Priest Holmes on roster for Sunday’s game at Oakland

The Kansas City Star

OAKLAND, Calif. | The Chiefs announced Saturday they have activated Priest Holmes, and he is expected to be in uniform for today’s game at Oakland.

Holmes, who has been on the reserve, non-football injury list this season, has not played in a game since suffering head and neck injuries from a hit on Oct. 30, 2005. He will back up starter Larry Johnson.

The Chiefs did not have to clear space for Holmes on the 53-man active roster because he takes the spot vacated by running back Michael Bennett, who was traded last week to Tampa Bay.

I really hope this has a positive affect on LJ (owner of course)... and "positive" here can mean to make him very angry

Should he be rostered in most leagues? Just curious what people are thinking about him...

Who are you dropping to pick him up?

I was struggling with this. I picked him up on Wednesday. But then I started thinking about the situation a little more and my issues with rostering him are...1) LJ is the starter (obviously). This is not like before in which Priest was a primary back, so he won't see the numbers we're used to getting from him.2) The O-Line is not even close to what it was when Priest was playing.3) The coaching is not what it was when Priest was playing.4) He's coming back from a pretty nasty/dangerous injury - so I can't see him going full-out like in the past (even if subconsciously)5) Hasn't played in 2 years. It will take him some time to get into football shape.6) LJ is the starter.7) Up to now, we haven't seen much of the other RBs on the team since LJ took over. So it seems that RBBC isn't on the horizon. I realize Priest (might) < Bennett and the rest, but I don't see a history of multi-backs in KC.8) I feel that the coaching staff will be careful with him and play him sparingly. 9) Based on the above, I don't see him getting the 5-10 touches they're talking about giving him. 5 maybe. So with that, I turned around and dropped him again. With LT, Steve Smith and Rivers on a bye this week, I needed someone who can help me week 7, and didn't think the odds of Priest being a major FF contributor were that great. So I dropped him to pick up some bye help this week.I'll admit though, I'm not overly comfortable with my decision.

This is a crazy situation but I picked up Holmes today. Zoni listed all the reasons to not pick up Holmes and every one of them are completely valid. I honestly believe the chances of Holmes helping any ff team are pretty remote but I also believe that the Chiefs would not activate and dress him unless they thought he could help their team. Again, the chances of Holmes helping any of our teams is remote but taking flyers on situations like this is why ff is so much fun. We take our chances and see what happens.

I think the one thing people are forgetting is that LJ is NOT having a good year. Even with his big first half last week, he still only finished with 119 yards on 31 carries (3.8 per). On the season he is averaging just 3.4 ypc. O-line, coaching and lack of a consistant passing attack are all factors in his disappointing play. But if he continues to struggle the Chiefs will definitely give Holmes more touches. No one expects him to be The Priest of Ol', but maybe, even at this stage of his career, he can do more in this offense than LJ. Not likely to happen, but possible.

Holmes is worth the roster spot because he could end up being a big part of the offense if LJ continues to struggle.

I think some people are overlooking the way Priest may get used.

I doubt he runs the ball a whole lot, but I would expect a LOT of his touches to be on screens, checkdowns, etc. Get the ball to him in space like he used to.

I can't bring myself to add him until after this week. I'd have to drop Chris Henry or Kenton Keith, and I'm not quite ready to pull that trigger yet, want to see if Addai can stay healthy and how Henry does with Brown out.
