing something I haven't seen as a Texans fan. He's making our defense look good.

A few notes that I have seen:

Printers looks horrible

Sage looks decent

Lundy ran well, dropped the pass, and look decent overall ... prob not as good as the stats may seem

Morency was in on special teams tackle per the announcer

The Texans were said to only bring Smith plus two others (Lundy and

Taylor) to get longer looks. Taylor looked below avg and Lundy back in. Lundy's style, imo, is more of a "gliding" style, picking a hole. I think the intangibles will hold Lundy back, at least for a while.

Chiefs playing very vanille. Seems to be much bigger game for Hou than KC
