I've basically switched my beer drinking to nearly 100% NA beer at this point. Mostly the Athletic Brewery, I signed up for their online club, and order it online. They are constantly coming out with new brews and if you gave me a blind test, there's no way I could tell it wasn't regular full-alchohol beer. A complete no brainer. And it's not even really any more expensive than craft beers in a grocery stores these days ($10.99 per 6-pack).
I've been - at the doctor's orders - off booze for the past 6 weeks or so. Athletic makes some great NA beers. Definitely the best I've had.

I do miss getting a "buzz" off the stuff, though.

That said, I had a few NA brews last night and a couple the night before while at a conference and I swear just being in a social situation with others drinking gave me a little bit of a buzz. Maybe my mind just got tricked a little bit.

Huge Ahtletic fan, the Sierra Nevada offerings may even be better.

Which Sierra NA would you recommend? I love Sierra Pale, and Hazy lil thing

Following - as I'm off the sauce for another 2.5 weeks or maybe forever depending on results of an upcoming blood test.

I love their Hazy too.

I really like both IPAs and the Brewveza (no idea what that is). I could pass on the Golden. 12 pack is $18 here every 3-4 weeks.

I'm still (basically) off booze. Had my last "real" drink on February 1st! My pancreatic enzymes are still technically high so my doc says lay off for at least another month. He did say that I can have "a few" here and there but can't go balls-out

I am going to dip my toes back into the waters this weekend as I am going to Denver to hang out with some buddies before a conference out there. Fingers crossed.

How can this be correct? It's not like you cross a border and things all of a sudden shift dramatically like that. This appears broadly correlated with income. Taking out wisconsin

I've taken a few complete weeks off here and there, but I still don't notice any major differences in sleep or health really Probably still on an overall downtrend. A max out night for me used to be a cocktail and a split of a bottle of wine probably 60/40 for me over 4 hours. Now it's a cocktail and a glass over the same duration. Certainly cheaper.

Just got my Oura ring! Thanks Joe!

My plan is to get as drunk as hell over the next week to set a baseline, then go on the wagon and watch my numbers improve.

Thinking about getting this ring. Didn't see a topic on it so posting here.

@Joe Bryant

I have the Apple Watch and I like it but mostly for the reasons the info the ring can also provide. And I hate having to switch watches all the time. I have a 30 year old watch that I'll always wear.

Haven’t had a drink in 3.5 years and I am down almost a whole pound.
About the same for me. :hifive: From 1994 to 2021 i more than made up for my retirement. Those were fun years, atleast the ones I remember, but i never learned to just have a few and it was always one drink would lead to 13. Makes for awkward social situations at times not drinking, but otherwise i don't miss it.

Still been focused on not having that one last drink when I do have a few drinks. And actually have had a few instances to not have any drinks on an occasion where I might have one or two. (e.g. this past Sunday...nothing going on besides yard work and watching the tournament. Normally would have had a few beers, but decided to abstain.)

A good buddy of mine and I are doing a kinda-sorta weight loss challenge where we are also keeping each other accountable for how much booze we're ingesting on a weekly basis. He's in Denver and every time he comes out to visit his Dad (which is a lot, since he isn't employed right now and his Dad's 95 and in and out of the hospital) we go out quite a bit and drink plenty of beer. We are also going to Boise with a mutual buddy at the end of July, so we are trying to lose some lbs and not drink as much until then.

I actually had a grand total of ZERO drinks this past week/weekend. Prior weeks were 10+ each, but I had no reason to drink anything (going out with friends, etc.) and instead just had some THC gummies/pen and on Saturday had 3 NA beers while watching sports. I think that practice may be the norm moving forward... I mean, hell, I used to have 5-6 cocktails (vodka w/ lemonade) on a Saturday afternoon/evening with regularity even if it was just hanging out at the house. Seems unnecessary. Don't get me wrong, I love going to breweries and sampling IPAs (hazies are my jam) but if I'm just hanging out at my house, I think I'll just skip the booze. Maybe I'll shed some weight and find that my body is happier.

without pushing alcohol on you, vodka soda or gin and tonic?

Both will undoubtedly occur. Your future pancreas, especially.

