***Pre-Game Thread*** Green Bay at Atlanta (1 Viewer)

It really does depend, I think one of the reason Starks got so much power work was because of the Kuhn fumble this past week which was very uncharacteristic of him.
Kuhns still got the short yardage carries (power work, so to speak)Starks played because he practiced well. Starks got a lot of carries because he played well.

BJ got 3rd down plays because he can block and catch.
he played well or he played the eagles. today will be a better litmus test for his new found role/ability/success than the

Sounds like Green Bay got pretty hot under the collar regarding replay shenanigans last time they were in Atlanta. I though McCarthy should have used the flag regardless. What was he saving his challenges for at that point if not for use on a 4th down conversion that appeared low to the naked eye.

“Really, the Tony Gonzalez play, being fourth-and-3, having no information, calling a timeout there would have been the right option. But as we discussed after the game, there was really no information that he did not catch the ball.
:ptts: If only our 'brain trust' upstairs had a clue we would have called Time out.

How could we gave seen that, our guys updstairs were waiting to see the replay of the Jumbo-Tron. That big old Tee Vee shore is purdy...?

It isn't like we have a room full of guys it is whose job it is to look out for this stuff and review replays. Maybe next time well bring our Tivo/DVR to the game...

Why do analysts assume there won't be a lot of Packer fans at this game? Many keep saying the Falcons will feed off the crowd but fail to mention the Packers will too. Sure the crowd will be smaller but loud nonetheless. They may even have a Lambeau leap section in the endzone.

Wisconsin fans love weekend vacations in warm :lmao: weather.
Warm? Have you been following the weather in that part of the country? Of course it will be warmer than Green Bay but the high in Atlanta today is forecast to be 32.
That's like springtime up here. When it gets up to the 20's we're in short sleeve shirts. :ptts:

Looks like it'll be 40 not as warm as we'd like but a lot better than here.
supposed to be in the 50's, though the packers might feel at home. As there are mounds of unmelted snow and Ice all over the dome (but they have cleared all walkways etc) Supposed to be about 50. Beautiful day, sun shining.Oh and me and my MOP (Mayor of Ponce will be Hunter and the Young guns (790 the zone) at the PBR tailgat at about 5. I will be warry my Barry Sanders Jersey. :restoretheroar:

If any out of towners who may not have been able to bring their 'green' wanna grab a smoke with me :ptts: , I'd be honored to extend some southern hospitality before we drop one on you.

PM if gonna be at game and i'll PM my cell.

A prelude. Falcons pack/Game and multiple fan interviews from both sides as taken by a raiders/cowboys fan.. Pretty weird but interesting.

shows the parking lot, fans, the goal line stand, etc.

LOL at the 'Finding Sotness' greatness thing at at 5;30'

'Greatness' is some dude who looks a little like a fat stevie wonder, who wears a shirt with his own picture on it. If you find "greatness' you get a picture with greatness and shirt with greatness on it (which the dude declined) :lmao:

Oh and I am just deciding, I am totally doing something like this. But I'll be talking to a lot more chicks than these dudes. :goodposting:

So I heard that tickets can be had for below face value and this game won't even be a sellout?

Way to represent.

WHAT A ####### SHAME. Where are the packers fans. It's GAMEDAY Baby, WTF how can I possibly be hippling this thread right now. They must be out rolling in fish oil.
So you're a Lion fan AND a Falcon fan? :lmao:
:goodposting:2 years in Detroit (and root Lions when the two meet)But Lived here since 1997 and i don't plan on leaving soon. I was a falcons season ticket holder (though I actually gave away most tickets to z machine and a few others, as I was too FF obsessed to go to the games- and missing too many lions games) for a few years. I love ATL and so I don't mind having two teams. I could only dream that the two would ever meet in a NFC championship.

Typical for Atlanta...
Google anyone? Game is sold out. Only tickets available are from resellers - reputedly since that so few packer fans bought tickets they have plenty at near face value.

ATLANTA -- The winter weather event that has hampered Metro Atlanta this week may have come with a silver lining for Falcons fans.

The ice and snow has discouraged many fans of the Green Bay Packers from making the trip south and buying tickets from ticket brokers. As a result, a number of tickets to the sold out Falcons-Packers playoff game are now available. Some can be bought for less than $100.

Falcons President Rich McKay is happy to see Falcons fans get a second chance at seats that would have been filled with Packers fans.

