Predict a good player getting cut (1 Viewer)

Reasonably, please tell us a prediction of a good player not making the 53 for a team that you follow closely.
Why? Has he not played well this summer? Fell down the depth chart? Etc

@Bri
I will start with your very own Titans. Nick Folk can't seem to kick Brayden Narveson to the curb. A few articles I read cast some doubt on his leg strength, even though he is automatic from under 40. Times change, and teams are now wanting their kicker to be able to have 60 yard attempts. Folk has a career long of 56, and that was 14 years ago.

Not sure I'd call him "good", as he hasn't proven much, but RB Izzy Abanikanda of the Jets may not make the team. He had a solid showing this past Saturday night and that might have saved his spot, but it's a crowded group and if they don't put him on the practice squad, he could released outright. Doesn't seem to have impressed team brass, but he does have a good size/speed combo that could be valuable elsewhere.

Funny...Pats made this exact move last year...and it did not end well.

There are some rumblings out of N.O. that Kendre Miller isn't safe. He is always hurt and the staff would rather keep someone with more durability.
zero chance of him getting cut
I wouldn't say zero, but he's good a huge hill to climb with Allen. More likely to be inactive on game days for some time.
Not a hard rumor to piece together when Allen is saying you can't make the club in the tub and Kendre got hurt on day one of conditioning and must have been quite a pull because that was about 4.5 weeks ago.

I think if Allen has his way he'd cut him but would guess he's most likely headed to IR with return designation later.

He's for sure been going down the Kadarius Toney path so far. Allen being so hard on him does make me think he's not putting in the work and it's not just bad luck.

Keep an eye on who the Ravens cut at DB. There are going to be some good young players available.

I'd also keep a lookout for Qadir Ismail (Qadry's son). He's an undrafted rookie who previously switched from QB to WR, and is now a TE with Baltimore. The Ravens TE room is full and I suspect they are hoping he slides through waivers so they can put him on the practice squad. From all reports, he was lights-out in training camp.

The 3rd round draft capital spent on Miller last year is probably all that's saving him right now. That's a pretty high pick for RBs these days, for the most part.

That and he's a good player, albeit unable to stay healthy.

The IR designation might save him. Allen was quoted not too long ago saying Miller has been out so long its hard to evaluate how well he knows the offense.

Ernest Jones LB Rams. Something weird going down there.
Ernest goes to camp, and finds himself kicked out.
I got into trouble at boy scout camp one year for orchestrating taking canoes out into the lake after midnight. One guy turned us over and he damn near drowned and pulled me under with him. I grabbed him around the neck and dragged him to shore. I was the one who got scolded for this adventure. The guy who turned us over is now the scoutmaster.

Elijah Mitchell
😬
Thread was titled cut candidate but if you made it cut/trade candidates he'd headline my list as I think his odds of being traded are a lot higher then being cut, but getting cut is not impossible for sure.

If I was putting together a series of make sense trades I'd have the Texans sending Pierce to the Chargers, Ravens or Cowboys and acquiring Mitchell who is familar with Slowick and would provide juice to Mixon's methodical style.

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know; that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, *saves lives*.

You chose wrong.

I would be so sad.

He’s an anchor of my defense in 2 IDP leagues.

They gave him permission to seek a trade - I do not think he’s a cut candidate because he’s a 25 y/o elite LB,
Timing of the permission is weird. Plus there is some chatter from Rams fans that he has a bum knee that concerns the team.

Right now I think his FA compensatory pick at end of year is >>> than his trade value so that might save him.

But this seems very much to be a no smoke without fire situation.

Also the team and fans are high on Omar Speights. Go get him.

He also tweeted that he didn’t request a trade.

Speciation is that he’s angling for an extension before next year, and the team floated this to see what sort of trade offers they’d get.

I can find nothing to substantiate a “bum knee” - dude put up what, 145 tackles and 4 sacks last year? I want that kinda bum knee.

There’s been speculation he’d be cut since before camp started. Appropriate for topic title.

I believe he's more likely to hold onto the #2 job then get cut.

It’s possible, but Jordan Mason has looked really, really good.
He has, and I would lean him as the #2 for sure but I don't consider it as in the range of a given.

Mitchell can play, of course can't stay on the field but I don't think they want to cut a guy who can play at his level who only cost a million. I'm not saying it's not possible, just think if he's not on the team it's most likely by trade.

Did anybody say Miles Sanders yet? I don't think he will be on the Panthers much longer. Cut, traded either way, I think his time in Carolina is over.
I was going to mention him(and Mitchell, Pierce and Perince) but felt like most of the people I would bring up at more trade candidates then cut candidates, except for Perine.

My thinking on Sanders is that while sure Carolina would give him to anyone who makes them a compelling offer, and to be clear they have to pay someone to take him so by compelling I mean they don't have to pay to much for someone to take him. That's not trying to be mean, just a reality of his worth vs his guaranteed contract. But my guess is no one is paying right now since most RB's are healthy, and since Brooks is not and might start the year on PUP I'm thinking Sanders sticks and they will hope someone has injuries and eventually takes him off their hands. So I agree he may not be long for Carolina, I tend to think it's most likely not till later.

"The only market worse than RBs is the one for LBs" has been said by more than a few radio hosts .
I'm real curious here.

We've seen two Atlanta lose starting LBs and they can't even find a job. Rashaan Evans was like fifth in tackles in the NFL then out of work.

The LB position market can be real quirky and odd and it's usually not in the players favor

I am deeply skeptical that Ernest Jones gets cut or struggles to find work.

49ers could absolutely use him.

Sure sure but it's been brought up that two recent late summer LB trades were for sixth and seventh round picks the last two years. That's the worst route, lowest value.
I'm not saying that's what his is but the market can be bad quick and his agent needs to get on this right away and be careful.

Herbert. Or traded.
Roschon struggles to stay healthy.

if both of these are true, then what does the season look like for Velus Jones at RB?
No lock Velus makes the roster. His role is special teams and gimmick plays. He hasn't been playing long enough to get real reps at RB in the regular season. Bears are also rumored to be keeping Travis Homer as RB4. Blasingame (the FB) is the defacto #5 and Jones is 6th on depth chart (if they keep him).

Even if Allen hates him and wants to get rid of him which I don't think he will, you think a team like Dallas wouldn't trade a 4th or 5th for him, come on.

Its hard to tell with the NFL, but outside of draft capital, Miller hasn't shown much.

He's missed games due to 5 different injuries over the last two years and when he did play he was statistically one of the least effective runners in the league. What is that worth?

Gregg Rosenthal suggests the Rams were going to start a UDFA over him, a captain.

So
maybe that wasn't a look or $ situation they wanted

I can't seem to find that. Sean McVay came out and said that "we never said that he requested a trade." He adds, "Jones has been a total pro about the situation."

Apparently the Rams alerted Jones that they are open to trading him. He did not request it. There are no reports of potentially getting cut.