I hardly drink at all anymore, with the exception of an occasional beer. This is mainly due to medications I take. Plus, my body doesn’t process alcohol like it once could. Heavy consumption of alcohol eventually catches up to people physically if you’re lucky enough not to have let it ruin your life in other ways. Not meaning to preach, but if you added up all the dumb stuff you have done in your life, how many times did it involve drinking? Serious question.

My FIL used to say, “you better quit it, before it quits you”. He said it about a lot of “dumb” things we do. And he was right.

Some of us are quite adept at sober stupidity.

I could write a novel about the dumb **** alcohol has caused me to do, some harmless and embarrassing, others a little more self and relationship destructive. Pretty level-headed and even keeled guy sober, but get 1 or 2 (which usually turned into 6-8x that) drinks in me and a switch flips. Haven't touched a drink since November 9, 2021 and don't miss it at all.

This comes to mind. "Looking good Barry"

I'm not a fan of gin, at all... definitely vodka. But I'd go with lemonade or at minimum, 7up.

Just thinking about cutting calories/sugar

Yeah, when/if I have vodka & lemonade at home it's always with zero-calorie/sugar Crystal Light lemonade. :)

The trouble with mixing clear booze like vodka or gin with fruit and / or juices, is that by the time it creeps up on you it’s too late because it tastes so darn good. See backyard barbecues.

Oh for sure, this is what got me in trouble in the "Covid years" and even a year or two beyond that. I've all but stopped the usual activity and have instead made it a very "once in awhile" type of thing.

As a daily drinker Ive found THC seltzers - no alcohol, very low calories, decent buzz and no hangover.
So you can put back 8-9 of these in an evening with friends or are they one and done?
That's been my hangup with these THC seltzers. The ones I see advertised are 10mg, which means I could probably only drink 3 MAYBE 4 at most. I need to do some more research and see if there are 5mg versions so I can have 6-7 of them if I am staying away from alcohol.

Ive seen 5mg, 10, and 50. Higher the THC the pricier it gets.

How many you can throw back depends on tolerance - the 5mg are very good but mini buzz - the 10mg def hit a bit more. I sleep like a rock with no hangover and way less calorie/alcohol intake

I could do about 40mg total if I'm hanging out at home or out and about for 4-5 hours. So if I go with the 10mg versions, I would only drink about 1 an hour, and I usually am on a drink every half hour type of pace if it's just a beer or mixed drink. I guess it'll just take some getting use to... or finding 5mg versions that I like the taste of.

@Ilov80s posted about a brand that offers 2.5mg in the smoking thread. I just got a box delivered but haven't tried it yet. Might be what some are looking for.

Here's the link
I've heard of those. I need to investigate further. Could be a game changer!

I mean... I love going out to breweries with friends, but could easily see myself cutting out all non-brewery alcohol.

Thanks for posting this.

With the thc seltzers, sometimes I’ll even mix them with another thc free na seltzer just stretch it out a bit if it’s going to be an event where people are having several drinks or drinking over a long period of time.
or maybe with just a cbd only soda

Had a chance to try these out. This is exactly what we were looking for. Thanks again for posting about these
couldnt be happier with these THC seltzers. Cut my drinking alcohol in half - dropped a few pounds and feel much better in the am. Trying to cut the alcohol side down even more - only downside is the seltzers arent cheap. The Cantrip website sells in 12 and 24 packs and ships to you directly. Definitely cheaper price than the store depending on shipping - and even more of a discount if you commit to a delivery subscription every month.

Had a physical 2 months ago, Dr told me I need to quit drinking or I may suffer liver disease down the road.. Started off slow just having 1 of 2 a day or 2 weeks. The went cold turkey. Been sober now for 16 days.. I know if's early but went to the Doctor yesterday & all of my tests are going in the right direction

Wish me luck

Wishing you the best Kuz. Ping me anytime. Be well.

I've recently been trying to find a decent low carb beer...I've tried 6 or 7 different ones, from Dogfish Head to Heineken. Theyre alll around 4% abv and they're all terrible. I drink 6 or 7 and just feel full with no buzz. I might as well drink my regular go to beers, as I drink fewer and actually get a buzz.

Can't stand any liquor of any kind, so it's beer or nothing for me.
