Prince Fielder watch..where does he go now? (1 Viewer)

It's definitely a great signing for them for the next few years. He'll mash. But anytime you sign a guy for upwards of a decade, it's going to be questioned. Especially when it's a GIGANTIC FAT GUY who can't play defense, or move. There's obviously a huge downside potential to the back end of this contract.
Tell me the % of concern vs the % of sheer joy you'd be feeling right now if the Rays had just made him their 1B instead of Pena?
My joy would far outweigh my concern if he signed with the Cubs......at least for the right now.

I'd be upset, because that would kill the already slim chances of keeping the far-better Longoria after 2016. Btw, I don't dislike the signing for the Tigers, at all...for the next 3-4 years.

I trust you're not serious. With that pitching staff, plus Jennings, Zo, Longo, Prince, and yes even BJ, they could win 3 World Series before 2016. Apparently that would mean less to you than resigning Evan after that. :lmao:

Yea, because winning best of 7 series in October are that easy to do.

It would be a helluva lot easier with Prince in the TB lineup, don't you think?Evan is gone after his contract is up no matter what. I've been to the Trop....zero fan support in St Pete. He can't wait to get out of there.

Brilliant logic you got there, considering the guy signed a 9-year contract to play here.

Ha. I know my logic is more sound than whoever told Evan that was a good contract. If Longoria still has the same agent who negotiated that contract for him, he's a complete idiot. He knows what's up in TB. After seeing the lack of fan support in 2008 and 2010 I'm pretty sure he'll move on to a town who actually loves and supports their baseball team. Hey, maybe he can become a Tiger!

He does have the same agent, and he recently told reporters he'd love to sign another extension here. Glad you got it all figured out. :thumbup:Having a discussion on Rays fan issues is one of the dumbest things a human being could do here, so I'll pass if it's all the same.

The Longoria deal is very team favorable now but you have to remember it was signed the week after he was called up to the bigs. Longoria could have turned out to be Brandon Wood or Fernando Martinez

Do the Tigers have a shot here? It would be kinda cool if they got him saying that his ol' man played for the kitties.
We need another 1B-DH type of player.
I've heard some comments from Prince regarding Cecil. I don't think he wants anything to do with following in dear ol Dad's footsteps.
Right on point here. :bag:Of course, Cecil did an interview pretty quickly regarding his son signing. He said something like, "I hope this is the last interview I have to do about this." I thought that was a class move. Let Prince have the spotlight.

Regarding the Longoria conversation above:

It's really just smart business from the front office. If they believe in the player they make them much richer than they have to, much earlier in their careers. It's a friendly deal for both sides.

It's the same thing they just did with Matt Moore. Lock them up before they hit arbitration and before you have to pay mega $$.

As far as the Tigers signing Prince:

It should be pretty easy to leg out bunt base hits against their corner infielders.

Does Evan know that he can just fire his agent and read this board for his future financial and professional needs?

Someone please send him a text/tweet/poke ASAP!!!!

Actually, his agent warned him before signing the contract that if he turned into the player they expected him to be, he'd be ripped for signing a stupid contract. Longoria's response was more or less that he was willing to take less long-term money to get that security that the contract would provide. Nothing wrong with either Longoria's agent or his reasoning.

You could stand to take it down a few notches. There's no reason to get defensive...it's not personal. I'm a huge TB fan, and all I was initially getting into was how fantastic Prince would be in the Rays order if TB had shocked everyone instead of Detroit. I wasn't considering what the chances of Longoria not re-signing in 2017 would be. 2017 is a lifetime away in baseball. I believe Evan signed a bad contract. Sure, he signed early for security, but it was for too long imo. Great move for TB but not the best for Longoria to max out his earning potential.

Little bit of Monday Morning quarterbacking here. Sometimes these early extensions work out better for the club, sometimes they work out better for the player. People remember the ones that work out better for the club and forget the ones that work out better for the player. For every Evan Longoria there's a Nick Markakis.

Agreed. It's an opinion. My thinking is that Evan was chosen 3rd overall in 2006 and had all the tools. Kudos to him for not being a prima donna but all signs pointed to him becoming a star and I believe he could have gotten more ($) for less (years).