"We're always trying to be an organization that likes to see as many Falcons fans in the building as we can," McKay said. "And we try to limit ways that opponents' fans can get their hands on tickets. So for us, this is not a bad problem".

The Packers vs Falcons Divisional Playoff game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday.
:mrpack:

one of the advantage of the ATL is that as the cradle of southern hip hop, there is no dearth of talented producers trying to break in the game.

Lotta good work on those Rise Up remixes...

Edit to add - Mike McCarthy, Saints reject, is ready to extend his terrible clock management skills.
Saints reject? He had some solid offenses there and made Aaron Brooks look good.
He had his moments, but I remember being consistently frustrated with his playcalling. Mostly just talking smack here though :o

Pack WR v. Falcons DB

The matchup: In the first meeting between the two teams, the Packers used a lot of five-wide receiver sets because they felt like the Falcons didn't have enough corners to handle that formation. Atlanta, in turn, played a lot of zone coverage, going with a 3-3-5 defense with CB Brian Williams as the nickel. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 26 of 35 passes for 344 yards, but only one touchdown. Essentially, the Falcons let him move the ball up and down the field, but tightened up near the end zone.

This time around Williams will not be on the field because of a knee injury, which means Owens, who held the job before Williams took over, will be pressed into duty. He could be a target of the Packers. Both Robinson and Grimes are talented corners who at 5-10 aren't physically intimidating. Grimes has been the better of the two, but has been thrown at a lot more. The safeties are solid and know how to play Cover-2. If the Falcons blitz, the Packers feel they have a shot at some favorable one-on-one match-ups.

NFL rankings: Packers passing, 5th; Falcons pass defense, 26th.

PACKERS DEFENSIVE LINE vs. FALCONS OFFENSIVE LINE

The matchup: In the last meeting, the Falcons' line did a great job moving the Packers' DL with "angle blocks" and opening up holes so that RB Michael Turner could get matched up against LBs and DBs. None of the five OL are dominating players, but they're very smart and very coordinated. Timing is imporant with a lot of the "power" runs they use and they seem to execute each play with precision. When they don't, they still have the size to maul people. The Packers' DL has great size, but that doesn't always help if you're not disciplined. The linemen have to do a better job of staying square and making Turner run laterally. Expect Green to play mostly on running downs and Jenkins on passing downs. C.J. Wilson will also get a lot of snaps on run downs. As far as pass blocking, the Falcons are good enough QB Matt Ryan gets rid of the ball quickly and that makes it tough to create pressure.

JS again

This time it is Daryl "Lightning Led" Ledbetter, who covers the Falcons for the Atlanta Journal Constitution,

What do you think the Falcons will do differently from the first meeting with the Packers? Offensively, the game plan will be very similar. They will challenge the Packers' manhood and try to stuff the football down their throats. They like RG Harvey Dahl climbing to the second level to maul A.J. Hawk and they like FB Ovie Mughelli on Zombo or Walden if they can get Cullen Jenkins sealed with Sam Baker and a tight end. That will be the side of preference for their stretch runs. They will have to mix some things up in order to get Roddy White free in the passing game. They'll likely throw on some running downs and try to free him out of some run formations. Look for the Falcons to move him around in order to get a matchup they like.

On defense, look for them to get physical with the Packer receivers and try to force them outside and away from the slant routes. They are not to impressed with James Starks because he's a North-South runner with little wiggle. They like Curtis Lofton stuffing him in the hole if their tackles, Corey Peters and Jonathan Babineaux can get some penetration. They felt they didn't tackle well against the receivers last time and know they must play tighter coverage. If Rodgers has some time, the double move routes could be open.

I've been saying all week that I hope that the Packers think that running Starks is the key to the game - as a Falcons fans I'd much rather see them run Stark than put Rodgers in the gun with 4-5 WRs. I think it's possible we could win in either scenario but Rodgers is much more proven than Starks - I hope McCarthy tries to run it all game.On the other side, Turner's had a good year but he can be kind of frustrating at times too. I think our running success is more a factor of the line than Turner. I think the Falcons have been at their best when they use a hurry-up and have Snelling on the field. I wouldn't mind seeing that to start out and then pound them with Turner later.

Falcons special teams are really good and they need to be good today for them to win. I won't make a prediction other than it will most likely be close and come down to the 4th quarter.
