Your favorite MLB team... NOT your fantasy team.

As great as Albert is, a catcher who can hit like Mauer is ridiculously valuable.

I'd take Mauer because he's younger. But really, who cares? I'd learn how to do a backflip if Oakland could land either guy.

Beane would just trade one of them for a bunch of crappy double-A prospects and Matt Murton anyways.

If you're going to reference a bad Beane trade, the Cubs/Harden deal isn't the one you should go with. As of now, it looks like Oakland got the better end of that deal.

Can you imagine how stinkin successful Beane would be with a big league budget? He does an awful lot with an awful little.
Seems like the track record the past few years is pretty suspect.

Larry Beinfest probably has the best track record for a small market team at this point. And I'd take Pujols in a heartbeat. Mauer's power has only shown up for the past few weeks so it could very well not be sustainable. Meanwhile, Pujols is the best hitter on the planet. He may not play a premium defensive position, but he does play defense and run the bases well. Plus, I have doubts about how long Mauer will continue to play behind the plate.

This. You are talking a once in a generation hitter vs a very good player who probably will be moved from catcher in the next 3 or 4 years and then hit for slightly above average power at 3B or below average at 1B. Mauer is a great OBP, AVG, and decent RBI guy. Also he might be 3 years younger than Pujols but that doesn't mean anything if you consider all the miles on those knees as a catcher. Pujols>>>>Mauer and I think a lot of Mauer.

Even if you disregard the wear and tear and likely positional change for Mauer, you don't go scarcity position over someone who is now in the arguement as best right handed hitter of all time.I mean, do you take Piazza over Babe Ruth because he was a great hitting catcher (even if he had an arm for arguements sake - because the answer is still no)
