Problems with a 4K TV (1 Viewer)

So I bought a LED 4K TV less than a year ago and it just stopped working recently. The remote turns it on and Smart TV flashes on the screen for a second before it goes black. I can't get cable to work at all and no button on the remote works. I can get my DVD player and KODI to come on but without sound and with color distortion. Sometimes I can get snow on the TV with sound. I called the manufacturer and they thought it was a remote issue and sent me a new one but same problems keep happening.

So the manufacturer claims I need to have the original receipt in order for a free home repair but I can't find it. No way I'm paying for a repair on a TV less than a year old so I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My original thought was to go buy the same TV at Walmart or Best Buy and put the broken TV into the new box and return it for a refund. However, I went to Walmart last night and they came out with a newer model for the same TV. Still thinking of going that route as I'm pretty the return person at Walmart doesn't care enough to really inspect the TV when I return it but wondering if there would be any ramifications once the manufacturer gets the TV back and figures out the switch I made.

Can you pull up the credit card receipt online? Copy and paste the particulars into an email and send them that. Or maybe send that to wherever you bought it from and see if they can reproduce the receipt?

You'd think the goal would be to provide proof of purchase and the date, not simply an “original receipt” loophole for the company. But I understand the bind you’re in. Hope it works out.

You can prob pull it off, but idk if it's worth it. The odds of getting caught and then having someone make a big deal are small, but in that tiny chance someone did, you'd def be arrested.

Wouldn't the place you bought it from have a record of the purchase? Can't you get a copy from them?

I'm assuming you've tried a different HDMI cable and different inputs, right?  It's possible you've just got a bad HDMI input, and just using a different one will fix it.  I have no clue how your system is set up, but that might be worth a shot.  When it goes black, do the menus work at all?

Not saying TV's don't go bad, but I've had a ton of electronics over the years, and for me, if it's not DOA out of the box, it usually works for years.

TVs now put the serial number on the box label that matches the unit inside. Your little scam won't work.
I realize this but I don't think Granny Gertrude at Walmart gives two ####s when she is handling my return. She just wants to move the line along. Now, what happens after that when someone does open up the box and takes the time to track down the serial number I don't know. Are the TV police really going to show up at my door? I would think they just say #### it.

It isn't the HDMI cables, I put my old flat screen on the mount and it works fine.

Usually they will take a credit card statement as proof, if they don't make sure you say which manufacturer they are so I can avoid them!
