***Pre-Game Thread*** Green Bay at Chicago (1 Viewer)

I said it in another thread, I have no idea who will win, but given the talent and history on both sides, it's going to be close, and it's going to be epic.

 
Wow, I never thought I'd see the day.

Packers/Bears for the chance to go to the Super Bowl.

I'm not sure it gets any better than this.

 
I really can't believe how disprespected Chicago is. Green Bay is a great team, but Chicago has been overlooked all year long because Jay Cutler has been erratic. Chicago has caught a lot of lucky breaks this year, but I think they are also vastly underrated because of a couple blowouts losses they recieved. I honestly think this is Chicago's year and they will beat GB next week in an epic, close game. Chicago played GB pretty close week 17 in a game that meant nothing to Chicago and everything to GB. GB does have a great future ahead of them though, I can't believe how deep that team is. People saying things like GB 55 Chi 0 is ridiculous though (if he was being serious).

Anyone realize that Chicago has played Seattle more in the playoffs than GB? Which is really funny, considering Seattle was in the AFC for many years......

 
I'm sure we'll get to see the stupid bet of Cheese vs Deep Dish Pizza between the 2 Mayors again, as predictable as ever.

Just stop. Please. It meant nothing, that's why Cutler played the whole game, even though he get pounded. Cause thats what teams do with their starting qb in games that don't mean anything.

:excited: It was and still is Lovie's goal to beat the Packers. They played to win that game.
 
The NFL just had one of the best weekends in it's history. A Jets win give the Steelers a better shot at winning the AFC...and it won't matter to the NFL who wins the NFC.

A Steelers vs GB/Chi could be the biggest SB ever...from a ratings and sales standpoint.

They wanted to win. But they used the majority of the game offensively as a testing ground for the passing game. They dropped back 47 times and ran 18 times in a close game throughout. If their only goal was to win, they would have been much closer the 1:1 ration that is the norm. That is what you can expect Sunday. The Packers will have to force the Bears to stop running the ball. As for my take on the game other than the disbelief that it actually is happening, the Bears need to be clicking on all cylinders to win unless the Packers revert back to shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and drops. Not many are playing better than Rodgers and unless his teammates fail him, the Packers will most likely score with regularity. I know they didn't week 17 but you can't expect it to happen again.

So, the Bears probably need to produce on a high level on offense and special teams to stay in the game. The Packers could run away with it if they don't. I wouldn't expect a close game just because both meetings were close. Look at the NFC games this weekend. Previous results mean little.

Chicago didn't GIVE the Packers the game, they certainly tried to win. However, the offensive philosophy in the 2nd half was a clear departure from the norm. It seemed obvious to this Bear fan that they were trying something different (perhaps because the game was meaningless, or maybe they wanted to gauge how certain plays would work against a top defense, or maybe Martz was given free reign to exercise his pass happy ways, or maybe they had seen all they needed to out of the running game and wanted to stretch Cutler out a bit going into the playoffs.

Now I don't know what more you can take from the week 17 game, other than the Bears D is capable at times of holding the Packers offense in check, even on the road in dreaded Lambeau Field. And that the Bears need to maintain a balanced attack to have the best chance of success against the Packers D.

Since this game will be played in Chicago and NOT Green Bay, and since the Bears are healthier and fresher going in, I think the Bears have an excellent chance of winning this game and going on to the Super Bowl.

I'm also glad that the Bears will be a home underdog!

Even Packer fans know that the Bears aren't in the least bit intimidated by GB. That's no disrespect to our neighbors North of the border, it's just that the Bears know them so well and play them as tough as anyone. In fact since Lovie took over as head coach the Bears are 8-6 head to head against the Packers. And that includes a pair of week 17 Packer victories in games that were meaningless in both 2006 and again in 2010 (Bears had already won the division and clinched a 1st round bye).

Mr Pack since I moved to Madison WI from Minneapolis, and met my new babe who is a Packer fan who changed me to the Packer nation, the Packers can't lose. If you want to rub my "troll" hair go for it. But the Packers are blowing out the bears this week baby. I look forward to revisiting this post after the game.Go Pack Go

Yes, Chicago wanted to win. I agree with you.

Yes, they played their starters the entire game.

Yes, it was a rivalry game.

But, I don't think you understand what I am saying. The Bears knew that their season wasn't over if they lost. That game meant nothing to them. I REALLY doubt that ALL 53 of those Bears played like their season was on the line. I'm sure some of them did. But, all 53? You can't tell me some of them weren't thinking "Well, if we lose, it's ok, we still get the bye week and the #2 seed."

I think you'll see a different kind of psyched of team (any team, NOT just chicago) when their season is on the line.....

First congratulations to the packers on the win and I am really exited about this game. I dont hate the packers, free agency and fantasy football have changed the landscape. I hate the eagles more than the packers for example.(knocking out Jim Miller in the playoffs and having a dog murderer does that) while the Packers are a classy organization. now sure some packer fans are annoying just as any team that has its shares of trolls.

that said I have nothing but respect for the packer organization.

that's my disclaimer before I post my Bear biased posts.

I suppose they gave up those late TDs to the Seahawks because they wanted to work on their onside kick coverage?

The game was well in hand and the defensive intensity wasn't the same during garbage time. Haven't you ever seen similar prevent defense gaffes when a team is up by four scores, or are you just bitter that Dodds lost his bet on the Hawks?
