Pub Sheds - hot trend in backyard entertainment (1 Viewer)

Hmm...I've been thinking about what to do with our pool area. Outdoor kitchens seem cool too.
Cost of the kitchens are really high, especially if you don't have water/gas already configured for desired location. Beauty of these, is that they're basicaly pre-fabbed and you get a blank slate inside to do whatever you want with them

Gimmick. You'll spend 10X more planning it out, building it, and acquiring stuff for it and then taking pictures of it then actually using it.

Not to mention the dark sides of ownership like bugs, pests, theft, issues with it being too hot too cold, etc.

It would be cool to know someone that had one and use his, but I wouldn't take one of these if they gave it to me for free.

maybe...all depends on how you intend to use it

We have one at our cabin. It is worth every penny.

No pics. Full size fridge, liquor cabinet and plenty of cabinet space for other items. Single door entry with a roll up window like this and a couple stools outside of it. Right beside a hot tub so we put a very small change room in it (3'x3'ish) and stock it with towels. Stereo system in it for use when on the beach/hottubbing/bonfire. Only thing it is missing is a sink. Way to difficult to get plumbing to it.

Ridiculously more convenient than running in and out of the cabin all day.

Granted I'm in Southern California but we use an outdoor kitchen daily. It's basically half a covered patio with finished walls but no windows, if that makes sense. I'm installing drop down bamboo shades and a window AC for this summer. I'm also extending the roof and love some of the ideas in the OP for the added space.

i have no issue with an outdoor kitchen if you live in the proper climate, in fact I would like to have one.

But this shed thing is an entirely different idea that I don't think would work much for most people most of the time.

As a teenager my friends and I knew every garage within a 5 block radius that had a fridge with beer in it.

A fully stocked bar in a backyard? Motherlode.

Depends on where you live, security could be a concern. Booze is one thing... start putting flat screen TV's and such in there and you could be looking at break-ins.

Looks fun though, given the right environment and social use.

I would think at a vacation home they would work great. Especially with a house with lakefront property, that didn't sit right on the water. A place to store everything, that can be locked up when you weren't there would be very handy. All you'd need to do was run electricity and cable down and you'd be set.

A good lock and maybe an alarm would be helpful, too!!

Didn't even think of thefts when i came up with all the downsides in my mind. I agree this would be high on the list... how do you secure that adequately.

No glass windows, just fold down boards that cover the window, lockable. Lockable doors, alarms. Large Dogs! ;)

Just do like my neighbor did and convert your three car garage into a full scale pub!!
1) do you live in an area with no appreciable snow/ice? because I wouldn't give up my garage access for anything short of a garage turned into strip club where chicks just liked to come over and "work out" for me

2) How does this work out for him... just dispensing free booze to neighbors for fun?

Maybe I just don't know what it likes to live in an area where I like my neighbors and socialize in a neighborhood setting. I have nothing to do with the people around me, nor do I really want to.

an amongst my friends.. maybe i'm just at a bad age where all my friends have small children, but even if I did have a kick #### one of these and a standing party every saturday night there would be crickets... it's hard enough to get people together for the 3 events I do host each year.. draft, super-bowl, kentucky derby

Kids is one of the reasons to have one. You can drink all night at it without waking them up.

I agree in town they aren't really necessary but at the lake it's perfect.

Shark move is selling or giving up your lease on your office and doing dentistry out of one of these bad boys! You'd probably retire within a year AND own the new "office" free and clear to boot. Put it down by the lake, convert it and it's a retirement cottage!

These seem to be needlessly complicated. What's the advantage over a simple back patio with outdoor TV, grill and fire pit?

Seriously considering this. I've already got a jackin' off shed but plenty of room to add a pub shed. And I'd feel like royalty if I owned separate sheds for drinking and masturbating.

I could probably fit a dental chair in one of these things.... there's some potential here

I think it comes down to space and/or cost. I met with my contractor over the weekend to look at options for covered seating outdoor. He actually suggested considering these b/c they were essentially cheaper than building out a covered patio connected to the house. Plus, there's inherent benefits of having some closed space (ex. poker table, pinball machine, etc).

I'm on the fence on these, but thing I might wait another year and take a "baby step" of covered outdoor TV and see how that works with my existing setup.

All that being said, I can completely see how these are "toys" and could potentially go unused without due consideration.

1) Hell no - Cleveland Ohio - a ton of snow and ice. He slides the tables, chairs etc to one side of the bar during the winter when he parks the cars inside.

2) Pretty much - he will have the whole neighborhood over for football games, large events, or heck, just because it is a nice wednesday night and we should drink. He and his wife could not be more generous. Usually if he has a get together people will bring side dishes, bring a bottle etc so it evens out a little, but I am sure he still ends up in the negative.

and yes, when it is nice out - they simply park in the driveway!!!

This seems like something I'd use if a buddy had it but wouldn't want to have one myself (like a boat, or a fleshlight).

Boat is a great example.. i have one, it's a pain in the #### sometimes... although I do really enjoy it overall.

But I wish I just had a good friend with one and we could take his out all the time... i'd pay for gas, tie the knots, wash the deck.. anything to get out of the full ownership
