***Pre-Game Thread*** Seattle at Chicago (1 Viewer)

Bears fans pretty happy to be facing Seattle rather than Mike Vick and the Iggles.

Bears defense on the road should be a stiffer challenge than NO at home for the Seahawks, and Forte and company will provide the running game that the Saints lacked by contrast.

Seahawks defense and special teams will have to play way over their heads to keep them in this game. If I were a "gamblin' man", my entire playoff budget would be wagered on the Bears as the Divisional Round's best bet...

Seahawks won't be putting up a 41 in this one.

I wish this thing kicked off tomorrow....cant f'n wait

BEAR DOWN!!!

I have noting but nice things to say about people from Seattle. Its a great state to live in and the people are extremely nice.

Is it too late in the season to trade Roman Harper to Chicago? Just heard on NFLN that he was Seattle's 13th Man, thought that was funny. My buddy's family has a lifelong luxury suite at Soldier Field (something about his dad being one of the best LBs to ever play in the game, I think there's a college award named after him). But he just had a kid 2 months ago and he's not going so I can't tag along  Not sure how a Hasselbeck jersey would've gone over in that guy's box, now I'll never know.

I like this matchup. It was after the trashing that Cutler took by the Seahawks (and the 2 games prior) that Martz adjusted his protection and they've been on fire since. Last time these two teams met in the playoffs, the hawks were not very good and hurt but still came within about 5 yards for a winning FG attempt. This year they went into Soldier Field and got their biggest road win in 3 years. Last season, the refs directly influenced the game for 2 TDs in favor of the Bears. One was a very clear fumble at the Seahawks 1 that was called a fumble and overturned despite clear video evidence (an angle the ref must not have seen) of a fumble. Then the go ahead TD was on a play that one of the OL very clearly had a big flinch but no false start was called. The point being, and of course both teams are different now, that the Hawks have hung with the Bears.

Pressure will be the key, otherwise Cutler is going to have a career day. Hoping for Earl Thomas to come up big and would love for Curry to actually have a standout statement game. I will say, just as I did for the Saints, that I would expect the Bears to win, but can't count out the Seahawks if they play the way they have the last two games or as they did in week 5 (I think). I put money on Seattle with no points over NO so all those winnings are going on the money line (correct term?) for this week's game as well.

And most important, I work Saturday but not Sunday so I get to watch uninterrupted in my own home environs. Good luck to all and hoping for a great game. I'll be disappointed of course if Seattle loses, but if they play well and just simply get beat by the better team I will hold my head high and feel great about a season I thought was horrible just 3 weeks ago. Playoff experience for these youngsters, as well as Hass going out swinging (and with the best postseason game, TD wise, in Seattle history) in his swan songs is very comforting to fans that have been through a lot of disappointment the last 5 years.

Oh yeah, #### you Hutchinson.

Perhaps Martz pulls another brainfart and opts to not make a true attempt at running the ball, but I have my doubts. I think the Bears loss to Seattle was a key moment in the season for Chicago. They learned a lot about themselves that day and have made major adjustments as a team since that game. If they had shown any sort of balance on offense there might have been a very different outcome.

Already 9.5 pt underdogs.
You aint playing at home this time Sparky - and the Bears wont be overconfident. If you start Hass, he wont be in the game long enough to throw 2 TDs let alone 4. Oh, and the Bears know how to tackle RBs too - and we have a few of our own that weren't picked up last week either.I'm thinking Bears 108 Seattle 3. The FG was thanks to a nice Leon Washington return. The Squaks will have about 47 yards of total offense. GG

It's the Bears' year I'm afraid. The ball seems to bounce their way quite a bit.

In watching the Seattle postgame press conferences you'd think they'd just won the SB. They were talking as if they'd really accomplished something, and didn't talk much about the next week at all. They're pleased with this victory and it's all they wanted......a little respect.

I'm guessing the Bears wipe Soldier field clean with the Seahawks. Won't even be close.

 That absolutely was the turning point for Martz. The offense completely changed after that disaster (except for last week in GB, but hopefully that was just Martz not wanting to show much to GB in case we see them again)

I was on the Hawks big-time last week and I am off them big-time this week. That win at Chicago earlier this season guarantees that the Bears won't be taking this game lightly. Playing a game at 1 p.m. East Coast time doesn't help things - I've seen Seattle sleepwalk through many 1 p.m. games, especially when going up against stout defenses. It's been a great ride, and the last two games give the Seattle 2010 highlight video a great ending, but this one smells like yesterday's Baltimore-KC game to me. Maybe it's kind of close for the first half, and then the Bears gradually pull away for a 27-10 win.

