Presidential Debate Thread - Obama vs. Romney (1 Viewer)

Obama is best when he runs out the clock! I guess when you are winning you just let Romney punch himself out.
I'm watching on CNN with the split screen and Mitt looks non-presidential when he's not speaking. The look on his face is annoying.

Favorite Mitt lines:"The free market depends on regulation.""We didn't cut Medicare (in Massachusetts), of course we don't have Medicare, we didn't cut Medicare by $716 billion."
:lmao: those were hysterical lines. but it doesn't matter - it's like basketball...nobody ever remembers how many shots you miss, they only remember the ones you make. it used to be called "Chuck Person syndrome."
Excellent point.

I give Romney credit here. He's doing very well. I was looking forward to a lashing, and it's not happening.

Obama = 1-term president
Is one term 8 years now? :popcorn: Romney is doing okay tonight, but traditionally the challenger does very well in the first debate. However, what he's not doing tonight is coming across as a guy anyone would like to have a drink with. He's failing to connect with anyone. He's also stated multiple items that either don't make sense ("I won't cut any taxes that raise the deficit") and hasn't brought up any significant talking points that would influence independents. He's in attack mode and sounds more like a campaign stop than an case to be president. Winning the battle tonight thus far but he's going to lose the war of the election if something significant doesn't go his way.

I hope Obama has some good news about taking out another "terrorist cell" or something of that magnitude to justify his performance tonight. He seems like he has his mind elsewhere.

Most people already voting for Obama are not watching this, it's not a joke it's the truth. Obama really doesn't have to score a lot, can basically smile and act calm. He even embraced the term Obamacare, that used to be a put down now he wears as a badge of honor.
Here comes some edgy commentary! I just know it!
:takesbait:DD, I am on the phones all day long, I'm in sales. I was speaking with a lady in Ohio tonight, kinda knew we were not gonna do business so I lightened up the conversation and just asked her why Ohio is voting for Obama according to these polls. She immediately starts barking that Romney wants to take away women's rights...so many folks in this country have 1 basic "thing" that they are visceral about and they just vote that way. Very few people are going to be willing to hear both sides, weigh their options, and then vote. Look at this thread. I think Romney has had some valid points tonight, he might have even slightly won this debate but many of the people here were already voting for him. I don't see a lot of Obama support in here and I'm not surprised. The media announced Obama as the winner 2 weeks ago in the polls which was done to suppress people from getting out and voting. Where is the extreme anger that was going around when Obamacare was passed 2-3 years ago? Everyone I knew was eager to vote Obama out of office...did all those feeling disappear? Poeple may not realize this but they have to buy health insurance very soon, like next year after the elections(wink wink) and somehow that has disappeared as a hot topic. I thought the GOP was screaming about repealing it last year in the primaries...where did the thunder die out?No edgy comment, just sad we can't elect better candidates. I have a mix of conservative and liberal views, I think a lot more Americans are like this than is discussed on media outlets, but apparently the election is over. Romney has looked good tonight, doubt it will change much in the polls. Obama has played it pretty cool, I'm sure he won't lose much traction in the media polls released tomorrow.

Its very hard to stay engaged with this thing. They keep going at the same policy stuff from different angles. A lot of specifics but very few differentiating points.

Romney is much better going head to head against Obama than he is on the campaign trail. Obama is struggling tonight.

Obama playing it safe. He's losing though. Does it matter? I'm guessing most have turned to Honey Boo Boo by now...
The debate is only the first half. Swing voters are just as likely to make up their minds from the media coverage over the next few days. Think Al Gore sighing. Romney's "winning" by laying down some real whoppers, especially on taxes. The press hasn't really had alot of patience with this from him this year.

Is there a fundamental difference between tonight's moderator and a crazy senile guy spilling soup all over himself?

Also Romney is way in the center in this debate. Its like he's given up trying to fire up the base. Going to completely for undecideds and weak Obama supporters.

too bad they are not getting into foreign policy tonight - Romey could have capitalized on the Libya disaster while it is fresh in people's mind
