Priest Holmes (1 Viewer)

What I am hearing is LJ's injury was pretty ugly - could be the type of injury to keep him out a while

Any believers in the Priest?

I think he's definitely worth grabbing. Even if he's not that good anymore (a likely scenario), any starting RB has significant value, especially in deeper leagues. And if he surprises me and others and shows even half the flash of the old Priest, he could be a pickup.

He's worth picking up, but I can't see him getting a full load...probably will split carries with Kolby Smith.

Combination of splitting, and how poorly that line looks, it's unlikely that either would be great options.

Still worth owning, though...but don't get high expectations.

Fuel to the fire

Damon Huard passed to Tony Gonzalez to the left for 17 yard gain (2pt attempt converted, Priest Holmes run up the middle)

He's great at the goalline and can catch the ball very well out of the backfield. That alone makes him valuable.

Kolby Smith moving on up Following the trade of Michael Bennett, Kolby Smith should become Larry Johnson's backup. The rookie out of Louisville struggled in the preseason, and doesn't have a carry in the regular season. He's worth grabbing as a handcuff in deep leagues. Getting anything for Bennett is a plus for Kansas City, and it could be a sign that Priest Holmes is ready to contribute. If not, rookie Marcus O'Keith may be called up to be the team's third back. Oct. 16 - 9:12 am et
Larry Johnson was carted off Sunday with what the Chiefs are calling a "right ankle sprain." He had 19 carries for 53 yards and a TD before exiting. Johnson had added another score and 42 yards on three catches. Johnson could put no pressure on the ankle as two trainers combined to get him to the sideline. It definitely looked worse than a sprain. Priest Holmes replaced him, and would get the majority of carries if Johnson misses signficant time. Rookie Kolby Smith would also pick up some snaps

He does? 3 years ago. How does anybody know what type of player he is today?
Those are 2 traits that age usually doesn't take away. Ask guys like Dillon, Faulk, Stephen Davis, Zack Crockett....should I keep going? I almost put this in my original post, but I figured it was pretty obvious.

i say you have to pick him up just to participate in the pagentry of it all... guy comes back against all odds, etc.

He is worth a pickup because it is hard to find starting rbs in fantasy that are playable. Also, no one else on the waiver wire has had as much success in the NFL as Priest has.

Part of LJs issue this year with the Chiefs poor OLine, is he is not a laterally quick type of RB. When the middle is stuffed and he tries to bounce outside, he just doesn't get there quick enough. Priest is exactly the opposite player of LJ, and he made a couple nice runs yesterday doing just what LJ failed to do many many times this year, bounce outside and get positive yardage. Add to it that Priest is a much better pass protector, has much better hands, and he is definitely worth a p/up and start this week vs. Denver. But anyone who has fantasies of 2003 will be sorely dissappointed. Priest will NOT be that same level of player, and the OLine is nowhere near that dominant unit of a few years ago.

And yes, Kolby will get his share of touches as well, so Priest will not get a solo show for a week. I'd bet on 15-18 carries for 50-60 yards, 1TD, plus maybe 4-30 receiving, maybe a bit more. That's flex worthy for me, not sure bout you.

It's not even a 100% guarantee that LJ misses more than a week. I'm waiting for X-Ray and MRI results to come back.

As an LJ owner, I have to pick him up to at least fill out my roster, but I don't expect a ton. I will be going 4 wr this week.

The guy to have in all this...Gonzo IMO....
Amen! Gonzo has been cash $ for both my teams! This week in my 4 league we had this for WR/TE groupsOpponent:Wayne 5-62Boldin 3-40My team:Gonzo 10-109-1TDWinslow 11-125How indicative of this wacky season that 2 stud WRs get so badly outperformed by 2 TEs. Course half my team is riding on tonight's game, so I've got a major deficit to make up.

For those interested....

KC's remaining schedule:

10 Nov 11 DEN

11 Nov 18 @ IND

12 Nov 25 OAK

13 Dec 2 SDG

14 Dec 9 @ DEN

15 Dec 16 TEN

16 Dec 23 @ DET

17 Dec 30 @ NYJ

um, WHAT?!I think you want the Miss America Pageant , not a fantasy football forum...you're going to cry tears of joy when Priest takes a handoff? Go get 'em , Tiger...! did you cry during the movie Free Willie?!Charlotte's Web, oh now there is a tear jerker..oh , and Ole Yeller..you can barely watch the scene where the boy has to shoot him..I get choked up every time I see it..and, what about the first 5 minutes of 'Nestor, the Long Eared Christmas Donkey`..ya know, the part where his mother dies when he's just a baby...oh god, tears fall like Niagara Falls for that show.

I didn't see him yesterday but I know Indy is a tough matchup for RBs. I think Priest could be a good play this week against Oak if you're in need of an RB. Anybody see him run yesterday? Does he even have signs of explosiveness left? Or is he just plowing forward on all of his carries?

Behind that O-line they all look the same. Just plug and go. I do believe Priest has been averaging close to 3 yards per carry and has been getting around 20 carries the last 2 games. But there just aren't any holes because the O-line is incapable of sustaining their blocks. That offense is entirely painful to watch and Herm's (or is Solari?) conservative play calling is pathetic! I knew they were gonna run the ball 3 straight times when they had 1:18 on the clock and all 3 timeouts before half time. I seriously believe Herm thought of it as a moral victory to be tied 3 - 3 with the powerhouse Indy offense. I should have listened to all the Herm bashers earlier...this guy needs to be a defensive coordinator and stay far away from the offense!

Didn't watch either of the games, so my opinion is probably useless. But, through tracking both the Denver & Indy games on NFL.com, it seems Priest still has some conditioning issues. He has come out of the gates somewhat strong and faded a little down the stretch. Also, Herm seems to have abandoned the run in the 2nd half lately (again may have something to do with Priest's conditioning).

Are we sure that LJ will be out for the Raider game?

I also have to think that Priest is just now starting to get into game shape, and should still have fresh legs. If LJ continues to miss time, I think Priest's numbers should improve.

This is Rotoworld's update on LJ:FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports Larry Johnson will undergo an MRI on his cracked foot Monday to find out whether he'll need surgery.

(Updated 11/18/2007)

Impact

Glazer explains that until late this week, the Chiefs weren't able to get a good read on L.J.'s injury because the foot was too swollen. The team did know he had a crack in the foot, but weren't sure of the severity. Glazer adds that those within the Chiefs' organization aren't overly optimistic about Johnson playing again this year. He'll likely go on I.R. if he needs surgery.

Reading this makes me think Priest will be playing.

Priest is still exceeding my expectations. There were a couple times when he tried to beat a defender to the sideline and got caught behind the line of scrimmage, but he did just fine when he stuck to the north/south stuff.

Paid very close attention to Priest yesterday. I think that he ran very well, showed some good patience and solid vision. He seemed to find the holes very well, but wasn't quite able to get past the first wave. His skills are still there, but they have been diminished.

One thing I do like about him, is that Herm has shown the tendacy to feed him the ball to control the tempo of the game. I like his matchup next week and he will be getting the starting nod. I see Holmes getting 20+ carries next week for 80 yards and a 50/50 chance at a TD. My RBs are killing me so I will be happy with that production.

Tommy and the above are correct; Priest has not looked great, but he has looked surprisingly crisp. Tommy pointed out Priest getting caught when hopping outside and possibly in his hey day that wouldn't have happened, but priest looked plenty effective and if the OL was helping him people would be talking about him a lot more.

If the o-line could not help LJ, they won`t be helping Priest anytime soon.