Agreed, except for those kids handing out flyers on the sidewalks downtown. I wish they would leave me alone."Do you have a minute for the environment?""sure I do, but you can ####-off"

If owner of said box (and a fine representative of the University of Illinois I'll add) were to see you in that jersey it might not end well. Just sayin' :goodposting: -QG

I don't blame them. You have to feel like they have a decent chance right? I mean they ended a ridiculously long out of division road losing streak against the Bears back in week 6 (I think it was around 20 straight road losses to non-NFC West teams). If I were Seattle, I'ld much rather travel one fewer time zone east and face the Bears in potentially poor field conditions than have to face Matty Ice and the 'dirty birds' in a dome. Makes perfect sense to me. I meant no disrespect to Seahawks fans, and genuinely feel more of a kindred spirit to your fan base than any other West coast team. Back in 2006 a couple of Seahawks fans were sitting next to us at Soldier Field and were good sports as they endured a pasting from the Bears; and this was back when Seattle was a legit contender coming off a Super Bowl and I heartfeltly told them I hoped to see these two teams play each other again in the playoffs where I was sure the contest would be much closer. (they did, and it was... with the Bears winning only by a FG on their way to a Super Bowl themselves)

I'm also happy for Seattle that the Seahawks are playing as well as they are and would be rooting for them again this week were they not playing against the Bears. I just honestly believe this Bears team is Super Bowl bound. They have a defense that is healthier and better at this stage of the season than the 2006 version, and now they have a much better offense than the Rex Grossman 2006 version to go along with a tough D and the league's most dangerous special teams unit. I'm not sure the Bears will be able to beat NE once they get there, but in the meantime I don't think lightning is going to strike twice with Seattle going back into Chicago in the Divisional Round and coming out with another win.

For Seapuke fans, it's the lesser of two evils. The Bears (the #2 seed) who have been decent, but not dominant at home or Atlanta (the #1 seed) who has been very tough to beat in the dome? Sure, I understand and agree - you'd rather face the Bears.

But for the Bears, it's a little different. You see it was either the Seahags or the Eagles. Let's see....

Mike Vick or Matt Hassel"we want the ball"beck?

The NFL's 27th ranked rushing offense, or the team that league in YPC?

The team that's 6-2 on the road, or the road-weak Squawks who are 2-6 away from home?

The team whose Net Points are +62 or the one thats -97 (3rd worst in the NFC)?

See for the Peehawks, it's the lesser of two evils. For the Bears it's between having to play a good team and having to play a mediocre one...no offense...or defense really.

This is exactly what the Saints fans said last week about the Rams victory, lol...Believe me, the Hawks may lose, but these guys aren't just proud to have made a statement. These kids are DELLUSIONAL! They are insane. These idiots, actually believe that they can win. Believe it or not, i fully feel that these morons believe they can with a superbowl.Watch and see. You'll see it against the Bears. They are not going to lack effort and heart and belief. They may lack talent though. That said, if there was 1 team in the playoffs I would choose to play away, and i don't mean 1 team left in the playoffs, but 1 team from the original 12 that made the playoffs, it would be the Bears. Would i want to face the Saints at their home over the Bears after defeating the Saints? No way. The Chiefs? No way. I can't think of one team i would much rather play than the Bears. And guess what? If the Hawks win and if the Packers beat the Falcons, then the NFC championship game will be played at the home of the 7-9 Seahawks, lol...that's too ridiculous to even comprehend.

You could certainly make a compelling case for the Bears not really enjoying as much of a home field advantage as the Seahawks, and I won't argue with you. However, the Bears are healthier and more talented than the 2010-11 version of the Seahawks despite the week 6 loss. The Bears are also a better team on a fast surface, and may actually be more dangerous on the road in some respects rather than having to play in the elements and/or on one of the league's worst playing surfaces at home in Chicago. That's one reason why I wouldn't mind them going into Atlanta for the NFC Championship game, despite the Falcons success rate at home. They are able to generate a pass rush with merely four linemen on a fast track, and their team speed at linebacker and on the offensive side of the ball is enhanced as well. BTW, the only two QBs to defeat Matty Ice in Atlanta: Drew Brees and Jay Cutler :excited:

Really? You'd rather face the Bears? The only other team in the NFC that has allowed fewer points than the Bears are the Packers (heck, the Bears are 4th, with Pitt and Baltimore being the only 2 from the AFC). Over the Eagles who are 4-4 at home...well, 4-5 now :excited: We get. The Hawks are happy to have advanced, and are happy that they are NOT playing the Falcons, but do try to make some sense if you wanna talk smack.

Counting their playoff game against the Saints, the Seahawks are allowing 26 ppg this season

The Seahawks and the Eagles were the only two NFC opponents to score more than 21 points against the Bears this season

The Bears allowed just 16.4 ppg against their 12 NFC opponents in the regular season

The Seahawks went 2-6 on the road this year

Seahawks odds of winning Super Bowl at start of playoffs: 100-1.

Bears 0-for-12 on third down in the first meeting with the Seahawks. That was during the midst of the low point of the season, of course.

Bears Devin Hester had his 2nd punt return for a touchdown this season in the first meeting with Seahawks

Bears lost to Seahawks 23-20 on Oct. 17. Jay Cutler dropped back to pass 47 times and handed the ball off 12 times. Da Bears were the 6th most balanced team in the NFL during the last nine weeks in terms of equal number of rushing plays to passing plays.

