Tell me the % of concern vs the % of sheer joy you'd be feeling right now if the Rays had just made him their 1B instead of Pena?

My joy would far outweigh my concern if he signed with the Cubs......at least for the right now.

The Longoria deal is very team favorable now but you have to remember it was signed the week after he was called up to the bigs. Longoria could have turned out to be Brandon Wood or Fernando Martinez

Right on point here. Of course, Cecil did an interview pretty quickly regarding his son signing. He said something like, "I hope this is the last interview I have to do about this." I thought that was a class move. Let Prince have the spotlight.

Regarding the Longoria conversation above:

It's really just smart business from the front office. If they believe in the player they make them much richer than they have to, much earlier in their careers. It's a friendly deal for both sides.

It's the same thing they just did with Matt Moore. Lock them up before they hit arbitration and before you have to pay mega $$.

As far as the Tigers signing Prince:

It should be pretty easy to leg out bunt base hits against their corner infielders.

Actually, his agent warned him before signing the contract that if he turned into the player they expected him to be, he'd be ripped for signing a stupid contract. Longoria's response was more or less that he was willing to take less long-term money to get that security that the contract would provide. Nothing wrong with either Longoria's agent or his reasoning.

Agreed. It's an opinion. My thinking is that Evan was chosen 3rd overall in 2006 and had all the tools. Kudos to him for not being a prima donna but all signs pointed to him becoming a star and I believe he could have gotten more ($) for less (years).