:lmao: Especially the bolded part. The Bears are 5-3 at home and 6-2 on the road. Only the Steelers have a better road record than the Bears. Another interesting stat that has me okay with the Pack losing, the bears winning and having to go to Atlanta:

Cutler's passer rating when playing on grass this season: 77.7 (which includes home games)

Cutler's passer rating when playing on turf this season : 108.9

It's not just the defense that plays better on artificial turf.

Tommie Harris on Bears being 10 point favorites: "If we go by what people think we wouldn't be in the playoffs."

Julius Peppers saw Lynch run hard, but he also saw a lot of missed tackles. "I don’t think that we’ll have that problem this week."

This comes to Lovie Smith and Mike Martz.

Lovie Smith needs to make sure the Bears do not take the Seahawks lightly and are prepared and ready to go for this game.

Mike Martz needs to run the ball a lot and not just throw, throw, throw all day.

Peppers didn't have to worry about missed tackles last time they played either :dominatedbyarookie:

As a Seahawks fan - this is the best of all possible matchups. In order for the Seahawks to win in Chicago they are going to need some help from the Bears - and there is no one that has a better probability of providing that help than Jay Cutler. On paper, I don't think you can realistically make a case for the Seahawks to win this game - but when you throw in the things you just can't predict - the improbable decisions made under pressure - it's those things that can change the game. Not saying the Seahawks will win, but they can win this game and I wouldn't want to be facing any other QB than Cutler if I had to win a game against a better team.

By definition, every broken tackle is a missed tackle. Every great Earl Campbell run included missed tackles. Players will choose the wording that makes them feel better about themselves or somehow demeans an opposing player.

Bears ranked 1st in terms of quickest in NFL in average time of scoring drives, with their 58 scoring drives averaging just 3:02 in length

Bears held 10 opponents to under 20 points in 2010 and four to under 14 points. Seahawks scored 23 in their victory over the Bears.

Bears were 0-12 on 3rd down vs. in the first Seahawks game. They ranked 9th in NFL in 3rd down conversion percentage over last 9 games.

Bears defense allowed just 14 passing TDs during the 2010 regular season, second fewest in the NFL.

Every statistic points to a dominating win by Chicago. From that perspective there is no way on earth Seattle should have the slightest possibility of even making it a competitive game. If Seattle does win, it will assuredly be because the game was rigged.

I'm not expecting Seattle to win but it wouldn't shock me either. A couple of Jay Cutler INTs can change the flow of a game in a hurry. I think this game will surprise a lot of people with how close it actually ends up being. Seattle might lose, but they are playing too well right now and have too much confidence to get blown out.

Tatupu suffered a concussion on Saturday but no word whether he will be out or not. That would be huge for the Seahawks.

:goodposting: Lynch was a great acquisition, and "Me-shawn" was known for going into 'beast mode' well before Saturday's win over the Saints. Simply one of the greatest runs I've ever seen in my life and I'm a member of the over 40 crowd (and a Bears fan)...

Bears had zero sacks against the Seahawks in the first game. They had 23 over final 9 weeks, tied for 5th most in NFL during that time.

Seahawks LB Lofa Tatupu "responded very well" Monday, recovering from concussion suffered Saturday.

Pretty sure the Seahawks have no chance this week. They're completely outclassed by a better opponent. All the stats prove this. There is no doubt.

Just like last week.

With one difference: you're not in Kansas any more, Toto. You'll be playing on the road - and it aint got no yellow bricks this time. You know, the road, where the 'hawks are 2-6. No Lions or Tigers - but definately Bears. Oh My. After this Sunday, the Seahwaks will realize that there really is no place like home. I hope you enjoyed the little playoff dream, because when the 'hawks wake up Monday morning, it's back to black and white.

I'm pretty sure we agree. There's no way at all the 2011 Seahawks could ever win in Chicago. None at all.

Also, I don't really understand posts like this at all. You aren't playing. Neither am I. There's no reason at all to act like some kind of Nostradamus who pretends to know he's got any idea what's going to happen next weekend when grown men who are neither you nor I meet and play a game. There's a chance the Seahawks win the game. There's a larger chance the Bears win the game. You have a choice - you can act like, well, you just did, or you can take a step back and see if that's really how you want to comport yourself.

Playoff experience for these youngsters, as well as Hass going out swinging (and with the best postseason game, TD wise, in Seattle history) in his swan songs is very comforting to fans that have been through a lot of disappointment the last 5 years.Oh yeah, #### you Hutchinson.
Why do Seattle fans keep leaving out the other matchup in 2006? The one where Seattle came in as probably a slight favorite and went home 37-6 losers in a game that wasn't even that close?

Why do Seattle fans keep leaving out the other matchup in 2006? The one where Seattle came in as probably a slight favorite and went home 37-6 losers in a game that wasn't even that close?
You answered your own question. I'm sure they played in the '80's too, but that also doesn't matter.
